I'm certain that at the very least some of those hatemail messages are jokes themselves, made by the guy that made the site.

Looks a bit too much like a Super Soaker in the first picture, especially with the logo stamped on there. Still, doesn't look so bad in all the subsequent pictures.

Star Wars OT on DVD - Official - Sept 21st
Radd replied to Blaine23's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm one of the few that did not mind the musical number in Jabba's palace. I think it's unneccesary, but I can live with it. However, aside from Greedo shooting first, my biggest problem with the SE versions is in Empire, when Vader is on his way to leave Cloud City. He originally said "Have my shuttle prepared for my arrival" or something like that. They change this to "Have my Super Star Destroyer prepared for my arrival" in a voice that does not at all sound like Vader. To this day I don't know if they actually got James Earl Jones to do the voice, but then screwed it up when they tried to add the Vader voice effect, or if they didn't get Jones, and got some random person to try and immitate him, failing miserably. Either way, it did not work at all, as well as being a needless edit. -
Star Wars OT on DVD - Official - Sept 21st
Radd replied to Blaine23's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, he really has been saying that since before the Special Editions were even made. I honestly think cynicism has gotten the best of most people when it comes to Star Wars. especially the marketing. I don't think Lucas is too discerning when it comes to the toys, the books, and the little specials that come out now and then, but he's been pretty consistent with his treatment of the movies. I doubt there will be an uncut, original version release of the original trilogy. I won't be surprised if there's an Special-Special-Yet-More-Special Edition released when the prequels come to DVD, but that'sanother beast entirely. If Lucas really was milking the franchise, we'd have seen an uncut version of the OT released to tape shortly after the Special Editions had all been picked up. Then we would have seen the Special Edition movies released to DVD, years ago, and now we'd be seeing this Special Special Edition that is coming to DVD, and after the prequels had been released to DVD AND a further CGIed release of the OT, then we'd finally see the original uncut OT released to DVD, and shortly after that an uncut OT release with all sorts of extras. After that, we'd see Special Editions of the prequels in which the Gugans shoot first and Darth Maul faces off against Mace Windu in a diner while Obi-Wan is in the can, realesed with an even more redone version of the OT where all the actors have been replaced with CGI models of Burt Renolds, Jackie Chan, and Tom Cruise. We'd be seeing another release of Star Wars year after year, and there would be people buying them, lining Lucas' pockets far more than we've seen. I mean, I prefere the uncut OT as much as the next guy, but hey, it is Lucas' baby. -
After the arriaval of the Alien Spaceship, the United Nations, with the help of some powerful nations, tried to bring the entire world under a single government. Not everyone thinks this is a good idea, even less so since not everyone knew about the aliens, and even fewer took the threat of invasion seriously. Heck, realisticly, it probably isn't such a good idea to put the world under a single government. As for your second question, if you don't mind spoilers head on over to the Macross Compendium and check out the Macross chronology. http://www.anime.net/macross/

That has actually been brought up. The argument now is not that these elements don't belong in Macross, but they way they're presented does not belong in Macross. Basically, if I understand correctly, that the mystical flavour given to the events in M0 just don't belong, in some people's opinions, even if it is a part of the overall plot that it is Protoculture influence and not magic. However, there are also those that are simply worried that it won't be explained in this way by the end of the series. That is also the basis of many of my own Spiritua arguments, that it's not really mystical or magical, just flavoured that way by the M7 director.

MACROSS PLUS MOVIE EDITION JAPANESE GOOD OR NOT?!
Radd replied to isamu-ad's topic in Movies and TV Series
I could make some Widescreen SDF Macross screencaps for ya! -
I thought it was nifty. I just wish I'd had warning going in. Much of the humour was lost because I was expecting an actual trailer until while downloading I saw Blaine's post. Very well done, though. Better than the real thing? Well, I dunno about that. The trailers for all of the prequels have been pretty kick-arse, and I have no doubts that the Episode III trailer will be one of the most amazing trailers of all time regardless of whether or not the actual movie is any good.

The reasons they are calling it Platinum is two fold. First, this is what I've heard: The 'Renewal' set in Japan has everything Eva. The movies, the tv series, everything in one nice huge package. I believe the Platinum version is just the tv series. This is purely conjecture on my part: They were too short sighted to consider calling it Evangelion Revival, which would have made a heckuva lot more sense to me.

