The "remake" is from last year, 2004. It's not really a remake in the traditional sense, though. Unlike the previous two Tetsujin tv series, this one apparently follows the original manga story. As for Mitsuteru Yokoyama's influence on anime, it's pretty apparent. He basically created the giant robot genre of anime with works such as Tetsujin 28 and Giant Robo. Young boy inheriting his father's giant robot? That's a Mitsuteru Yokoyama plot. Another tidbit for you, the new Tetsujin 28 tv series, and the recent (mid-90's) Giant Robo OVA shared the same director. Yasuhiro Imagawa originally approached Yokoyama with the intent of doing a Tetsujin 28 OVA in the 90's. Yokoyama didn't want to just hand over his favoured creation, though, and so he gave him Giant Robo to see what he would do. Apparently he was pleased enough to have him do the Tetsujin tv series. As for the movie...umm...well...I didn't miss it at Otakon. Unfortunately it wasn't....good. Instead it was pretty terrible. So...yeah.

I simply cannot see how anyone could argue most of their "worst actor" nominations. Jacky Chan? William Shatner? I'm not going to say they're the best actors around or anything, but look at it this way, ever seen the movie Incubus? Shatner was by far the best actor in that movie. I don't know about the rest of you, but when confronted with truly terrible acting, I tend to either wretch or actively mock it, or both, while watching it, and then forget about it later as it's not really worth remembering. Really, probably one of the most truthful critisisms you can make of most famous actors is that they tend to only play a single "character" across every role they get picked up for. Jacky Chan is almost always Jacky Chan. Jack Nicholson always plays Jack. Jeff Goldblum always plays Jeff Goldblum. Etcetera, etcetera. You may like the character they play, or you may not, but by and large most famous actors can at least do that well enough to put them head and shoulders among the majority of actors out there who can't put on a believable performance for a beer commercial.

Um...I'd reccomend reading more of the thread before ressurecting it without anything new. A big part of why this thread is 55 pages is because things like this seem to get brought up again and again.

Agreed, pretty much word for word on the CG. I don't mind the style change on the characters, though. Amano is Amano, and they're not going to top that without bringing Amano on board. It's probably better that they go with their own thing rather than try to imitate a class act like Amano.

Tetris. "The new shape of fear!" Seriously though, I'm of the opinion that just about any videogame based movie could be done well, it's just that they give them to crappy writers and directors and don't even try to make something that's not just going to wind up in the bargain bins shortly after a stunted theatre run.

Star Wars Galaxies Total Revamp -- "Twitch Combat"
Radd replied to Hurin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If it's done well, this could be interesting. I'll be looking fortward to hearing more, as the game right now doesn't really interest me. -
But, you also have to consider, Project A-ko is pretty solid for its time. Not all 80's anime looked this good. Certainly not even all of the A-ko titles were as well illustrated or animated as the first. Dragonball, SDF Macross (with its superbly animated 'Animefriend' episodes), Voltron, and many other less than stellar examples of animation were released in the 80's. On the newer side we have stuff like Gao Gai Gar Final, Macross Zero, GitS: Innocence, etcetera.

Just a thought. Does WalMart really advertise that they do this editing? I mean, sure, there are those of us who pay attention to such things, and so can make an informed decision as to whether or not we'll shop there. However, the vast majority of people don't tend to pay attention to stuff like this, so if they walk into a store and go to pick up their favourite recording artist's latest album, unless there's a 'WalMart Family Friendly Edition!' sticker plastered right on front, they're being misled. Of course, if a person is upset by this practice, don't they have a right to dislike the cause of their frustration, and to inform others? I agree with the comment on the vegetarians, but I hardly see how it relates. This would be more like Burger King having a "Vegetarian Salad" with meat hidden inside of it. As for your other points, I agree and disagree with some of what you say. However, again, this is hardly the place for a discussion about Walmart's business practices and I've indulged this probably too much already. Back on the Ep3 topic, I was at Walmart this morning (tee-hee) and noticed that the bonus DVD seems to only be packaged with the Full Screen version of the movie. -
Picked it up and watched it today. The fiancee, who'd never even heard of it, loved it. However, despite being pristine (scratch and dust free) the DVD skipped...a lot. It really hampered our enjoyment of this great movie. Very shoddily made disc. It's a shame. They also had 'Love and Robots' for the same price. Grabbed that too, but haven't watched it.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

