It was ok as a filler. The finish print is not as refined as the actual option parts that came with the YamArcadia Valks. So it needs to clean it, sand it, prime it, and paint it. Which I haven't done on mine since 2013.

Thanks. Will wait and see what I will do.

If you paint yours, might need to coat it with suitable semi flat varnish to help reduce paint wear. Hope to see some photos of your before I find my set.

Ah that sucks. Missed it by an hour.

I saw the message here about 3 hours before the offer end but hesitated. Since I am still unsure about buying any of these KO yet. Saw multiple issues from reviews.

So I missed the discount. Regretted this now since the super/strike part should have minimum QA issue that matters.

I bought the side covers from Shapeways back in 2013. Probably the artist removed it from his catalog that's why it's not available in Shapeways anymore.

    How was the quality?

I wish this option is still available. Anyhow, there are not too complicated, if I am good at 3D design sw, I might be able to create one (having the time to do it is the blocker).

This all depends on how much you are willing to pay for those parts.  I mean, you can always try to contact ShowZstore and ask if they can sell just the option parts for you from their KO-vf-1 roy.  But you will also have to offer a good price for them to do so.

maybe if you offer them $40, they will do it for you.   B))

I have just ping them about this, didn't mention any price yet, just asking if it is possible.

$40 shipped is not too bad, will see what they say. Maybe it is not possible at all.

  5. @no3Ljm Thanks for the heads up. I will be careful.

I was about the buy some casting supply after viewing a few YT tutorial, then someone resurrected a very old thread and I found this :

I think I will try this out and see if it will work out well.

Still need the side cover, I think I might be able to wing it a bit with Fusion 360.

  6. @herlock99 did mention that he or she is very busy due to being a single parent for a 2 years old and might not have read the post from the MOD. Upon finding the thread deleted (and the MOD post can be read anymore), someone can get a bit upset and reacted by the opening post.

Others have broken the same rule and when the MOD gently reminded them, they react in time and things are ok. So this is not so different apart from the misunderstanding due to Herlock99 missing the MOD post.

If this new thread is edited to conform to the rule and avoid silent bidding, then I hope we can move on from that misunderstanding and move on with no drama.

PS: Herlock99 typed a very long post in the previous thread, that is lost now and any help to recover that will be a really kind thing. I would not want to retype the whole message and recompile all the info again.

  7. Thank you for your reply.

I brought this used. The seller is really responsible and makes things right. So I am not complaining.

Seems like buying them is not easy. Will try the Wanted section and see if someone is willing to sell for a reasonable price (what is a good price for this?).

I am quite keen to try out doing resin cast but have no idea where to start. If there is some material and setup that is not too costly to get into, I might want to try it out.

I also wonder if I do manage to get a mold done and can get half decent result, will there be a need for people that have the Yamato v2 for this?

How much will people willing to pay for a set of these resin recast parts?

Welcome to the club. Macross toy collecting is the most satisfying toy collecting I do. All the pieces are uniquely charming. If you never had one or don’t currently, I recommend you also acquire a 1/55 VF-1. Any release or variation will do, you just need to experience that toy and always have one on hand.

Will keep an eye out for one.

  9. Been a Macross fan over the years and had been building model kits. But have not been into toys. The Yamato lines seem attractive but the price kept me away all these time. Then I found out about the DX-1J.

Was really late so no luck with any PO. At the end when the review starts to coming in, I really wanted one. It looks so nice. So end up getting one from Mandrake. It arrived last week and it is fantastic. Since then I have these on the way: HMR max, 35th-Aniversary VF-1J

I have also just finishing a deal for Max+Millia super 1/60 Arcadia with a nice member here.

The flood gate seems to have been opened. :( Money and space will be a big concern. I am now officially a Macross toy collector.

Getting into toys is mainly due to me getting zero time to build model kit for the past decade. I need to get my Macross fix somewhere and the toy is one of the obvious routes.

Can't wait for all of my orders to arrive. :)

  10. I agree that the Hasegawa 1/72 are very good kits and value for money.

Does not harm to start with the Wave 1/100 kit (I have only built the VF-1A, and had a lot of fun producing result that I like), even though if you go slow, jumping directly to the Hasegawa kit is not impossible. You can always get support and advise from the good people here (or find how to instruction and video from the web).

One extra benefit if you choose to start with the Wave kit, you will be impressed with the jump in quality and potential result offered by the Hasegawa kits. That will provide additional motivation to work through the challenges they offer.

Whatever you choose, having fun is the key. Don't worry about building a perfect project from the get-go.

My birthday is in June. A Tomahwk in June would be great;)

Second that. Anytime this year will be great, but earlier is better. Been waiting for that since forever.

It is one of the first/second Arii models that I build when I was a kid.

yes! but am learning to tune it out! 8P

Haha, good trick. Safer and avoid a lot of hard work.

Probably be down to the toothpaste trick again to get rid of seam lines in clear canopies....but gee whiz...i dont have the time to do any of that...

That is what I am thinking too. I build models and that seam line just scream at me to sand it down and buff up again. Have to resist like seti88, but I know eventually I will break down and do it.

I sanded these edges, but if you sand too much they are going to be to lose

    Thanks for sharing and clarifying.

It is weird that the part that you sand away will cause it to not attach to the original yamato wing. Seems like the horizontal tab should be the one holding it in place rather than the vertical face. Anyway, I don't have the original yamato missile anyway, so I am more interested in 3d printing a pylon that will take Hasegawa's 1/48 missile set and attach them to the DX.

Can I trouble you with more photo from a few more angle so that I can use that to design my fusion 360 model? Thanks.
