Quoted for sheer beauty. They look amazing! I'm working on a similar printing project of my own, so I'm curious, did you need to do any major sanding/polishing on the prints beyond what the printer did, or were you able to smooth them out with coats of primer? Or both?

On second thought, I might treat this like the Messer VF-1, and just grab one to customize. I do like the alternate head. The blunted black striping on the fuselage just looks doofy, and the black panels on the front of the wing just don't look good. Same for that awkwardly shaped yellow section at the tip of the tails.. would it hurt them to paint a straight line? I like the leg and wing stripes though.. hmmm... Maybe if the colors are similar, I can just kitbash it with one of the FB2012 ones...

I'm honestly not a huge fan of the original Monster, but I suddenly have the urge to buy one to store under my bed, just for the joke. -
STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm a little late on the uptake, but I just realized.. this actually looks like it gets the A-Wing's size correct. Estimating based on the Home One hangar deck matte shot, the A-Wing is roughly as wide as the Y-Wing's nose section is long, and this diagram is the only direct comparison I've seen so far that ignores the "9.6 meter" length that so many sources fall back on. It's only half as long as an X-Wing. Also, saw Amazon has the 1/5000 star destroyer in lit, and unlit versions. Tempted to spring for the lit version, but the photos of it make it seem like the holes drilled for the fiber optic strands are enormous. Could be a scale thing, since the ship isn't that big, but it's kind of off-putting. Edit: Actually, considering the sale price, I might go for it. Decent discount at the moment that brings the two kits much closer in price. Too bad it's kind of small, but I think I'm okay with the size, since it'll be easier to display. https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-Destroyer-Lighting-Limited/dp/B07NQSRZG5/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=bandai+star+destroyer&qid=1569602494&sr=8-1 -
Might just pass this one. Really not feeling it. Bandai needs to hire someone better for their original paint schemes. This one's at least an improvement over the "Roy" YF-29, but not really flattering at all. Stripes kinda go nowhere.. giant patches on the fronts of the wings look really misplaced.

I'm thinking in terms of the HMR VT-1. I can't say they exactly hit the fire sale bin, but I remember them popping up on clearance sales at various sites, and they really weren't that hard to order to begin with. The Yamato VT-1 was the same way, and I got it on clearance at HLJ. Whether the faulty shoulders were to blame is really impossible to tell though, because of the unique situation the VT-1 is in. In my case, I just flat didn't care about the arms to begin with, because they were never even used on screen. The VT-1 is one of those oddball one-off designs that seems to have a very small and dedicated fanbase. It's absolutely an iconic design, but I feel like the a large portion of the demand for it is not for the design itself, but for the perceived rarity of it. I don't know if this is true, and I don't have production numbers to back it up, but it seems to me that the rarity of the old Chunky 1/55 version was not due to demand, but lack of demand. People just didn't buy them, so the number available on the open market was miniscule, and the secondary collector market drove the prices up after production ended.

Definitely grabbing 37, just picked up the Hornet from CDJapan a moment ago. I need to keep closer tabs on those release dates! -

Whoa, did they not make the Tornado's wings functional? I guess I can understand it due to the wing pylons, but a little sad nonetheless. -
Aircraft Super Thread Mk.VII
Chronocidal replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It probably is, but focusing on the individual capabilities of each aircraft purchased makes a heap of sense compared with throwing all the eggs in one multi-role platform basket. On top of that, while the diversity makes it difficult to manage, you're also hedging your bets on which platforms are going to get upgraded over time, and which designs and manufacturers (or even governments) are going to succeed in the long-term. -
Bandai isn't making these toys for this market, so between their market manipulation, and NY's flailing about trying to cover the pre-orders they received, I don't expect them anywhere near the release. The VF-31A was easily 6 months late to market for many, and people were still reporting receiving them going on 9+ months after the release date if I recall. With NY's order priority shenanigans? I'm fully expecting anyone who put in multiple orders for the packs during the first window to get booted to the end of the line for the second order, meaning they're going to be waiting probably an extra year or more for the packs. Doesn't mean I'm not going to be sending them a "Where's my order?" reminder on a weekly basis to keep them on their toes, but they seem to have perfected their ability to ignore both common courtesy and professional duty in addressing customer purchases in the order they are received.

