  1. For somebody who is new to MW, accusing other longtime MWer as a troll speaks volumes, ain't it? I was too. In fact I was a long time fan of SDFM in mid 1980s, an RT fan in 1990s & avid collector of RT novelizations & admittedly was a staunch McKinniyist before turning into a Purist a long time ago. Now I'm more of Macross fan, with fond nostalgic memories of RT. Should we really comparing credentials here? Like it all you want, but McKinniyist breed died a long time ago, I was one of McKinniyists crowd engaged in various debates & flame wars that raged in late 1990s & early 2000s .... but we lose that war when HG choose the Purist route. When novelisation got the shove as secondary material in Yune's RT-verse, sanctioned by HG, the novels just became a nostalgic piece of RT history. No more, no less. You said you prefer the novelisation, but most of the elements like thinking caps, the Shapings, and God forbid .. the Sentinels / End of The Circle simply not supported by the animation. Not to say even the old novel timeline is non-canon thanks to reboot timeline in canonical Yune's RT-verse sanctioned by HG. As for popcorn thingies, now this thread survived as a constant amusement to MWers. Most of the old RT vs Macross legal wranglings had been talked to death. Then it became the sob stories for RT fans who find themselves booted from RT.com. Then the usual RT & Yune bashing. Ohhh, yes, most also come here to get news firsthand regarding RT instead of RT.com. You want to share what is so great in appreciating RT novelisation, then RT.com or RTX.com is the place to be .... not MW. Especially this thread. Here MWers tend have annual RT witch hunting open season. A couple of years back, surviving RT fans that ever stumble to this thread and survived the lynching & public executions would consider it is as their baptism of fire .... but before long, they would swore allegiance to Macross after realising the RT cake has gone stale for far too long.
  2. Yeah, it kinda the same for me. I didn't even know Macross 7 exists only AFTER I watched Macross Plus with Galaxy thrown in during late 1990s. A nice little web jaunt to Macross Mecha Design website, I was more than intrigued .... definitely got me interested in Macross 7. It was EPIC!!!!!
  3. I think you left out the lasting legacy of Macross II that lingers on in Macross 7. Personally, I like Macross II, hated Macross 7 - only to loved Macross 7 more than Macross II (listened to Basara on daily doses & appreciating Sivil had make me a convert). I mean, there's Haruhiko Mikimoto character's designs splattered all over Macross II. That's a win, naturally for me. Then there's that sleek Valkyrie VF-2SS & awesome Destroids ... & humongous Macross cannons. Oh, even Marduk mechas & ships are a visual fest! But still, it felt a bit hollow ... perhaps ... I don't know ... feels too 'Robotech-y' ? Sure, I did kinda feel that when ... Silvie Gena feels as better character as compared to Dana Sterling / Marduk & its brainwash Zentrans seems like a better version of RT Masters & their Zentraedi slaves / Red Gilgamesh more than equals Red Bioroid / besieged Earth by Mardook Fleet as compared to besieged Earth by Masters' Armada .... Ahhh well, Macross II do feel superior to any Robotech series, bar Macross Saga.
  4. Its being done before ... SDFM > DYRL / Macross Plus OAV > Macross Plus Movie Edition / Macross Frontier TV > Macross Frontier Movie I & II. So, if Big West wants to cash in with nostalgic fest of Macross crowds, sure, why not? Especially if its make money & profit for 'em, the better. It could be brand new reboot SDFM in the style of Macross the First OAVs or series .... I mean, its up to the creators & PIC at Big West. Old Macross gaijins fans grouses from the West won't change jack. I support reboot, ONLY if its Macross the First being animated.
  5. Personally, I don't know why, other Macross sequels from Mac II, Mac Plus, Mac 7, Mac 0, Mac F .... none can touched my heart & string my sentimental heartache as that of Flashback 2012. Watching Flashback 2012 is a haunting beauty to me that goes beyond words ... for me, it is perfect ode to the songstress Minmay, a fitting finale for both SDFM & DYRL. Sure its had warts, but .... it is a better conclusion to the SDFM & DYRL characters that we so loved.
