  1. I wish DC, Marvel, and all the rest would learn a thing or two from the Japanese comic book industry. The way manga are published and distributed, the way the stories are written, all that. Comic books used to be incredibly popular in America before 10 variant, foil stamped covers, having to follow a dozen different comics just to follow a single storyline, endlessly recycled stories and characters, constantly killing them off and bringing them back over and over again.
  2. I like it, still, Prime seems to be standing too still in comparison to the rest of the image. It would look even better with some straetgically placed motion blurring on Prime, to make him look a part of the action. Still, it'll never look completely right because as detailed as that toy is, it still looks like a toy. True. The cars on the photochop are highly reflective, if Brian or Rodavan were to make a CG one in place of it, it'll definitely look convincing. He's just suppose to be standing there though, he needs a more dynamic pose to be blurring... or maybe his arms and legs need to blurred. Exactly, I didn't mean blurred as himself moving forward or something, but just the motion of his arms and legs, the tilt of his head, anything to make him look like he's a part of the living world around him. He'd have to be a statue, completely stationary, to not have much blur going on in a picture like this. Even then, you'd exect a bit of a blur, just from camera jitters and imperfect focus.
  3. Faked stereo always sounds like it's being piped through a tin can. To truly improve the sound they would have needed the individual audio tracks for all of the music, the voices, the sound effects, and everything. They simply didn't have access to all of that.

  5. This idea I actually like a lot. I'd love a Macross manga I could read at work, and not following the movie or tv storylines exactly would be a huge bonus. I really, really like this idea a whol heckuva lot. Too bad it's unlikely to happen. I mean, even if someone here knew Kawamori personally, liked the idea themselves and passed it on, it's unlikely he'd have time to write such a manga, and get together with Mikimoto to draw it.
  6. For that matter, I'd like to see a similar piece using just Southern Cross, and just MOSPEADA characters, with the appropriate logos.
  7. I like that arrangement, though I gotta agree with >EXO< about Max, Millia, and Dana. Still, for a Robotech piece, it's great. Azoric did a great job piecing them together. I'd like to see a similar arrangement just using Macross characters, the Maacross Logo from their DYRL? website, and adjusting the colours. I think Yune's got some good line and shading skills, but his colours are always way, way, way, oversaturated, and he makes everything shiney. It just comes out looking horribly Photoshopped. He does everything but toss lense flares in there.
  8. Everyone has their own opinions. I personally think that Gundam Wing, Naruto, Noir, and many other shows are complete and utter crap. Yet despite weak characters, contrived plots, and gimmicky action sequences, these shows are incredibly popular. Of course, this is why it's best to state why you are suggesting a show, instead of just listing off names. It's also why it's best to list a bunch of titles you like, and why, when asking for reccomendations. That way people can tailor their lists to those shows you're most likely to appreciate.
  9. Other than Dumbledore, what other actors were replaced?
  10. Well, Blaster would get served stepping up to Soundwave. Still....uh...Blaster wasn't in the video.
  11. Download the latest copy of Flash.
  12. Dissapointing to hear, still, it sounds like it will be enjoyable, just not as much as the previous two. I loved the book (except for how she turned Snape into a gimpish idjit. wich I'm glad he was not in the following book). Still, book 4 was the high point of the series so far, I absolutely can't wait to see that one in film form.
  13. Wait, wait, Macross Saga? You mean Robotech? Um, go here: http://protoculture.lebhead.com/
  14. This actually comes up quite a bit. I imagine if you did a search, you'd probably find several very similar threads on the topic. Suffice it to say, the popular opinion seems to lean more towards, "We don't want a remade version of the original series, we'd rather have a new series altogether!" I would also argue that the voice talent in the original Macross was perfect, there would be no improvement made by changing any of the voices. Unfortunately, the voice actor of Hikaru died in a motorcycle accident. Besides, you can already find a "remade" version of the tv series in the form of 'Do You Remember Love?". Improved animation, designs, sound quality, et all. Not to mention, we get Macross Zero, some of the most impressive visuals in anime today set a year before the Zentradi show up in SDF Macross. I'd really like a new series were we get to see the VF-4 as the main variable fighter.