Hachette Collection 1/24 VF-1S (subscription collectable)
Chronocidal replied to CF18's topic in Model kits
I want to say if they had done the full strike pack option, or done the proper flap/spoiler system for the wings I would have jumped in.. but I feel like I really can't justify that expense on a non-transforming VF-1, no matter how many bells and whistles it has. It does look a fair bit better quality/detail than the 1/20 kit though. -
I feel like the farther on we get, the less likely any of those things are, sadly. The Sv-51 took roughly two and a half years from announcement to release.. they've got a few repaints of older things to release, but that's a long time to stretch three or four repaints, especially if they're things like the VT-1 that weren't even that popular to begin with, and even moreso after the stock recall mess they're digging themselves out of right now.
-
I've just outright resigned myself to the notion that I probably will not be receiving my Hikaru 1S and strike packs until late 2020, if not 2021. It'll happen someday, but it just is not worth the disappointment that comes with expecting it near the release date.

Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
Chronocidal replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
Not to say they couldn't change it for you after it's paid too, they just aren't usually willing to be that flexible. Digging at NY aside though, I am glad they put the proper arms on it, and the other upgrades. I'm definitely more torn than I should be given the cost, but the over-weathering is seriously a problem, on top of the blatant mismatch with literally every other valk I own. It would probably look great next to that 1/48 Swordfish coming later this year, but the VF-0D isn't what I would call a collection centerpiece subject... its just too obscure a valk. -

I mean, technically they did, but only the display model to advertise their kit version. I think the only three Yammies I never got are the VFX, Angelbirds, and Cavaliers, but I only really regretted the VFX. Of course then I went and compensated by buying too many of all the rest of them. -
Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
Chronocidal replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
Hope not, but as much as I'd love a PF version to go alongside the Roy I just ordered, the weathering means this one doesn't match any of my other valks, and I'm kinda leaning toward "nope" because of that. Really a shame, since it is a beautiful paint job, but I don't feel like diving down that particular rabbit hole at this point. -
I actually do wonder whether Bandai would bother with the VT-1, since judging by the HMR sales, I don't think it's exactly a hot seller.

It's an impressive piece, with a lot of little details, but man if it isn't the most unwieldy hunk of plastic in the Macross product line. I messed with the set a little, but didn't apply the whole thing, using the VF-31E I had laying about. Orange not quite a match, but it wasn't too bad. All I did was mount the arm cannons and giant cannon pack to see how they looked, and it kind of worked to keep most of the plane streamlined. I think my least favorite part is the flippy/spinny/sliding boxes of missiles on the booster packs though. I don't know what good they expected that little black stub piece to do, but it's absolutely ineffective on mine at holding the pods aligned, and they just sag in fighter mode. Also think the little beak-like covers over the big cannons are pretty useless, since they don't really seem to work well in any position but snapped closed. I did get two sets so I have one to customize, but I might try and find a spare set of regular super packs to do the same with, so I can mix and match the components.

I just hope they skip the regular release, and go straight to PF like with the VE-1 (and at the same price point). I've been wanting a second VT-1 for years, and a PF version will definitely pop in a display. Of course, then we just wait for Bandai to release the 1/48 version, which I hope they actually get around to.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
See, that bomber X-Wing fixes what I think is the biggest problem of the T-70: the lower wings look like sticks. They don't look like wings anymore, and the lasers are just kinda hanging out under the ship. Individual designs aside though, I'm mostly just disappointed that they haven't designed a single original ship for these new movies that I give two shakes about. They're all either hackjobs of OT designs, or the ugliest monstrosities this side of pouring glue in a box of spare parts, and shaking it to see what comes out. -
STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's the kind of thing I would wait and see if it hits the bargain bin like the Walmart exclusive Tie Fighter recently. I don't really regret paying retail, because it's a beauty, but the quality of the product is not worth that price, especially when they still insist on using that stupid spring-loaded "battle damage" gimmick to attach the wings. I probably harp on the T-70 design more than is fair, and it looks great in some cases.. just not once the wings open. I think with a little work, they could have even made the split wing design aesthetically pleasing, but they made them so uneven that the lower wings just look like guns mounted on sticks. I always found the symmetry of the classic X-wing one of its best aesthetic features, and I wish they had just stuck with the original McQuarrie design. I'll be very curious to see what they tweak about the Y-Wings and B-Wings for the last movie. -
The email I got sounded like they'd be plenty willing to take the return, so it's probably worth a shot.

Wow, great news! That's some massive production snafu though. I wonder how they wound up with so many of one ankle.. maybe the factory broke one mold, and didn't tell anyone?

Yeah, you should be fine, I'm guessing they are busy chugging through the stack of reports and return questions. You contacted them plenty fast, so no reason they shouldn't take the exchange no questions asked once they get fixed stocks. That's just going to take a while for Arcadia to unscrew the situation. I really hope Arcadia can weather another QC ding on their record though. I think this is only their second original Macross release since Yamato folded, and both have been plagued by QC/factory/assembly issues. Could possibly count the YF-19, but I still think of that as a Yamato really, and I don't know if that one used the same factories as the VF-0s and Sv-51s.