  6. Seriously, for RT fans who ventured into this thread ..... did they expect MWers would welcome 'em with flowers peace crap thingies? Supposedly they should've been flayed & burned alive at the stakes .... I mean, this thread & its various incarnations had successfully converted a many RT fans into Macross bosoms (Lyn Minmay, Misa Hayase, Myung Fang Lone, Sharon Apple, Shery Nome, Sara Nome, Millia Fallyna, Ishtar, Silvie Gena, Klan Klan .... Basara Nekki) ... with Yoshinol-induced acid trip. Owh, enough rambling. This thread has gone too amusing. Never thought even a hardcore McKinniyist (thought that particular sect of RT fandom went extinct a long time ago) would come by to defend RT novelisation vs the animated material on MW, of all places. Gimme some popcorn!
  7. Well, that's how most of us viewed the matter. But then again, most RT RPG fans nevertheless treat the new RT RPG ed. as their new gospel. They don't give a hoot about canon-schmanon thingies. Some of them didn't even watch Robotech in the 1st place, but played the RPG because they're harcore RPG gamers. Granted, there's no official mech-based RPG in USA apart from classic Battletech, Robotech, Bubblegum Crisis .... and Macross II. I've been through many facets as a Robotech fan throughout my years in the fandom, as McKinniyist (I lived in Asia at the time where's there limited RT products available, apart from RT novels) .... as online fandom begins with uRRG - I become Purist (yeah, & involved in several flamewars, debates between McKinniyists (later reformed as Early Return faction) vs Purist (reformed as Late Return faction). Aaahhhh the days, kinda missed it. But then, thanks to Dave Dietrich Steelfalcon website, I started to discover my love for Macross once again. Macross Plus, Seven ... sure the ol' site ain't perfect, but it is THE REFERENCE site for many Macross fans (apart from Egan Loo's) in mid & late 1990s before the advent of MW. It was there that I learned the elements of RPG in both Robotech & Macross-verse. Of course, I'm not interested in playing the RPG, but I'm more intrigued regarding the possibilities of expanding elements of RT-verse so prevalent in the ol' RT RPG. By mid 2000s, as RT fandom self destruct itself via schism & feuds between several factions on RT.com, I kinda shied away from the RT-verse, apart from postings here & there on sporadic basis. I was from that time trying to dabble in fanfics, expanding upon several uRRG essays that tried to filled several plotholes of RT-verse ..... but in my case, its just a case of being an RT fan to contribute to RT fans in general. My fanfics only served to give general & detailed backgrounds of RT-verse for RT fans, especially the RT RPGers so it may enriched their RPG gaming. I no longer cares much about what's canon or non-canon. As long its official RT sources including previous decanonised materials, then I'm game enough to use 'em for my fan essays. Now, I considered myself a Universalist ... in a way still a Purist, but willing to to include elements fron non-canon RT official sources to enrich my understanding of RT-verse. But I also consider myself as part of Lying Macross Purist TM. :D Maybe I'm not as some passionate Macross fans that found RT as the archenemy or some former RT fans that converted to Macross. I don't harbor ill-will towards HG as well, although their business ethics regarding Robotech franchise is questionable. Maybe I'm one of the rare breed that able to enjoy both Macross & Robotech equally. Well, coming from my kiddie years, able to watch both original SDFM & Mospeada ... later on with RT ... did give me an appreciation to both series. I do not have emotional baggages (most are justified) that plagued both side of Macross & RT fandom. Being from someone who're both appreciative of Macross II & avid lover of Macross 7, perhaps I'm able to accept the differences of both franchises.
