Destroid Defender take 2

HWR MKII

Recommended Posts

Its done. Weathering turned out nicely. I figured this would be more of a security unit/escort for the monster so i kept chipping down and enhanced weather streaking. More like it would be more in the rear guarding assets while the tomahawks and battroids were at the very front lines getting really roughed up.

I also took some pics of it with the rest of the Moscato destroid line.

Just out of curiosity; What colors did you use for the Defender..? is spot on for a Macross mecha...

Base coated in tamiya flat black, over shadowed with Khaki drab and then highlighted with straight Khaki. Then weathered from there.

Youll find that these are the absolute best resin kits out there. No fit issues and some of the best casting i have ever seen.

Thats a mark of aproval worth taking note of.

Seeing as how theres not that many resin kits from Macross you hav`nt done.

Actually theres alot of macross resin I havent done yet. All of the yellow sub stuff, the zentradi stuff and the rest of the Club M and B club stuff.

What do you know of the quaility of those brands ?

I think that in order to truly have a grasp on the concept of resin model 'quality', one must evaluate samples from existing and past manufacturers. Over the course of almost 20 years of dealing with resin, I think I can safely say that I've seen pretty much all of it.

There are some firms that put out castings that are nothing short of superb, such as those from Volks, Work Shop Cast, and Le Mans Miniatures.

...And then there are 'models' (and I use the term loosely) that, quite frankly, are simply not worth attempting to build. The 1/72 Phalanx wonderfest kit comes immediately to mind. Offerings from the likes of Club M/Studio 27 were ok. The castings themselves were fine, but the craftsmanship of the sculpt didn't exactly light fires in my mind.

While the sprues on some of my parts tend to be a bit large, I think that my overall castings rate fairly well; perhaps not quite on the level of Volks/WSC, but when the molds are new, I can give them a good run for their money.

The Captain is very near the top for me. My barrels are a little "bowed" but I can easily fix that.

The absolute best cast Sci-Fi parts I ever saw are in my 1/35th Heavy Gear Kodiak by Fusion Models and my 1/35th Front Mission 2 Zenith V from Kotobukia.

Platz and the Yukikaze aircraft have superior castings in them as well.

In the Kodiak, I have trouble even finding the gates and mold parting lines.

I hope I can get that good some day.

Well the captains stuff rates high on my list. I have had a few different resin and vinyl kits over the years and most of them have been o.k except for a couple which I think were sculpted with a garden trowel and cast in a plastic bag.

When I ordered my first Capt kit I was thinking well if he`s half as good as everyone makes out I`ll only need to fill a few holes and remake a couple of parts. How Wrong could I be. The couple of bubbles could just be filled with paint and you`d never know and the only defective part wont show when its built as the defect is on the inside.

There are several so call Manufacturers who should take a look at the Captain and others like him as they care about what they make.

That said I need to get my next Destroid from him now I have been paid.