The beginnings of the Rebel Alliance are the scenes I really, really wanted to see put back in the movie where they belong. No reason not to for a DVD release. -
They open in five or six hours. I'm totally there.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

I don't know. I rather like the idea of the prequel trilogy ending with Anakin being enclosed in the suit. Still, I do agree that more developement could have been done leading to that point. As said, Episode I, Anakin's childhood, could have been condensed into a fairly short amount of screen time. Either handled as the very beginning of Episode I, before moving to Anakin's teenage years, or through flashbacks in that first movie. I'd go on, but really, is it worth agonizing over such fan conjecture? -
I might wind up checking out City of Villains. City of Heroes is probably the most interesting MMO I've seen, and seems to offer a decent amount for the price. Until now, though, my main problem has been that all my best ideas are villains, or heroes with traditionally villain powers (such as an army of faceless minions). One of my ideas is a Lawyer for the Tepes, Bathory,de Rais, & Associates law firm. On the other hand, I'd love it if I could set up a CoV branch of the Bavarian Army of Destruction.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Can we keep the flimsy political rhetoric out of the Star Wars thread? There's barely enough room for the fanboy arguments as it is. -
My favourite scene from all of Macross II is most certainly the scene where Sentao Kaishi plays. Bridge Bunny, "Two Macross Cannons are in and three more are in route. Shall we wait?" The Captain, setting down his tea and allowing himself a knowing smile, "Two will be more than enough." I'm not a fan of the mecha designs in Macross II, or much of the OVA in general, however the Macross Cannons are definitely something I wouldn't mind seeing brought into the canon universe.

Certainly. I still don't see your point. You're comparing a product the future of wich is questionable, to products that were or are on their way to market.
-
Certainly. So does lots of vaporware.
-
That was posted in this thread days ago so...um..yeah. We've seen it.
-
Not to mention the difference between this keyboard and the examples you gave is the difference between products well on their way to market, from well established companies, versus vaporware that some Russian company no one on these boards has probably ever heard of.

Lucy the Daughter of the Devil [Adult Swim]
Radd replied to al0324's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It reminded me of a twisted version of Dr. Katz, so I can definitely see the influence. Has an interesting visual style to it. That's really all I could tell from the clip, and I don't have cable so I won't be able to catch the pilot on tv. Well, I'll also be at work while it's playing, but yeah. -
Ah. Well, I suppose I'll see how the price compares to DS compatable WiFi cards. I don't mind downloading some drivers if it means shaving some dollars off the price, and so long as there isn't any issues with how well it works. On a side note, I picked up Metroid Prime Pinball, and I'm enjoying the hell out of this game. The rumble pack, as noted by Penny-Arcade, IGN, and others, does tend to make a small amount of noise, and while curious it hasn't bothered me at all. The split screen view of the table is kinda disconcerting when things cross between the screens, however there seeems to be a short delay, as the game counts that space as actual board space. You can even shoot creatures while they're between screens, when in the combat mini-games. I'm not entirely certain if that delay helps, or make the split screen play even more disorienting, but I'm enjoying the game none the less.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the WiFi adapter is basically a USB wireless card for your computer, so your DS can play WiFi games over your home net connection, riught? I do know that some wireless cards are compatable with the DS and if you download some homebrew drivers you can download game demos onto your DS.

The story I heard was that Yokoi wanted to make a full colour virtual home console. Something top of the line for its time. However higher ups at Nintendo told him it had to be a new portable unit, and continually cut funding to the whole project. In the end it was rushed out the door in a form nowhere near what Yokoi wanted it to be.

William Shatner is an incredibly talented man.

T.J. Hooker? Heh, actually I thought these days Shatner was typecast as himself.
