  1. I think that they're even smaller than that. My thought is to get a good image of the design and then get one or two reproduced locally.
  2. Aha! So you're why they're sold out already.
  3. Sonoda's a great artist, but he couldn't write to save his life. He should stick to being a character designer.
  4. Dude, two of the club's owners are frequent posters here. I'm one of them. AreaSeven, who posts here quite a lot, is the club's original creator. Anyways, welcome to MW buddy! As for the topic of Gunbuster on DVD here in North America, it's been discussed to death over here too. One can only hope. And CD Japan finally shipped my new remastered set today along with my figures! Yay! Arg. I'm still waiting for mine to ship, and the figures are listed as being OOP.
  5. I remember seeing this one in the theater when it came out. I really wanted to like the movie, but it was just kinda meh.
  6. The trailer really reminded me of the Lost In Space remake for some reason.
  7. I disagree. I saw DYRL? years before I ever saw the TV series (or even any other Macross series, for that matter), and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Yes, there were nuances I missed, but I had no problem understanding the movie over all.
  8. While I disagree with your conclusions on 'magic' (it sounds like you didn't understand the show), I do agree that both of the main characters being unable to defeat the main antagonists was weak from a story telling point of view.
  9. How long is the soundtrack? From watching the show, I was disapointed by it. While Kanno's quality is as good as ever, there was a distinct lack of quantity.
  10. Bombay is an alternate for "B." Your notes on transfusions are interesting, because this raises the question of exactly what type of blood the shrine maidens had that they can't get a transfusion from anywhere else. I assumed the importance of the blood sample was genetic, but genetics shouldn't affect whether a blood transfusion can be done, outside of determining blood type. So either Mao's and Sarah's blood is outside of the human norm, or someone didn't do their biology homework. Saddly, I think the latter is a good possibilty.
  11. Alpha Bombay is just blood type AB using military radio speak. The point is that it's normal human blood. As for rocks floating (and all the other stuff), see my comments in my thread on comparing M0 to the works of Arthur C. Clarke.
  12. "Lord of the Flies in space" is the usual description I give it. Love the show. Especially with all the little back ground stories that go on through out it.
  13. But it looks like the head of the Astromech droid would get in the way of the wing folding inward though. Graham I think the droid is positioned forward of the wing.
  14. I'll take a look at those when they come out. They can't possibly be any worse than the anime.
  15. Not exactly production pics, but thought it was interesting none the less. Here are the 2005 LEGO ep. 3 sets: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=112317
  16. It was ever thus... its been estiamted that in previous conflicts, enemy action was third on the list of causes of crew/aircraft loss, behind accidents, and - most lethal of all - weather. For war in general, the 20th century was the first time in which actual combat became the main cause of death. Previously, more people died of disease and malnutrition in wars.

  18. I thought the show had a good plot and some really great character interaction. The show has a fairly large cast, yet the creators managed to establish a dynamic between all the various personalities. This makes for some very excellent later episodes as these various relationships and rivalries begin to mature (my favorite is the interaction between Basara and Gamelin). I hope I'm not breaking the spirit of the rules by saying that I also agree with what Father Jack just posted concerning Basara. He is easily one of my favorite anime main characters simply because he starts out knowing what he believes in and he's willing to act on it. In many ways he's the exact opposite of your typical anime protagonist, who is unsure of himself and does a lot of waffling when it comes to what they believe. He's also lacks a lot of the typical whiney-ness.
  19. Wow. There are so many joke possibilities here that I'm at a loss as to where to begin...
  20. Finally finished watching Macross Zero last night (been trying to catch up on my anime watching lately), and it struck me that the story very much resembles Arthur C. Clarke's "The Sentinel" and 2001: A Space Oddesy (the latter being an expanded re-working of the former). For those unfamiliar with the premise behind this short story and novel, basically aliens visit Earth in the distant past and meddle with our development then go away, leaving behind an artifact for us to discover once we reach a certain point of development (space travel, to be specific). The biggest twist on the story in M0 is that the artifact in question is apparently meant to knock us back down if we're still a war-like people once we achieve space travel (obviously the Proto-Culture weren't very good at practicing what they preached). The other thing that struck me is the use of Clarke's Law in the show. This law states that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." All the mystic mumbo-jumbo is just over technology, which is sufficiently advanced enough to not only appear like magic to the primitive Mayans, but to many of the modern humans as well. I thought it was well played by Mr. Kawamori (in spite of him slipping in some of his whacked out ideas on ecology). Anyone else pick up on this stuff? Anything to add or something I might have missed?
  21. protagonist (1 540 000 results) versus antagonist (2 320 000 results) The winner is: antagonist ----------------------- win (115 000 000 results) versus lose (46 300 000 results) The winner is: win You really can't win for losing. ------------------------ "good guys" (2 370 000 results) versus "bad guys" (3 290 000 results) The winner is: "bad guys" ----------------------- "buck rogers" ( 344 000 results) versus "flash gordon" ( 451 000 results) The winner is: "flash gordon"
  22. 'big west' (24 900 000 results) versus 'harmony gold' (2 470 000 results) The winner is: 'big west'
  23. I'll pass. I'm a huge Oshii fan, but the first GitS movie sucked.
  24. Already linked that about a half dozen posts up.
