GBU-39, the SBD--small diameter bomb. Tiny little JDAM, but supposed to have the punch of much larger weapons. It's a 250lb.

I think I've also see a similar pic except that they also squeezed in an AMRAAM in there.

I will have to find the picture, but I know had/have one that shows a Su-37 carrying 14 missiles. SO I'm assuming that the Su-35 can do the same.

As for SDB one of the reasons it has such a strong "punch" is it's accuracy, more lethality on target and less energy wasteed on surrounding structures.

A380 had its worst-case-scenario (max weight, no thrust reverse) rejected takeoff test, far less "interesting" than people were expecting. Just smoke and red-hot brakes. Nothing exploded. So they did a lot better than they did with the A340-600. Test conditions:

Initial weight: 1,487,000lbs/674,376kgs.

V1 (abort speed): 166kts/191mph/306kph.

The Airbus problems are major only on the surface. If anyone doubts that France and Germany aren't going to bail out that company, they're deluded. They can't afford to let Airbus go down, this Power8 thing, if that has to go in order to get some French and Germany politicians elected, well, hey, France is already a socialist country anyway.

Pretty far. While I have no doubt that ground based radars will eventually make stealth less of an advantage, it's going to be even longer before we see fighter radars that can draw a bead on even a F-35. So while in a decade or two we might see Flankers getting pointed to intercepts on a F-35 by ground based radars, the F-35 will have already locked those Flankers up and be preparing to let loose some AMRAAMs in their faces.

I think the issue is that Germany and/ or France would bail Airbus out. A governmental bailout solves short term problems, but the long term impact to the commercial aviation industry cannot be ignored.

Thats what I would bet on too. Which was why I asked about that comment that the F-35 isn't quite good enough to face the Flankers.

No matter how much searching online I've done about the YF-23, I can still no definite word on what's really going on with either prototype.

A number of sites say that YF-23 #1 has been at the Air Force Museum in Dayton for a while now though I have not been able to find it on any of the museum's list for what aircraft they currently have.

As for YF-23 #2, the Western Museum of Flight (http://www.wmof.com/display.htm) has it mentioned that they were expecting their aircraft back from Northrop Grumman by last summer though it appears that's not the case... whatever Northrop did with this aircraft, I hope someone at the company or in the Air Force didn't decide to take the aircraft out for some target practice. :angry:

If you look to the south and east of where the aleged YF-23 is, you will find what appears to be an F-15 and even a MiG-21 out there! There is supposedly a MiG-29 out there, too (according to someone on the Google Maps message board).

Posted this to ARC, and got several replies. Current thinking is that that is a full-scale RCS testing model of a -23, with YF-23 #2 currently being on display at Northrop's El Segundo facility.

Still don't know about #1.

Found a little recent snippet about AESA capability, specifically a Super Hornet's:

"The same report contends the radar has demonstrated a "quantum leap against significant tactical air threats," a reference to classified details about range, resolution, electronic attack options and the ability to positively identify targets - by fusing information from various sensors - at long range.

Gaddis won't discuss radar ranges. However, a long-time Pentagon radar specialist says the radar resolution is good enough to detect small targets, such as stealthy, subsonic cruise missiles, at ranges great enough to conduct effective attacks against them."

Has the Shornet gone up in exercises against the Raptor? Did they still get arse-kicked by opponents they never saw?

And the paint research looks to be far more accurate and plane-specific than any others I've seen. Haven't ordered any yet, but plan to. They sell small versions for only $5 each, so you could get every squadron you like.

Ugh. Dang! I was hoping they would stop by Fargo. What? The Blue Angels come here! :p

They aren't even going to Minot? That sucks. Minot has had some pretty good airshows in the past (on the base, that is). B-2 flyover in 99-00, can't remember the exact date. It was neat considering I was in the 6th grade. ;)

Flying of course, but not a demo. (The only "exclusive" move to the F-22 is named the "Raptor Roll" currently--think kulbit, but roll instead of pitch--basically a very tight barrel roll, but while moving upwards with almost no airspeed)

Nied you're in California not Maryland so how is that great for you?

Looks like I'll have to go to Oshkosh or Chicago if I want to see a Raptor. It wasn't until 2005 that the Super Hornet appeared at Offutt's show. I wonder how much longer before we get to see the Raptor here?

Looks like I'll have to go to Oshkosh or Chicago if I want to see a Raptor. It wasn't until 2005 that the Super Hornet appeared at Offutt's show. I wonder how much longer before we get to see the Raptor here?

My parents are in Maryland, and I already have trip planned there during the airshow. What's really fun is I shouldn't have too much trouble getting out to Sacramento two weeks later.
