Most sites have him for around $80 US, NY seems to have him lowballed around $67, but probably will ask for more on shipping because of the extra stand that they'll forget to account for again.

Multi-mode displays, clearly. Only multiples I have are the Hikaru 1J, and 3 CFs, and a couple are meant for display on my desk at work. They're just much less obtrusive than the 1/60th scale ones.

I told myself I'm not going as deep into the HMR line as with the 1/60ths, and so far I'm not too badly off. As of now, I've got 8 counting pre-orders, and I'll grab the orange VF-1D and VT-1 if they appear, so I'll probably top out at 10. When/if they put out a TV Q-Rau, I might pick up a Max 1A, but I don't see the need for duplicating all 27 of my 1/60ths VT-1 and strike cannons notwithstanding, I'm probably sticking to just TV schemes for the HMR line. That's just classic Macross though, all bets are off if they bring out stuff from the other series.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
Chronocidal replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I watched a friend stream a couple hours worth of the single player mode, felt it was pretty darn impressive, actually. Very cinematic, much more story than I would have expected out of a BF title.- 6893 replies

Wow, still up after 6 hours? Got an order in with Ami Ami, but I might still try to pick one up at at HLJ at release, just in case. Either way... phew.

I'm really hoping all these random pop-ups mean it's going to be available at release, because I just can't deal with this website whack-a-mole game.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've never liked any of the toy Y-wings because of how borked up they always left the proportions. The large-scale X-wing is amazing, the A-wing has always been spot on, and even the oversized cockpit on the B-wing doesn't bother me that much, but the Y-wing has never looked passable to me. What I'm waiting for is for Bandai to get with it and release a non-electronic 1/48 X-wing already. I'm modding the fancy one I have to remove the motors and let me open the wings without power, but I seriously just want that kit with a standard open/close snap mount for the wings. -
Well, I risked ordering a second Regult from HLJ, it let me do it, I'll see if they tell me I can't. I got one on the first round, so maybe they're not as concerned about stock now?
-
Hrmm, still listed as limit 1 per customer though. Kinda defeats the purpose of army building, sadly.

Oh, yep, I was actually going to add that I just finished slapping a 262 kit together, and loved it. That thing is like a brick by comparison, and I was surprised how tightly the legs and wings locked together once I got them aligned correctly. Didn't expect it to be so well put together from the somewhat complex assembly, but it holds together nicely. Only sloppy bit with that kit seems to be the gunpod connection, and its folding fin doesn't like staying in place, but even the split tail seems to stay pretty well aligned. I might have to get a couple more, and I know I'll be grabbing a few of the non-Keith versions later. Here's hoping they make a white Roid one too.
-
Freakin hell HLJ, stop doing this at 4am!! Ugh.. anyone who can grab one, I'll gladly buy it off you.. I just can't sit around and wait online all night.
-
Yep, just got my warehouse notice from HLJ that it's available. Was hoping it'd arrive before I got my 31s, but looks like I'll just have to order something else from HLJ to go with it.

I wouldn't say the VF-1 was a failure due to being too much like a perfect grade, I think they just completely blew it trying to reinterpret the design in ways that were A) not an improvement over anything commonly used on VF-1s, and B) pretty darn ugly. Redesigning the entire knee area to work like the VF-25's legs was just a mistake. The animation accurate leg system was actually quite an achievement I think (though it would have been better in a larger scale to be sure), it's just that that seemed like the only thing they were interested in being accurate about, and the rest of the changes they made to the design just looked bad to me. Far as the 31 is concerned though, I'm not sure I'd call it sturdier than the VF-25 kit, since I've never had that many parts popping off my VF-25s, but it definitely transforms a lot more easily, and fits together a lot better in fighter mode without all the tiny arm and shoulder panels to mess with.
-
Ugh, really hope the Max becomes available at release or I'm going to be pissed. Bandai should've just made an exclusive M&M bundle pack, I'm sick of trying to catch both of them.
-
I'm looking forward to this thing so much more than the VF-31.. it's just nice to see something with a more unique transformation again, and this one is all sorts of wacky compared with everything from the past few series.
-
Heh.. maybe that bracket will actually stay on the wing. I know it's easy enough to just glue the parts together, but after building the Sv-262, it feels a lot sturdier than the VF-31 kit.

So I had a really wacked out dream this morning that I opened my Hikaru 1Js only to discover that they were a completely different design... hardly any actual transformation, mostly swapping out huge chunks of the body, more like a Tomytec kit.. and the boxes were half-sized or something, with no accessories at all.
-
Honestly, that entire system was one of the most boneheaded design choices on the entire thing. "We're going to include a mount that holds onto the neck shield in fighter mode.. but oh.. you still have to use a spare one for gerwalk, which has no place to store. Oops."
-
I wish they could get those letters to be less of a bold font though, they look way too intense. Also, I'm not sure I understand how you mean that they made the DYRL GBP 1J specific to that scene.. none of the details you're pointing out except the gray visor were visible under the armor during that ~5 second scene in the movie. Unless they're going off of DYRL line art that wasn't animated? Both the original HM and GBP versions have the DYRL-style black around the canopy though, while the new HMR with the right chest stripes has the TV style paint.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in theaters Dec. 16, 2016
Chronocidal replied to Dobber's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm not going to lie. The x-wing flyby made me tear up, it looked so good. I'll have to see close-ups later, but it looks like they really nailed the look of the ANH models, rather than copying the CGI from the special editions. -
Love those little A-Wing kits, they're beautiful. And I did get two, I'll probably get a third soon. But yeah. Definitely not 1/72. The pilot's basically got a 1/60 torso, 1/72 arms, and 1/48 legs. And the turrets are better used with Bandai's upcoming mini kits of the ships, since they're way too small. One feature did frustrate me a bit though. While I can't fault Bandai for being accurate, the two little black hose pieces on the back panel were absolutely microscopic, and I couldn't press them into place without snapping them in half. I just left them off.
-
Yeah, they simplified the construction of the 31 kits compared to the 25s, and they lost a lot of the reinforced structure that held them together. The transformation mechanism is probably better, but you'll have parts popping off every which way unless you glue the thing together.

Aircraft Super Thread Mk.VII
Chronocidal replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
What's actually weird is seeing a factory fresh aircraft. Got up close and personal with an F-18E once that was fresh off the delivery to a local squadron. The thing was so utterly uniformly painted, it looked like a toy. Completely flat paint, no dirt anywhere. It was bizarre. The pilots with the squadron were having a blast with it though, since it had come without a lot of mission specific components installed yet. No pylons, no pontoon mounts, nothing. They were hot-rodding the thing all over the desert, relishing in the low-drag/low-weight configuration, and how well it accelerated. -
Same, I can't have another Millia without a Max.. my Joke Machine has been lonely since I was five years old!
-
Oh.. so looks like Bandai solved the problem with the paint scratching off the shoulder tabs on the M&Ms by... just leaving them red and blue instead of painting them. Guess that sorta works.
