MACROSS TOYS IN HONG KONG

Graham's Suggestions:

Hong Kong Shops

1. Sino Centre which is at 582-592 Nathan Road, Mong Kok. This centre is a great place for Japanese toys, magazines, CD's and bootleg anime DVDs/VCDs. There are several toy shops that specialise in new Japanese toys on both the ground floor and the basement level including a branch of Animate. The 1st to 4th floors mostly sell VCDs/DVDs. There is also a good toy shop called Kanto Hobby on the 12th floor, but the only way to access this is by the elevator. To get to Sino Centre, take the MTR (subway) to Mong Kok station and take exit 'E' which puts you about two minutes walk away along Nathan Road.

2. Just one or two shops to the left of Sino Centre is another mall called Tendy Plaza. this has a good Japanese magazine shop and one toy shop in the basement that sells old and new toys There are usually some old valk toys there. There are also a couple of toy shops selling Japanese toys on (I think) the 4th floor.

3. Just around the corner from Sino Centre and Trendy Plaza is another must-visit mall called CTMA centre. this is situated near the end of Sai Yeung Choi Street South. make sure to visit all the upper floors as well as the basement as there are about six or more shops selling Japanese toys including the insane Superman Toys and Ant Shop which usually has a good selection of old valk toys.

4. There is also another branch of Animate (selling toys/ books/magazines/some garage kits) on Nelson street in Mong Kok. Sorry, I can't remember the shop number, but Nelson street is not that long anyway. Nearby to that Branch of Animate there is also a few grage kit shops and a toy and model shop called RX-78 or something like that.

5. Your next stop should be the Cauesway Bay district of HK Island. Take the MTR (subway) to Causeway Bay station to get there. First stop should be the Causeway Bay Centre located on Sugar Street. Again make sure to check out all the floors especially the basement as there are lots of cool toy and model shops to be found. While in Causeway Bay also make sure to vist the Sogo Department Store.

There are a few more places in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai, not to mention Monk Kwok. However Macross toys are getting hardrer and harder to find nowadays!

Are you planning a visit to Hong Kong? If so I could show you around, all you have to do is buy me a beer :p

For me the best place to buy toys in HK is Richmond Shopping Centre. It is in the corner of Argyle and Say Yee street in Mong kok. It has a big 111 number in front, you can't miss it.

There are plenty of toy shops to look around with good prices. Most of them open in the afternoon and stay until 11pm. Don't forget to go to the basement of the building too and always ask for discount. For model kits you should go the the street behind the Standford hotel. The whole street is filled with model kits shops and there is a passage with shops showing beautiful built model kits

The CMTA is also a must. Exit on E2. This is the map found on the back of the Superman Toys business card:

Sup fellow canto! I used to live in HK, up until I was 4. That was 21 years ago...hahahahahahaha. Most of my family from my mom's side is in HK, and it's SOOOO frustrating cause they can't help me get Macross stuff. Sigh...

Anyhow if someone can find me a Macross Zero F-14, I will buy them beer until they drink themselves into a drunken state. :D

Hi all,

I'm in Hong Kong now and living in the Kowloon Tong area. I have tried looking for some Macross toys in the Mong Kok area but unsuccessful, except that place right across UML, they still have 2 1/48. I forgot the name of the shop but if you find CTMA centre or UML, you should have no problem locating it. They are also selling the MMM Strike Gundam for $230 hkd, that is cheap~ If you go to Mong Kok and just ask anyone, they would direct you to any location...ppl r generally nice in HK. My gf lives in the Cheung Sha Wan area and she brought me to some lousy mall and I was a kid in a candy store or toy store in this respect...and bought a Metal Grade Gundam, which was probably the last one available in HK. I'll try my best to find the location and name of that place for you...but no gurrantee because I have to go there in person. I wanted to give you this link http://toyshunter.uhome.net/toyshop-hongkong.htm but its dead now. Sorry wasn't much help to u.

It's doubtful that you'll find any pre-built for sale.... not saying they don't exist, but they're expensive enough unbuilt, I wouldn't want to have to pay for supplies and labor on top of that, it would be pretty pricy!

The "G-System" shop in Monk Kwok has the SDF-1 Attacker (original kit) pre-painted for sale at HK$3500 (roughly US$450). It is professionally done by a guy who won like a second prize in a model competition in Japan for a Gundam model. His shop is like 10sec walk from this G-System!

There is also another shop in Monk Kwok with a pre painted SDF-1 Attacker, not sure though if it is for sale.

Andy :)

Hi andy,

Thanks for the info, do you have the address or general location of this G-system shop?

And also, did you see the ship mode for sales elsewhere as well?

As in prepainted kits, only seen the SDF-1 Attacker so far, never seen the SDF-1 Cruiser as it is not that popular over here.

I have also been looking for a recast SDF-1 Attacker again, no luck as the interest in older kits fade away quickly over here in Hong Kong as there are just too many new kits coming out every week!

The shops with the SDF-1 Attackers are also in Monk Kwok and a few minutes walk away from that "Superman Toys" on the map, which Takatoys gave you. Alternatively, let me know when you are in town and I am mor ethan happy to show you around Monk Kwok!

two weeks ago I was in HK in less than 24 hours. *sniff*

stayed at the Regal Hotel beside the airport and went to Cathay city for a job related appointment.

Whaa. I wish I could've stayed a day more to see downtown. :(

I was in HK in the Mongkok area for about 2 days ago...

Been to those places mentioned, and it seems Macross is really pretty dead...Just found Kanto Hobbies had a 1/48 Millia VF, and the Rau of both Max and Millia. That was about it.

Macross is really hard to come by it seems.

Macross is not dead in HK. Its just sold out! :D

Seriously hard to find 1/48s now...

I know of the two Storm Attackers. One is for sale (New G shop) but the other is not. I heard the molds have deteriorated already so a new batch is unlikely. Its just rumors though.
