Guppy
I tried to play the demo beta build of F3 that Interplay made. I can see what they're getting at and it looks good. But it's super buggy and crashed rather suddenly.
Warmaker
Fallout 3, eh? We'll see how this turns out, since the original Fallout was really great. I also look forward to going back to my Fallout playstyle. Be polite, goody-two-shoes, and diplomatic until my character has been insulted or wronged. When that happens, the big guns come out. My sidekick dog also (remember Dogmeat?). Roam the wastelands as a gunslinger, righting wrongs, and kicking alot of a** along the way It would also be awesome to see this description again: "Raider was critically hit in the eyes for 143 point of damage and dies instantly, unfortunatly he doesn't have time to enjoy the air rushing towards his brain." Hooray for the "Bloodymess" Perk! Edited May 4, 2007 by Warmaker
akt_m
Let's just hope that bethesta doesn't make a FPS, it must be turn-based. Fallout 1 & 2 were some of the few games that i actually played more than once. I bought Fallout 1 by accident, by looking at the pictures over the box i thought it was like UFO defense... Lol. Mr March
Speaking of Bloody Mess, how about the development history of the third Fallout game. I'm not really excited about the teaser shot. I won't be convinced it'll see release until it's actually on a shelf somewhere.
Warmaker
Yeah, I remember when Fallout Tactics came out, a bunch of us were saying, "Why this? Where's Fallout 3?"

wolfx
I actually thought tactics was kinda good too. Sure I hoped for Fallout 3 but tactics was close enough to the original and it progressed the story somewhat.
Mr March
Tactics was good for an action game. But Fallout put the "R" back in computer RPG. The exclusion was to it's detriment IMO.
Warmaker
Yeah, I'll wholeheartedly agree that Fallout 1 and 2 put Rated "R" in RPG Groin shots. Headshots. Targets getting shot apart from a successful burst of fire, and the wonderful wet sound. "Melting" Prostitutes that "aggro" Become a Porn Star! The descriptive text during combat was half the fun I still recall finding a Star Trek spoof in the original, where in the middle of the wastes I found a crashed shuttle, complete with the bones and torn uniforms of Red Shirts strewn about. I wonder how a movie version of Fallout would come out. Mel Gibson's Road Warrior is the next closest thing in existence, but there's no mutants, whores, and not too much gore. Warmaker
I didn't see that flick. Did it have Mutants, Whores, and lots of gore? Seriously, am I the only one that thinks that a modern "Fallout" type of movie would be awesome? It'd also be perfectly fine for Mel Gibson to have some cameos somewhere! Batou
Let's just hope that bethesta doesn't make a FPS, it must be turn-based. They've confirmed it's going to be using a tweaked version of the GameBryo (i.e., Oblivion) engine. No idea whether they could adapt it to isometric turn-based play like the first two, but I kind of think it's unlikely, esp since Interplay sold the rights to Bethesda. I'm guessing it's "Oblivion with Mutants", which could be fun in it's own right, but not really "Fallout". We'll see.

Mr March
Yeah, I'll wholeheartedly agree that Fallout 1 and 2 put Rated "R" in RPG LOL, yeah that too! I don't know about a Fallout movie. Fallout's strength is interactive entertainment. Don't get me wrong, the game is incredible and about as immersive as it gets, but the story is somewhat cliched and silly. The story makes for the best gameplay, but not really a stand alone narrative. I mean, the "Master" leading a Super Mutant army to take over the world...yeah, that's been done too much in various formulas. Having said that, I do believe Fallout possesses several story elements that would make an incredibly violent and narratively fresh story for a film script. The whole concept of the mutant sterility and the Master as a sympathetic character could be made into a very dramatically compelling story, especially with a properly motivated and complex main character. Needless to say, the atmosphere of Fallout would have to be translated well, otherwise it wouldn't work. And it sure would be nice to see raditation handled correctly in a sci-fi film. The Postman was downright awful. We will never associate that film with anything for the sake of our health Edited May 9, 2007 by Mr March

I fear the lack of an isometric turn-based system as well, so I'm going to be very skeptical. At least the GameBryo engine could be used to vividly create a world like Fallout. JsARCLIGHT
You know, from the sound of things it might turn out to be like S.T.A.L.K.E.R... I mean, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., if you take away the "dripping with eastern bloc slavic" feel of the game was pretty much "Poor man's Oblivion with guns in a post-apocalyptic future wasteland with mutants". Mr March
Wow, just saw this on YouTube. It's footage of the original Fallout 3 made by Interplay, before being cancelled of course. Lament the Fallout sequel that could have been... This looked brilliant. What a shame.

Akilae
Just hopped over from NMA, where they posted developer notes along with the Van Buren demo. The engine was orignally developed to be real time, and as of the tech demo deadline they didn't have time to fully convert it over to turn based. The player would have been able to choose between real time/turn based. As for the splat... well... such is what we have sacrificed for 3D. Apparently Van Buren was never meant to have the same over-the-top gore than Fallout 1 & 2 had...
Mr March
I had 2 gripes with that video. Real-Time No Gore or "Splat-Splat" I doubt very much that Van Buren would have been some rated G game. If the engine was taken to completion I'm sure there would have been more than enough blood and gore, though maybe the lack of polygons meant it wouldn't look as graphic as the high resolution 2D sprites in Fallout 1 & 2. Apparently Van Buren was never meant to have the same over-the-top gore than Fallout 1 & 2 had... Over-the-top gore? What's supposed to happen when you shoot someone with a minigun? They disappear and turn into a floating gold coin? Edited May 12, 2007 by Mr March

Veritas
The teaser is out! "War....war never changes. " http://fallout.bethsoft.com/ w00ts! Oh man was i hyped when at the end of the trailer the Fallout fades to Fall... completely unrealistic as it seemed i fooled myself into thinking it was going to be released this year and in a few months even! But then the 2008 tagline had to ruin it all. Cruel World! Oh well i guess a year and change is minor compared to never. GobotFool
The teaser is out! "War....war never changes. " http://fallout.bethsoft.com/ w00ts! That w00ts, sounds encouraging. Though, I gotta admit, one bonus about using oblivions engine might be the herb mixing carries over. Imagine, running around, finding chemicals, just to make the perfect stim. I think just the idea that they might give you a meth lab to do that in would be hilarious. Edited June 6, 2007 by GobotFool

Batou
A ton of new screenshots and such are out in the new Game Informer that I saw at my brother's place yesterday. I'm starting to have more and more confidence that Bethesda is going to do this justice ... it's not like the old isometric games, but if you read the article it's definitely not "Oblivion with Guns". Found some scans here ... http://kotaku.com/gaming/fallout-3/new-fal...cans-269517.php Wow. Make that WOW.

Smiley424
Official Fallout 3 website Just decided to resurrect the thread as I just found the website is fully running. Lots of cool stuff, has that fallout feel to it. Trailer also available. Looks pretty cool. Since I'll be getting a new computer soon, I'm looking forward to this game now that I can play it. Trailer on youtube anyone else looking forward to this incarnation of fallout?
wolfx
I saw the developer's interview and it seems like now, action points system is used for "special moves" sorta thing where u play the game in real time but if you feel lazy to aim or would rather take your chances with your chances rather than aim yourself, you switch to AP mode and select your target ala Fallout 1/2 and it will show a cinematic of you gibbing the target if you hit.
