/me smells an I hate Matrix thread coming on. Thank the lord for Lord of the Rings. Purists be damned, LOTR is the best thing since sliced bread.

Its a difference between high pixel count and high aesthetics. FF was made to play on the ps2 and is already a year old, so the textures, while nowhere near inferior, are not as sharp as games that are appearing on the market right now. However, the Japanese aesthetics plus the signature Final Fantasy touch gives this game a much more pleasing look than most any mmorpg out there. Character designs, while limited, look a whole lot nicer than most, and environments are wildly creative and detailed with beautiful weather effects. I think the game that comes closest to this right now is Korea's Lineage II which is still a few months off. Oh, and I think Square wants to forget about The Spirits Within. It's forgiveable if you make a bad game off a good movie. Totally heinous to make a bad game off a bad movie. FF movie lost BIG bucks for Square, and most likely played a role in this whole new Square Enix thing. All I have to do is look down the street and remember that the tall building that once housed Square's movie production studio, and all my friends that are now in different lines of work after it closed down.

In addition to what Azrael said: My understanding is that the sequels (except Macross II) follow up on the TV series. However, the designs of the characters and mecha in DYRL are now considered canon. So. . . the answer is (I believe): Story = SDF Macross (TV) Appareance = DYRL Or, to put it another way, just imagine all the cooler looking mecha, uniforms, and characters from DYRL doing exactly what they did in SDF Macross, and you've got the canon "vision" of the Macross universe. I could be wrong though. H I have a feeling its a little bit more than just appearance as the stories seem to kind of mish mash together. I think in DYRL both the Prometheus and Daedalus were destroyed on earth and we see the Macross with the ARMD platforms while in the TV series, the Daedalus saved their asses more than once and even sent Hikaru to the hospital. ARMD-1 attack? I don't think so. It's been said before that DYRL can be thought of as a movie within the Macross Universe which retells the original story with some embellishment. However, seeing as how all other series are modeling themselves after DYRL rather than SDF TV, it might be better to consider the TV series as the fictional movie, and DYRL movie and game, as what really happened.

Well... maybe my question wasn't cleary enough... I would like your opinion about macross toys with low run. the pros and cons about limited editions toys. Why in the world would I want a macross toy to be made in such short supply that only people like Chan and Sithlord could buy them? That just defies common sense.

Yeah, but with one major difference. The shuttle had wings, stabilators, and a tail. So it would at least provide some of it's own lift. Now, if they added some wings or winglets to the Fast packs that could be jettisoned upon reaching space, then it might work. Of course, that may even be a moot point since you would probably have to empty the packs fuel cells to escape gravity anyway, so you would probably end up jettisoning the whole shebang . Oh well, Kawamori sama never claimed to be an aeronautical engineer, but he sure does draw a neat plane!. The packs aren't used to escape the atmosphere, it's those big freakin' mother boosters that it uses. I've never actually seen them in animation though, only in the Design Works lineart. I'm also sure Kawamori never intended for their usage within the atmosphere, thus you always see VF-1's jetison their armor before heading down.

What part are you talking about? The little rectangle-like area on the armor near the hands that is red in his pictures? If so, then I'm not sure if there is an "officially" correct color to start with, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. I think he's referring to the attachment mechanism on the FP for the pin on the Valk arm to snap into. Man... how nitpicky can some people get? Even the Hasegawas have that blue section. Live with it.

It's beautiful except I don't care for the nose. While it is an improvement over the original, the extreme length and symettric point makes it lose that beautiful sloping nose that I think is characteristic of the VF-1.

I think after the 1J, I'm all set for the VF-1 1/48 line. If they hit up an Ostrich or Elint, I'd be tempted to pull out Mr. Wallet though. I really want them to make the VF-4 and Macross+ valks though. Everyone and their dog can make a VF-1. I want to see Yamato make something the fans can really wet their pants over.

Red. Black looks like shazbot.

Heh, i need to read that book again. Read it maybe 8 years back and never appreciated it in my rebellious teen years.

Even after going through various threads and looking at different pictures, I'm still confused. I guess I should look at my manuals again. I haven't had FAST packs on in any mode other than fighter yet. Is the little dippy-do in the picture above the white piece that came with the FAST packs? Is it the FAST packs specifically that's causing people to rip off the Valk's backpack unit, like so? Partially that. Partially rough handling due to owners. Personally I think Yamato could have made that area a bit stronger, but with the right care, that area shouldn't break. Just remember when folding the backpack, push down on the backpack against the back. Do not push UP and try to force the backpack to sit higher.