MACROSS PLUS MOVIE EDITION JAPANESE GOOD OR NOT?!
Radd replied to isamu-ad's topic in Movies and TV Series
There's a reason for that, a reason why widescreen exists and why televisions are moving to a widescreen aspect. It's closer to how we naturally see. Try and put your fingers at the very edge of your vision. We actually view the world in a wider aspect ratio than most movies are filmed in. -
Ok, I've picked apart the PDF and I'm editing my very own Hiig Battlecruiser. I'm going to print it out on card stock so it's sturdier, and I'll post pictures if I manage to finish.

Yes. Yes I have. And Yes, yes it is.

My first post in that thread stated pretty much the same thing. I'm playing devil's advocate here. There is a reason people don't like it, and I think that it's such a departure from the general idea of what the Batmobile is "supposed" to look like.

MACROSS PLUS MOVIE EDITION JAPANESE GOOD OR NOT?!
Radd replied to isamu-ad's topic in Movies and TV Series
Much like Transformers The Movie, yet I still hear fans asking for a widescreen version of that. That was made tv aspect? Strange, but it does make the fact that there are no widescreen versions available make a whole lot more sense. I do seem to recall differences in pan and scan between different versions of the movie, but maybe I'm misremembering. -
I can't even begin to understand this logic. I detested the Schumacher Batmobile almost s much as I dested the movies themselves. I liked the Burton Batmobiles, the animated series version was alright, and even thge 60's tv series Batmobile had it's own charm. Of course, I don't dislike this vehicle, taken as itself, it just does not make me think 'Batmobile'. I think that's the problem most people have.

I just wish they weren't in PDF format, it's making it more difficult to edit the things than need be. I want to make the Hiig ships in my colours, with my logos all over them if I'm going to bother printing them out and putting them together. Oh, and just to be certain, before I waste materials, anyone ever tried printing stuff like these on cardstock to make them more sturdy? Does that work as well as I would presume it would?

MACROSS PLUS MOVIE EDITION JAPANESE GOOD OR NOT?!
Radd replied to isamu-ad's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well, unless I'm mistaken, the OVA was filmed in tv aspect, and since the movie used a good amount of that footage, it only makes sense that it was also done tv aspect. Unfortunate, but if the movie was not made in widescreen, the only way to make a widescreen version would to chop the top and bottom off, and that defeats the purpose. If you really want good picture and sound, get the Japanese version, but there will be no subtitles. -
I'm sure it's going to end up on one of the fanbase pages before long so even if people miss the re-airing it will eventually be seen. I personally see no difference between this and trying to buy a car. The same make and model of one year can come in many different colors. With or without: sunroof moonroof alloy wheels cd changer leather interior power windows power steering automatic engine size cruise control and etc.... which even when going to the dealership you are stuck to choose between what they have on the lot unless you preorder the car. If you can't find one you're looking for you have to wander around dealership to dealiship asking if they have the type of car you want. Isn't that just a frustrating? So just about any market out there is confusing it's consumer in some way. I agree it would be nice to have one all inclusive set. When I heard the Remastered RT was coming out I sold my original dvd's only to learn afterward the sound effects were changed and that the audio was subpar in opinions of some fans. I'm still without dvd's because I don't know where to invest my money again.. back into the originals or the new video? DVDs don't generally come with so many options to choose from, though. Normally you have the individual DVDs, and the box sets to choose from. The box set sometimes has a bonus disc of goodies. In the case of movies, there's tv formatted, and widescreen versions to choose from. Common options, most people know what to look for. Even this trips up a good number of people though, we all know the family member or acquaintance that doesn't understand the difference between full screen and widescreen. HG now, they have the individual discs, and two box sets. One comes with the extra goodies, the other doesn't, but comes in a different box. Add to that, the Remastered version, and the uncut, original series that Robotech was made from, I presume each of those comes in individual DVDs and box sets. Now, the hardcore Robotech fan can wade through the 4 different versions pretty easily. They know what they want, and they've been keeping up with what HG has released. The hardcore Macross, MOSPEADA, and Southern Cross fans likewise know they want the uncut real deal. They know enough to spot it when they see it, and only have to decide between individual DVDs, and box sets. The casual fan, now they have a problem. They most likely don't even know Robotech is made from three independant shows. They may or may not realize there is a remastered version, or the opinions surrounding that. The two different sets of box sets would understandably throw them, as well as the uncut versions. And let's face it, most fans are of the casual sort.