  8. Thanks, Jason ... well, on my part, suggesting Mospeada LLA as a new RT project is something I floated back around 4 years ago ... right after RTSC ended its run. For me, it was more of a way of getting more of an official release of Mospeada LLA as it was (& still is) damned hard to get my hand on said original animation (being a Mospeada nutcase that I am). Only HG & Tatsunoko has access to it ... while waiting for RTSR, HG should atleast throw a bone to us RT:TNG / Mospeada fans. Its kind of ironic now, HG choose the 'Robotech: Love Live Alive' tagline for the new project, something that I actually posted on RT.com a couple years back .... couldn't TPTB be atleast a little bit original? Oh Jason, thanks for the advice. As for the new RT project, I'll think I wait until I could leech it off from Youtube. I'd rather wait for official release of Macross Frontier 2 the Movie & burn my money on that. That & actually saving some money for trip to Singapore to catch Mayn concert next November. Apparently, they did .... its just that combined footages of Mospeada LLA & that of the new animation .... my best bet, it'll look something like Flashback 2012, or the Gundam Zeta: The New Translation trilogy. Which is not really a good idea. Flashback 2012 & Mospeada LLA actually works, as these OAVs are tributes to both Macross & Mospeada fans, & retold as a collection of AMVs from songs of the said series. These OAVs are a nice gestures from the series creators to its loyal fans & a proper conclusion / send off for the original series. As for RT:LLA, it doesn't seem to be even a tribute nor a closure of that series, just another attempt of cashing in more dollars from fans.
  9. Yeah, I'll be leeaching those vids off Youtube ..... since I already bought the original RT DVDs back in 2004, and had the Remastered edition (dirt cheap, the China's RT Remastered Edition) plus RTSC.
  10. Although, I'm a tad disappointed with HG .... when I first floated the idea of Mospeada LLA be converted into RT, it is more of a tribute thing, to get all the RT: The New Generation casts (the Mospeada segment) onboard, and get Michael Bradley to re-recorded his TNG songs into Yellow Belmont's concert segments. Which means an RT LLA is simply a redub Mospeada LLA without any alteration at all. But HG saw it fits to edit Mospeada LLA with new footages, kinda like, RT version of Macross Flashback 2012. Eh .... waitaminute ... did I just hit something there? I mean, RT's version of Flashback 2012 .... did HG just somehow copied & paste the idea from a Macross production? Goshhh, never thought it that way ....
  11. Huh ... been a loongggggg time since I posted in MW ... or RT.com for that matter. But hearing about the new RT Project .... hey, if I'm not mistaken, it was me who actually pimping the idea of reusing LLA as part of Robotech new animated project after the long slumber of RTSC ..... at RDF-HQ board, RT.com & MW. After a snide reply from MEMO ... (or is it Mav ... my memory is failing me .... ), well, I kinda dropped the idea ... which I called Robotech Love Live Alive anyway .... The FACT that they actually make it into a reality ... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH ...... damn, that was something! Well, now we going to have a new Mospeada (ehhh, I mean Robotech LLA) tribute .... I might get my hands on that .... I mean, this should not come as a surprise anyway ....
  12. Fear not. The Hongkong pirates will not disappointed us. I expect the 'legal' Nyan Cli DVD / Blu-Ray will be available in SEA market within a month's time. And yes, I confidently said this after being stupefied with the 'legal' legit DVD of Macross F Galaxy Tour Final in Budokan being sold together with Macross F OST in one package yesterday. And yes, being a sucker to all things Macross, I parted with my money on that one. When will my affliction with Mac F ends!
  13. Ohhh my God! That artwork just confirmed my worst suspicion! Before RTSC ever seen fruition back in early 2000s, a discussion took place at RDF-HQ about unfounded rumors that HG would like to shoe-horn Macross 7 (with significant edits, making Gamlin as central character as opposed to Basara) into new animated RT sequel. A scuttle-butt told me that atleast one pre-lim character design (Alex Romero?) closely resembled that of Gamlin. Could it be that the original premise of RTSC is that of a bridging OAV to link both RT-verse & Macross 7? As for me, seeing that transforming Ark-Angel with similarity (at least superficially) to Battle 7 seems to bear out the theories .... that HG may want to shoe-horn another Macross successful sequels into its stale RT stable .... atleast before the Big West vs Tatsunoko legal fiasco started. Thank God the BW vs Tats case finally put a deathknell to HG's wish. BTW JasonC .... do you have any other pre-production images from the same file to share with us?
  14. Grace had a shower scene in the Movie? A fine full bloody minute? Darn Malaysian Censorship Board! They had the gall to cut that scene from the 'legitimate' copy of the HK's 'illegitimate'-English subbed copy of Mac F the Movie. Awwwwwwwwww mannnnnn.......
