It is what it is. Every online stores have their own policies.

I think my problem is that I am very complacent about returning items. Spoiled by Amazon US and other US online and physical store.

I have to be mindful of different policies when shopping outside of US.

Northern Virginia.  It was the UPS store. I agree it is crazy BS.

There were/are several factors. First, I just walked in to a UPS store, who of course hikes up the price.  Second, Amazon required DHL Worldwide Express for the return, no other method was acceptable to them. Third, they required it be insured for 25,000 jpy.  Fourth, the package is ever so slightly big enough to be classified for a larger size, and the default weight went up to 44lbs.

The UPS store's price was only slightly higher than DHL's website, which initially quoted me $279. I had the UPS store give me the weight and dimensions so I knew what to put in.

In the end, I used DHL's website to pre-pay for the shipment, along with a coupon for 25% off.  It still wasn't cheap and ran me just under $200, not including an automatic 20% upcharge in case I was lying to them on weight/size. This was the cheapest way I could find to send the package and still meet amazon's requirements, including asking a friend who works in logistics if he knew a different way, and calling DHL direct for some schmoozing.

I got an email from amazon saying they understood the shipping charge and would be refunding me the purchase price (including shipping it to me) along with a large portion of the return shipping. The rest of the return shipping would be on a amazon gift card, which will likely go to HMRs or Arcadia flight stands.

Wow..... From now on, I will consider very carefully when I buy any items from Amazon.jp.

I took a risk and placed my only order on the VF-4 with them back in November.  Economy shipping was 1,290 yen to the US.

Thanks for the info about shipping rate. Seems fair.

shipping rate is fair, you can add the item to your cart and when you check out you will see the shipping quote.

    Will do that.

I ordered 1 from Nin-Nin also but read on here that they may be sketchy, but luckily was able to get 2 at NY as well.

There's 1 left at Loopaza for pre-order at 119.99 USD

    Edit: annnnnnd it's gone.

Too bad. Will just use NinNin then.

HLJ cancelled your PO?  When was this?

I forget the exact date. It was a while back, at the same time I saw a few others complain about the same thing here in this thread.

  5. Just received a VF1A super.

I almost break the hand cover on the arm when I was holding the arm firmly (on the wrong spot) when trying to remove and insert a new hand.

That cover has very limited support under it so any pressure from the top will break it on the hinge.

There is now a visible stress mark at the seams near the hinge and it has cracked from inside. The cover was only hanging on with only less than half of the original thickness of the plastic.

I was lucky that it didn't break right through.

Gingerly pry it open and applied some plastic weld at the cracked seams and sort of weld it back together. Will ignore the stress mark on the outside for now (not super visible is you are not looking for it).

For good measure, I added some extra support to the inside seams by welding a small "beam" to that corner with the hinge.

Yeah, that's where I got mine.  Vintage Macross kits aren't great, but they're plentiful; I often buy 'em just for the decals.

Panel-lining and decals are fine, but weathering means abandoning the toy aesthetic entirely... and if I weather one, I've gotta weather them all.

Good point about weathering. Will be careful about going down that route. Thanks for the pointer.

Oh man, I'd forgotten how plain the Glaug looks without decals.

Awesome toy, though.  One of the crown jewels of the HMR line.

    Good score, kkx.  :good:

@tekering I blame you for the urge to panel line and weather this every time I look at it.

I have a few older 1/100 Glaug kit. Maybe that will be a good donor for some extra decal. There are tons of after market macross decal on ebay but not for the bad guys.

  8. Does this come with the clear plexiglass fighter mode stand/holder that is in the 30th-anniversary version?

Is there any way to buy those stand on its own? They are cool and easy to use.

It is such a simple stand if I can figure out the shape, might be able to DIY a few for my valks.

Just fyi... I just double checked my hlj order number for chuck's vf-31e and I'm guessing any number after mine will probably get chopped from the list:

    13901054

Let's not try to start an hlj witch hunt lol.

I guess I really shouldn't have tried changing my PayPal agreement payment type with them that night, it caused a delay with completing my order.... lol.

My order number is just a few digits below yours. I hope it will not be canceled.

  10. Just a heads up for those that still looking to get the 31E (but missed the informative post earlier in the thread), NY still have them.

If you are ok with NY and the 24,000 yen price.