  15. Jazz and his evil twin Meister. Huh. I might get both. Call one Jazz and the other Meister.
  16. I'm confident that the moment a torrent is released, it will be posted all over these forums less than 5 minutes later.
  17. It's not quite Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness quality, but it's a fun ride none the less. I enjoyed it a lot in theatres, and I'll be picking it up on DVD as soon as I can spare the cash.
  18. Yes. But eventually, they would have to outsource overseas to stay competitive in the market, thereby making layoffs of their animator pool. And then the cycle starts over again. Here's what I don't get: all these major studios, including Disney, have closed their cel animation studios. Everyone's going CG. If the unemployed animators get together and create their own studio (a la Gainax and Dreamworks), they have a void in the market that they can fill. Where is the competition when everyone's CG and you are the only cel animation studio in town? Here's the piece you're missing. Those animators need money for food and a place to live. Having a studio does not automatically mean jobs come pouring in, you need money to start. Right now, no one with capitol is willing to invest in an american animation studio. Major studios still blame you, the fans, for not liking their crappy movies, instead of the fact that they've been releasing nothing but crap. Meanwhile, the majority of the public, wich has gotten fed up with the glut of crap coming from Disney, Dreamworks, and Fox, have come to believe that american studios are incapable of making quality animation. Hence the lack of funding for such an endeavour. Even most anime fans scoff at the idea of an american studio producing anything worthwhile. I do imagine, in time, it may be possible for a studio or two to form, and create material catering to the anime fandom. I bet it will happen eventually. I doubt very many could survive on that small market, though. Plus, if suits become involved, it all goes down the tubes. "No, no, make it more like DBZ, that's popular, right?" "You're still doing 2D? No, no, you have to switch to 3D, that's what's 'in' these days."
  19. Every disc except the last one comes with liner notes. That's a sign it may be legit. Also, on my copy wich I ordered directly from AnimEigo, the titles and numbers on the spine of the cases don't all match up. They generally do quality work, especially where it counts, but they're basically two guys, a monkey, and a subtitling equipment. As for the graphical glitches whenever subtitles show up, I can't say I noticed that.
  20. Legend of the Galactic Heroes is one of my alltime favourite shows. It's really great. Very heavy with the plot and characters, what action there is isn't your slam, bam mecha and short skirts type. I'd probably describe it as an intellectual's anime. About the closest anime I could compare it to is Crest of Stars. As for those re-releases, you mean of the tv series? I definitely would love to pick up the original Herlock television series. Unfortunately Geneon is apparently having poor sales with their classic titles like Lupin, so they might not be so keen on picking up another old show. Maybe AnimEigo will do the honours. As for Yamato. I keep hearing that the company that brought out the Yamato movies and the Starblazers series is in negotiations to bring out the uncut Yamato series. From what I've been told, that has been their goal from the inception of the company, but something is holding them up. Keith probably knows more about that.
  21. Has Takara been downing a few too many SAKE BOMBS lately? BT-07 = the first Binaltech I WON'T be picking up. (same for BT-05.....Dead End. I don't need no stinking Decepticon's). Look back on this thread, you may be missing something. There is definitely a new Binaltech that is a reissue of Smokescreen with modifications to make his car mode more accurate to the racer it is modeled after. I think only the hardcore Binaltech and Subaru fans will be after this one. I probably won't get it, but I think it's nifty that they make it available.
  22. Oh, Operatic, I should mention Herlock Saga (released as Harlock Saga) wich is based off of Wagner's Ring Opera. Still, no mecha action. Though it's far from my favourite Matsumoto work, it is still awesome when compared to most other anime. Speaking of wich, Keith, you keeping up with Outside Legend, The Endless Odyssey? It is quickly becoming my favourite Herlock yet!
  23. Apologies, I mean a legit Region 1 DVD.
  24. Crest of Stars is excellent, if you like epic stories with strong character developement. The action isn't the high point though, and it really doesn't have transforming mecha, or mecha at all really. I can name tons of excellent anime that don't have much in the way of mecha.
  25. I'd especially reccomend Stardust Memory War in the Pocket Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack as far as Gundam goes.
