The Official Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread
Noriko Takaya replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The black hole bomb was Jupiter. The entire planet had been turned into one massive weapon, compressed to 1/30000 its normal size. Kazumi states this in episode 6, so I don't see how man could have populated it. I am going to have to watch episodes 2 and 3 of Top 2! just to see what I missed. As for the enemy, mankind's plan was to lure all the aliens to one spot and use the bomb. The aliens showed up in force in excess of 26,000,000,000 units before the bomb was to explode. I would think this is a little overkill for taking on a handful of ships numbering in the tens of thousands, but these guys were there for a purpose, and that was to wipe out humanity. So, when the black hole bomb went boom it turned the entire center of the galaxy into one huge assed black hole. While humanity was prepared for it and escaped, I do not think the aliens could have. Maybe on the outer fringes. Which brings up their methods of reproducing. If we go by what you are saying, then humanity would have been alerted to the increased amount of stars dying at one time. The aliens procreate by laying their eggs into the heart of a g-class yellow star. To even get their numbers back to where they may have once been would take a long time. I would think that humanity would have stationed outposts just to ensure that the alien menace was indeed dead. All in all, I do not think the new aliens are the same as the old ones. But they may be related to the insects of the original series. With three episodes to go, I guess we'll find out. However, if these Uchuu Kaiju are the original aliens, then that makes Noriko's and Kazumi's sacrifice at the end of the original show a waste. -
The Official Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread
Noriko Takaya replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The monsters of the original anime were more of a threat to mankind. Not much was known about them save for their reproductive methods, and that was even a hypothesis. Their methodology was a lot clearer though as you stated, as their sole point was the total eradication of the human species. When attacking they acted together as insects would do if their colony was invaded. They were intelligent, had warp capability, and possessed energy weapons, albeit natural in origin. It is stated that the purpose of Operation Calnedius was to eradicate the alien threat once and for all, therefore securing mankind's survival. There could have been stragglers or survivors, but that is doubtful. My feelings on this new series of monsters is that they may actually be a sub-species or a lower life form, but we really have not seen much of them as we have in the older show. At least not in the large battle cruiser type fights we were accustomed to. So we really do not know their intentions. They may not consider mankind to be a threat to the overall survival of the universe. More on this later. -
I admit, this new trailer is a lot better than the original. My curiosity is now piqued.

As I said, OTAKON was good to me. I really never expected to find any Gunbuster cels there. I just asked. There were others, but none of them were full frame face shots like the one I posted. I did see a large cel of the Gunbuster itself, but it was like $1500. I'm still trying to find one of Kazumi. Once I get a decent one of her, my cel collecting days are done as far as this series go. Gunbuster cels are way too expensive. I would like to get some of the mecha, particularly an RX-7 Noriko or Amano version. I found a Jung version, and I may get that one.

Pre-ordered mine. I need something to do that will keep me sane. -

Well, that is some good news to those fans of the games if they indeed do keep it as true to the original source as possible. Obviously these guys want to get it right. Now, if it were only true of Majesco and their BloodRayne franchise... -
She was 20 when the series was released on television. Here's another jailbait-type picture of Mari for you fans of her to drool over:

Here she is, Eri Takeda, the actress who played Millia!

First of all, this was my first time going to this convention. After standing out in the god-awful rain for almost an hour (because I was too stupid to get my badge the day before), me and my posse of schoolgirls finally made it in and had a great time. I wish I could have met some of you guys at the Macross Panel, but time dictated I had to get my whiny cluster of 15 and 16 year-olds home because they started bitching at about 6:00. Tomorrow I am going with my girlfriend and not playing chaperone. I know there is going to be stories and photos, so I started this thread so everyone can post what they did. My most exciting part of the day was unearthing a cel of Jung Freud from one of the vendors down in the dealer area, and this was just as I was about to leave. I also saw what I considered to be worse than man-Faye, that is I saw a 60 year-old guy dressed up as Excel from Excel Saga, with matching hair, dress, and Menchi. If someone got a picture of this travesty, share it.

OTAKON WAS FRIGGIN' GOOD TO ME THIS YEAR!! Look at what I found! I have been looking for a Jung Freud cel for ages and this one pops up. There was another running about $900, but the one I got was valued at $450 and reduced 50% off. There wer others, but they were way out of my wallet's range, even with the plastic I carry. Image is supplied below:

Ah, the hot actress Ann Lockhart who played Sheba. Yes, what a babe. By the way, she is the daughter of June Lockhart, who played the mom on Lost in Space.

Thundercats sucked when it was on television, and it still sucks. Sorry, but I could never get into this show or its cousin, Silverhawks.

I don't know. I've watched the film about three times (one time being last night to be sure), and the end of the movie always leaves me wondering "What the fu--?"

I have 5 cels total. Three of them are from Gunbuster. Follow this link http://www.toponeraegunbuster.com/Gunbuster-Cels.html to see them. I also have a cel From Macross (Zentraedi male power armor kicking a VF-1A Valkyrie in the midsection from one of the later episodes) and one from Black Magic M-66 (Nice shot of Sybil in the elevator with the M-66), but they have been stored safely away for some years now as I have not framed them. As for the Gunbuster cels, if anyone out there knows of where to get more of them, let me know.

Macross Panel at Otakon 2005
Noriko Takaya replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
I'll be there this year also. I do not know about the time. I'll be going with my best friend's daughter and a gaggle of her friends acting as a chaperone, and they may get antsy and want to leave. If I'm still there around the time the panel opens, I'll come by and say "Hi!" Just look for the large sweaty fat guy everyone loves to make fun of coming for the table. -

Umm, looking to waste more time that I should spend working, of course. 318394[/snapback] I myself have been known to lurk around places to kill time. I once spent 90 minutes perusing Mandy Moore's site and actually liked it. Now you all can shoot me. -

I just saw this movie the other night on cable and laughed my ass off because it was so stupid. The Neil Patrick Harris part was great. And since I've seen this movie, it has made me want to road trip to Jersey so I can actually eat at a White Castle, something I have not done since I was a kid. The closest one to me is just under 200 miles in New Brunswick.

As bad as it is, I enjoy watching The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It's like a train wreck you cannot avoid watching. However, my favorite all-time bad movie to watch is Battle Beyond the Stars, a really bad Roger Corman film starring a young Richard Thomas as the hero who flies around in a spaceship which has breasts. Cheesiest movie I've seen, but definitely good cheese.