  15. DYRL -> Flashback 2012 -> Macross II -> Macross 7 -> Macross Plus -> SDF Macross -> Macross 0 The reason why SDFM slipped is simply because ... well, the animation errors and dated animation sequence. Apart from that, the story is just fine as it is.
  16. I personal voted for YF-19 / VF-19. Given that Basara actually flew two custom variants of said Valks says something about the model.
  17. I live in Asia, and I actually watched Robotech (with SDF Macross to boot!) I know a lot of people who didn't even know Macross, but spewing Robotech references instead. But thanks to Plus & Seven, some of them actually remembering the good ole SDFM again. Thanks to Fire Bomber! Agreed. I like M7. I can accept new things, eventhough I will judged at first harshly blinded by prejudiced on something so radical, but will grow to like it & even fond of it nonetheless. You, dear sir, are wise indeed. I do suggest should you itching enough to post again, pls don a flame-proof suit. Although that still wouldn't save you from being quartered, drowned or being shoved outta deepspace with that darn tuna.
  18. Seriously, didn't we concluded the legal thingamagigas HG/Tats/WB vs BW/Nue a looooonnnnggggg time ago? I mean, why kicked the dead carcass that HG's still pimping? I mean, sure that HG may a tad unethical, but a US company leeching of a legit work of a Japanese studio who got duped by another Japanese anime distribution company through legit means in both countries ..... Damnnn, enough already. Ohwaitaminute .... is this a RTwitchhuntingseasonburn'em'stake'em thingies in this time of the year? Carry on ...
  19. After nearly a week, I visited the same retail store, now the racks are jampacked with Macross F the Movie DVDs. To my surprise, the Pirates of the China Seas outdid themselves, they actually distribute a whopping Macross SPECIAL EDITION DVD with DYRL / Flashback 2012 / Macross Plus OAVs (Manga Ent.'s English dubbed version) / Macross II OAVs (Japanese audio) / Macross 0 OAVs / Macross 7 Movie & Dynamite 7 OAVs in one neat package alongside the Macross F the Movie DVDs .... Ohhh, they begun reselling the Macross F series bundled with original OST. Me being a sucker to all thing Macross ... I bought the whole nine yards .... Awwww hell .... there goes my salary again .... crap ....
  20. I missed the mark by a month. FYI, on Friday (as of 15 Oct 2010) week last, in selected anime retail stores in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Macross Frontier the Movie DVDs are available with English / Chinese / Malay subs. Safe to say, by Sunday, the title sold out & thankfully I got the last copy. Scuttle butts said due to brisk debut sales, another shipment from Hong Kong will be flooding in the next few weeks. And yes, the pirates has been busy. The subs are decent, despite misspelling in place /character names. However, I do not recommend this to Macross fans who're native English speakers.
  21. True Lies? Didn't that movie got banned by Malaysian Govt at the time? I had to leech from night markets for a cheap pirated copy of that movie ...
  22. The fansubbers, mannnn! And thanks to the enterprising Pirates of The China Seas & its allies in HK, Malaysia & Singapore, who leeched the fansubbing community by profiteering from *cough*cough* legal sales (in SE Asia, China & HK anyway) in these uncharted territories out of bound from Japanese IP & copyright laws. It will, I'm betting by November, the Mac F the Movie DVD with English / Mandarin / Thai barely intelligible subtitles hitting the HK, China & South East Asian market soon!
  23. Have watched the said movie. Not half bad for an epic fantasy culled from a Nickolodeon carton, but the acting sucks arse. But I can't stop the racial overtones ... Caucasians & smatterings of Inuits as Watertribes, Indians as Fire Nations, Chinese obviously Earth Kingdoms & the extinct Air Nomads - darnit, I can't put my finger on it ... Americans going Buddhist? - that's about right ...
  24. :: Checks in for any worthwhile news regarding RT .... None. Went back to sleep :: P/S: Been wondering why I've been checking for RT news on a Macross site ..... WTF .... ohwaitaminute .... that gotta be the itch for Mac F the Movie DVD release instead.
  25. Blood .... check! Lots of blood .... check! Stallone .... check! Statham .... check! Jet Li .... check! Austin .... check! Guns & massive explosions .... check! People dying in droves .... check! Limbs & gore .... check! Hell yeah, who cares about character developement in a no brainer actioner!
