If the Varja queen has full control over the fold network, then that's your true purpose right there. whoever gains such power would easily rule the galaxy. Now that's an idea!! here, here. minmay's a pretty tough girl to get over, but sheryl has done it for me. far cry from mylene, myung or the nome sisters. and YES, FRONTIER ROCKS! -

Now THAT'S the perspective that the macross franchise needs. well said. would be pretty hard to do that in the office. at least i can get away with posting on MW, coz i can pretend i'm typing some complex report. -

NNNNOOOOOO!!!! *sob*, i know, i know, this day was eventually gonna come, but knowing doesn't make it easier. *sob*. I mean, what else am i gonna do during my office hours when this is all over? ummm... work? Shhhhh!!! Shut up, you! -
i was thinking that as well. hmmm.... i can't recall exactly, but the new breed of the formics (post endercide) was also infected with the descolada, right? the formics just adapted to it? or is my mind making this up already? EDIT: Strike that. got my ender concepts mixed up. having reading the summaries again, i'm struck at how much new ideas and concepts were crammed into the ender sequels.

6 words Misa Hayase has been dying to hear from Hikaru and Minmay. But til now, they have remained strangely quiet on that topic. -

about brera being ranka's brother? certainly no Darth Vader revelation there. i think even those who don't frequent MW, even non-macross fans, even non-anime fans saw that coming a mile away. ranka and brera are the only idiots not to figure it out. i mean, just from the time ranka heard him playing aimo on his harmonica should have given her reason to at least think of a connection. -
hey waitiaminute, how did sheryl become a framling? coz she's french? precisely, vajra are varelse right now. leon and the rest of frontier is acting on that premise. but as Speaker for the Dead discussed, the difference between Ramen and Varelse is very subjective. it would depend entirely on the human race. so once humans find a way to communicate with them (via ranka) they turn into Ramen. pretty much what happened in Ender's Game. the humans acted all along on the premise that the formics were Varelse, but ender learned too late that they were ramen. and ender was basically the "ranka" there.

yeah, that's what i said. alto joined the SMS to protect ranka. hikaru joined the military to protect minmay. my "ahem.misa" was in reference to sheryl thinking/knowing (take your pick) that alto is merely feeling sorry for her, much the same way misa felt in DYRL when she saw hikaru about to follow minmay out the door. you mentioned that Roy flashback. good catch. isn't that exactly what Klan did? klan basically acted the Roy part, making alto think of his reason for joining the SMS, and to decide once and for all what he wants to do from now on. in that regard, klan is more effective. alto will act on klan's question in the next 2 episodes, whereas it took Hikaru 8 more episodes from the time Roy talked to him before he made his choice. -

sounds reasonable. but the thing is, would alto really mind if she gets a sugar rush and gets sleepy? i don't see alto as the lonely kind who needs fully-awake company. he's not one to mind sheryl falling asleep on him. (it's what she would do on him while she's awake that worries him. hehe.) i'd have to go on "slightly alcoholic" on this one, alto distinguishing alcoholic (sake) and law-acloholic beverages. for me, it's the only way alto's reaction to sheryl drinking too much. alto's soooo boring, ne? i'd take hikaru and his "love hotel nudge" anyday. much more natural. i found the chopstick scene cute. on the other hand, maybe she's just not used to japanese cuisine, but quite the classy diner with french/western cuisine. or maybe she knows how to act classy, but this is her natural state. she has grown so comfortable around alto, she's just thrown all pretentions aside (except of course, the pretention that she's completely upbeat about everything). -
Seeing as that Millia hates being bested by Max, and Max feels the same way, i would say that both of them are top-tier experts on that. kamasutra? Ha! child's play.

Gasp! So Basara isn't only a joke, he's also a RIP-OFF?! hehe. nice call on this one. i remember the silverhawks, but i didn't make the bluegrass-basara connection. -
yup, you got the meanings right. it's swedish, i think. except for ramen. methinks ol' Card was slurping up a bowl when he thunk up his "hierarchy". Damn, there're only 3 swedish words i can use. *slurp* i NEED one more! *slurp* Think, man, think! *slurp*

Ok, i finally saw the subs for this episode (wow, everything makes sense now! it makes sense that everything is so vague! i honestly don't know where this is headed anymore. (good thing i stopped speculating a while back). nevertheless some obsevations. so clearly sheryl feels that alto is just showing her some sympathy. ""Being kind is a sin. Even if i know it's condescending sympathy, i'll want to take advantage." On the other hand, Alto kind of admits that he joined the SMS/army to protect one girl - Ranka. and that everyhting he's done is for that girl. never the less, when push comes to shove, and give3n a choice between ranka and his duty to protect humanity... he chose humanity. sounds familiar. ahem. misa. ahem. hikaru. see? i told you i quit speculating a long time ago. -

Yup, what he said. two local UHF channels try to pass themselves of as "anime" channels (they show various anime during the afternoons and weekend mornings, dubbed in filipino). On the other hand, they tend to show the same anime over and over again. takes long before they show a new one. and then there are the two cable channels. also offering english dubbed anime. sadly, there is NO channel which offers anime in subbed form. hence, i don't really watch any of these channels, and rely on subs downloads and bootlegs. -
Now that i finally watched ep 23 in subs, something in particular struck me. Leon and Bilrer were giving their spiel about the nature of Vajra, and Bilrer in particular described the Vajra as the "other", rendering them humans absolutely unable to communicate with them, and vice versa. wow. that's classic Speaker for the Dead terminology. The Hierarchy of Alienness. How alien is an alien? Utlannings are strangers of one's own species and one's own world (i.e. community or culture). An utlanning is a person who shares the observer's cultural identity. For example, if one were to meet a stranger who lived in another city, state, or province, this person would be considered utlanning. (Different races?-Macross Zero/Macross Plus) Framlings are members of one's own species but from another world or culture. This is a person who is both substantially similar to and significantly different from ourselves. (Zentraedi? - SDFM) Ramen are humans from another species who are capable of communication and peaceful coexistence with Homo sapiens sapiens, though that does not guarantee they will pursue the latter. While ramen can share ideas with each other, they may not have common ground, at least not initially. (Protodevlin? - Macross 7) AND the next and final level in the hierarchy of alienness... strangers from another species who are not able to communicate with us. They are true aliens, completely incapable of common ground with humanity. They live, but we cannot guess what purposes or causes makes them act. They might be intelligent, they might be self-aware, but we cannot know it. This is basically what Leon and Vajra said about the Vajra... and guess what this final level is called... Varlese. pronounced var-ELSS-uh. sure it's different, but it's also a bit similar. could be a nod. jees, i can't believe i didn't catch this before. took a pep talk from leon and bilrer, of all people, for me to make a connection.
