It is entirely possible that Bandai just had no clue how popular the design would be, and just weren't prepared for it in terms of factory output.

I honestly don't care when they get stock, so long as they do. I'm not going to delude myself with any expectation to ever get one though at this point. Bandai still seems to have no freakin' clue how to judge the Macross fanbase. What this really needs is someone who can actually address this issue from within Japan, because for all the ranting and raving here, Bandai doesn't receive any feedback, and can't even give any response.

They return your money back because they know they can find a current buyer who'll pay twice as much for it. If I don't hear anything in another week or so, I'm going to just flat out yell at them and offer to pay the current going price for them, see if I can't call their bluff. I'm not happy about paying the extra, but if I can get the items I ordered and drag their reputation through the mud it deserves? I'll take that bullet.

Will chime in that I paid for my pair on October 7th at 05:11:20, according to the NY account history. Time in the US works out to 1:11 PM on Oct 6th.

See, I'll be honest, this type of thing would have me screaming bloody murder at them for shafting their customers. You don't go cancelling orders, and then sell newly acquired items to whoever happens to click fast enough. You send an apology to the customer you cancelled on, and offer the item to them first.

I feel like the VT-1 really isn't that popular historically? I remember the Yamato being on sale for a long time. I'm glad Bandai decided to do it, but I'm a little surprised that they did.

I actually splurged and went for three, one at HLJ, and two at CD Japan. I might cancel the HLJ one later, but I really do like the Ostrich.

Yeah, Windows has had this feature for a while. I usually keep three clocks set: Local, GMT, and Japan.

It would be, but unfortunately we have no real insight into their system. If certain types of shipping get priority, that pretty much screws the whole process up.

Yeah, went to grab one after all. I don't feel the need for another Jolly Roger F-14, but the J should look nice.

Seriously.. what the crap.. when were they planning on telling me about this? Meh, I don't need that one anyway honestly. I'll see if BBTS still offers them though.

If they had done that, I don't think we'd have seen anyone actually getting them from NY, but a few have reported preparation notices.

I've had them take a while before, but I don't think any of the TWE items have had this sort of rampant demand. It seems Bandai just wasn't prepared for the production requests. I'm actually wondering if this has happened with other CF-ish units, especially with Gundam releases. Whether they wind up shafting any customers and saying "Too bad, we stopped production" remains to be seen, but the idea that they had to do more than one production run isn't all that surprising, and that would delay the orders.

Don't even try to understand Bandai's production practices, because it only ends in madness.

If you want to call them that.. I actually took them off because the red didn't match, and looked worse to me than the screws.

I put a pre-order in for the J-type from Flying Mule a while back, and have not heard anything back about that yet, but I'm not in any particular rush. One of my main motivators for that version was getting a full set of phoenix rails to use, but I was pleasantly surprised when the VF-142 release included the full set.

Nah, they have no immediately clear rhyme or reason discernable from our end on how they prioritize shipments. Could be anywhere from calendar date, to alphabetical by invoice number from left to right. I'm trying to stay positive about the whole thing, because if Bandai really did bork this up, there's nothing to do but wait and see if something happens on the Japanese end.

I want to say that owning it to watch at home might make the movie a lot more watchable, actually, because you'll be able to skip over the parts you don't like, and just watch the parts you want to. Depending on how well you liked the movie, that could mean cutting the runtime down to anywhere from two hours to thirty minutes, but hey, you get to focus on the good parts. I'm actually very curious to see if anyone will attempt a custom recut of the movie to address some of the more problematic sections.

I ordered on Oct 7th, so if I get my confirmation between those two separate orders, it'll at least be one data point.

I only keep the box tops of models I like the artwork of, and generally will fold them flat and let my bed's mattress do the work of compressing them down. -
Yeah, NY is never quick about these things anyway. I'll be relieved when I see a preparation notice, but I'm also not going to start panicking that there aren't any available. They're well known for taking their (sometimes excessive) time getting orders posted. If they wind up failing to get the orders they placed? That will be another story, and there will be fire and brimstone spewing from the internets at Bandai (again) for their questionable production decisions. But even if that happens, I'm going to have to accept that this is in the hands of Japanese customers to carry the backlash to Bandai's doorstep, because we all know how many flying rats' asses they give about this market.

So, something to keep in mind for Yamato/Arcadia packages. The boxes are mostly empty space, and you can fit a complete VF-1 in a much smaller package if you like. I think I fit 3-4 of them in a shoebox once, with complete accessories. The VF-1 is very very modular. You can take off the nose section, pop off the legs, and fold up the torso to be very compact. It would be very easy to perform some minor disassembly, bag them up, and then pack a large number of them in packing peanuts in a single box. Now, once those boxes are empty, they can be folded up, and stored flat, in case you ever need them. The trays? Unlike Bandai's Styrofoam, you can nest them. I haven't tried it myself to see how many would fit, but I bet you could stash a pretty thick stack of trays inside a super pack bundle box, due to it being thicker. -

So, I can say right now that I have the Macross Box Tetris game down to an art form. There are little tricks you learn about proportions, and what methods work for stacking, how to keep the stacks stable, and keep the boxes from getting warped. Bandai's boxes are all the same size, and better reinforced internally due to the solid Styrofoam, but I will generally alternate stacking directions to keep the towers of boxes in my office closet stable. For instance, I think Bandai DX boxes work about on a 3 to 1 ratio of thickness to length, so you can stack three vertically, one horizontally to alternate the directions. Super/armor pack add on boxes are thinner, and work as gap fillers. Same for the Yamato/Arcadia boxes. I think a super packed VF-1 bundle plus one plain VF-1 will fit vertically under a single VF-1 stacked horizontally. I'd have to check to be sure though... I can't open my closet right now, because there's another pile of un-stacked valk boxes in front of the door.