And there's the solution kiddies.

I believe they are permanently affixed, but this really is a question for the off topic other sci fi thread.

A guy, some promise to go to Tokyo University, and a girl's dorm. Hilarity ensues. Somewhat.

yeah , I have it , my problem is that there´s no player that can recognise the format the files are in , they´re supposed to be Xvid but they also have a .ogm extention and whenever I try to play one of the files it gives me a ¨unkown format¨ message. Should I re-name them ? I don´t think that would help though. http://www.movieking.co.uk/guides/ogm.html

I don't know for sure, but from what I've seen from Macross Zero, once you go to battroid or gerwalk, throttle is controlled by the pedals instead of the throttle stick.

No. It's not. 4 or 5 ova's of pain versus an entire season of pain... How is that not better?

Dell Computer Sound Difficulties..
imode replied to DestroidsRage's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Best advice so far. Make sure the EAX is disabled, or not running some kind of funky Environmental Audio filter. The SB Lives came with a slew of simualted filters so mimic reverbs in different kinds of rooms, hallways, caves, etc. Of course it's always best to check first with the plug for the speakers. Did you plug it into the right hole? Did you plug it in correctly? That distant empty sound also comes from when speakers are not completely plugged in to its jack. After that, make sure you have the newest drivers for your sound card. Try to lock down the problem to maybe a specific program next. Try playing an mp3 in the old wmp6.4 then compare it with winamp. If they sound the same, then you know it's not your software or your winamp's equalizer settings. -
Ouch. Well you're really gonna want an animated gif to get the full effect of Lucy's... "bounce" The ending? Guld rams the Ghost but to do so, he has to do way more G's than his body is capable and he gets all twisted up in a rather gory manner. Ghost flames out and the YF-21 hulk coasts off. I don't think he actually rammed it in the movie. I think he just forced the Ghost to start moving fast enough that its hull failed from the heat generated. That becomes a very real problem as you get going fast. The modern-day Blackbird has some very unique engineering designs to keep its wings from warping due to the heat generated at a relatively mild mach 3/80,000 feet(corrugated wing surfaces spring to mind). While we don't actually know how fast Guld and hte Ghost were darting around, we know that the YF-21 was capable of hitting mach 25 in a straight run, since it's capable of achieving orbit under its own power and mach 25 is escape velocity. If I recall, the YF-21 actually DID slip back out into space at the end of the fight. I assume that whatver the YF-21 could do, the Ghost could too. They were hauling far more ass than is recommendable in an atmosphere, and they just danced in the flames untill one of them caught fire. And with the YF-21 being more aerodynamic, the Ghost went up first. Also possible is the Ghost just finally pulled more Gs than its frame could handle and it disentegrated. But all we KNOW on that end is that the YF-21 was pulling more Gs than its pilot could handle. And that's relatively low. Actually, he probably did ram it. That's why they show the BDI camera zooming so quickly in on the ghost right before you see the two little light trails "bounce" off each other with a shower of sparks.

What in god's name?! Okay, I may love Macross, but that's taking it one step too far...

Yeah, sock it too me, got gif..................I know someone does,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,maybe Ladic Damn, I think I wouldve liked to see that ending The whole guld getting twisted up part wasn't the best part of that scene. In the movie version, the ghost releases a ton of those high maneuver missiles and you watch the 21 do some absolutely INSANE moves to dodge them. To this day, NOTHING has topped that scene. Macross Zero tried to copy it, but the CG just makes it look like flying toys.
-
Okay, I'll bite: what are we talking about? A "pencil sharpener pilot?" How hard is it to fly a pencil sharpener? Pretty hard, I imagine. It's those little pencil sharpener toys that came out a few weeks back. One had a statue of Hikaru standing on top and its size is comparable to that of the 1/48 pilot but with much more detail.

Maybe you should be writing to Hasegawa for a 1/48 Super Ostrich. What's the point of making a high quality, big scale Valkyrie toy that doesn't transform? Because #1, I can't build models to save my life, and #2, the Super-O should have never been transformed in the first place. Disgusting....
-
You know, i wouldn't mind if they made a 1/48 NON-TRANSFORMING VT-1 as long as they dropped the price to $40 or so. Well, maybe a little bit of transformation... say... to the armless gerwalk mode. BUT NO FURTHER! I don't need to see another bastardized battroid mode.
