People do it for the same kinds of reasons they drop well over 20k yen into a crane game for a 1500 yen figure {yes I actually watched a Japanese dude do this). For fun, because they like the thrill of gambling, etc. Why did I stand around watching? Because the guy had gotten the figure to the edge and I was hoping he'd give up so I could swoop in and nudge it a little and win the figure for cheap. Alas he didn't give up. Sunk cost fallacy or whatever. 🙃 There was a Sheryl figure that came out alongside that Freyja to promote the Delta movie and Frontier short. I ended up picking up both simultaneously. They very rarely show up on Mandarake, which is unusual for these figures.

I did the lottery thing once while in Tokyo. It was for a Sheryl figure that had 3 slight color variants. Paid 6k yen, drew a ticket, and got one of them. Luckily I got the color I wanted on the first try. The figures themselves aren't for sale at normal retail shops. Have to get them secondhand from places like Mandarake. If I recall, there are different prices for different prize levels as it would be hella lame to pay 6k yen and get one of the cheap 100 yen prizes. As for why Bandai does this... well, making things available for a limited time usually boosts sales. Ask McDonald's about the McRib to find out more! Did you get the Sheryl figure that was released alongside that Freyja?

Arcadia B is specifically for the weird hexagon plug they went with for their Macross Zero releases. Arcadia A will work for everything else released by Arcadia or Yamato.

Getting Sheryl's face right has been a challenge for figure makers since time immemorial.

Im with you on that, primarily because I'm running out of space. I'll probably sell off my duplicates once I get my new moducases. I like having the extras for spare parts but really need to make space.

I'm not terribly concerned about the box condition as long as the toy is undamaged.

It could have been avoided with using just a tiny bit less force on the shoulder screws. I guess over-tightening screws is the new thing because the screws on my revival 25 were also incredibly tight. Had to break out a much larger screwdriver to loosen them because my little hobby screwdriver simply couldn't provide enough torque.

Skimping on details is Bandai's bread & butter. That's the entire reason the HMR line exists. Shoulder blocks should be grey too. Whoops! More details... (so much for just doing a quick panel wash )

Agreed. "Overpriced" is a subjective term, after all. I personally don't consider Arcadia to be overpriced for what I'm getting.

The only upcoming DXs are reissues. Nothing new but HMR.

Yup, prices for all toy lines have gone up across the board. I think because there were so many clearance sales way back in Yamato's heyday and people got used to those sale prices that once Yamato went under (turns out their business model wasn't great for solvency) and Arcadia had to move to a business model that would allow them to actually stay afloat that a bunch of people decided Arcadia was way overpriced and wanted the pricing back from the Yamato days.

Yeah, Bandai's HMR may be overpriced sometimes, but Arcadia isn't a great example for more reasonable prices.