But what if I argued that Shin had indeed been all dead inside, and that it was his contact with Sara over the past 4 episodes that have healed him? He tells Sara that she's been so busy healing everybody else that she hasn't healed herself....why not include Shin in there somewhere? Guess that could be... but if it needs arguing for, rather than being made apparent in the narrative itself, then it points to something missing in the storytelling. It's pretty abrupt, either way-- Shin transformed from a vaguely annoying character without much personality or capacity for levity-- to someone much warmer and possessing an actual sense of humor. I would personally have preferred to see hints of these traits in pre-Sara and pre-Mao Shin, ie, joking more darkly and sarcastically with Edgar, or making the same sort of poignant observations about people around him, but through darker and more pessimistic eyes. Seems it'd make for more convincing development that way-- rather than transforming abruptly from "Every hates me, nobody likes me, you trust anyone and YOU DIE," Shin to love-happy-joking-sensitive-observant Shin. What I mean is that it's obvious Sara's affected Shin and is responsible for his new outlook. Floating rocks and boobies do that. But the actual transformation isn't as compelling as it could have been-- Shin seems to have traded personalities with someone in the matter of a single episode, rather than simply seeing things differently now than from before. -Al I think you're rather exaggerating Shin's personality early in the series, with a bend towards his unhappier side. We get to see the joking, smiling Shin from the first episode on. If anything, I'd argue that Shin seems manic-depressive in every episode. While he doesn't get as much character developement as he would in a full tv series, I've at least been impressed that they dropped the cold, emotionless anime-hero archetype fairly early into the first episode.

Crap, and I missed it? Sounds interesting, I hope someone gets the whole rant online in a video file, or just text.

the story was kinda good til the ending... The moment "THE HAND" made it's frightfully cheesy, B movie appearance, I wanted to storm out of the theatre. Unfortunately, videogames don't come in theatres to storm out of, and it was a friend's copy so I couldn't demand my money back. Mt problem with the story of the second game was that it tried to be a mind twist, but failed miserably. The plot itself was actually fairly simple and easy to follow, this even despite the awkward attempts to use a warped audio track, and ADD flashes of imagery and poor camera angles to try and give the impression that it was deep, twisted, and layered with wheels within wheels of conspiracy. Added to this were plot elements and character actions that made no sense whatsoever, exactly why did Big Boss and Raiden have to do their little dance? No real explanation, just more pseudopsych BS. The HAND was completely and utterly rediculous in and of itself destroying any credibility the game has of having anything remotely resembling a good story. Real mind benders can be unravelled with a little thought, and paying attention to the clues thrown at you, this game escaped being explainable, trying to put itself in a position of looking like a complex psych plot by implementing completely nonsensical elements. Explanations brought forth in the big "revelation" portion of the story had no logic to them and were left at that, with no rational behind them. Why does Chewbacca, an 8 foot wookie live on Endor with 3 foot ewoks. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, this does not make sense. Lookit the monkey! LOOKITTHEMONKEY!!!!

NEW(ER) AVP (Aliens versus Predator) Trailer.
Radd replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't think it's that, not entirely. My own opinion so far is based off what I've already stated above. The fact that I've seen nothing that appeals to me, and on top of it the only other film this director has done that I'm familier with I did not like at all (mind you, when I saw it with some friends it was on my suggestion, luckily most of them accepted my apology afterwards) I do not have high hopes. I predict this movie will suck based on what I've seen so far, but it has also been pointed out that trailers can be misleading to a point. I will probably go see this movie, though from what I've seen I will either wait until I hear positive comments about it from people I whom I know I share similar tastes with, or until it reaches the cheap theatres. -
I certainly hope ir's awesome. The first game was awesome. I just don't know what happened when it came time to make the second. The gameplay wasn't bad, I didn't even mind the fact that you played as someone other than Solid throughout most of the game, but the story was inexcusably bad.
