Topic title: "Is Yamato too greedy?" Who else is the "I" in the sentence referring to? If it's not the manufacturer, then you have to be clearer in the nouns you use. As in no pronouns.
-
You do realize that the manufacturer is selling at the exact same rate* to the exporter as they are to everyone one else inside Japan. All that perceived price increase is due to regular manufacturer>wholesaler>distributor>retailer costs AND import fees + exchange rate fluctuation. Of course the price is going to be more expensive overseas. The end consumer is, after all, the one who pays for the product to cross an ocean. If anything, the only agency applying a tax is your OWN government at the border and any taxes for purchases within your government's jurisdiction. Blame your own government for the tax increases, blame currency speculators for the fluctuating exchange rates. But don't attribute factors to the manufacturer that have nothing to do with the manufacturer. * Probably lower, if the quantity is significant enough.
-
How's that? The people who could afford them either can still afford them (they have their jobs) or they lost their jobs, and can't afford rent, let alone lunch. Or are you referring to the gray market outside of Japan?

Great Mechanics.DX7 is out, with a small article on Macross F. In short: ship stats! Yay.

Great. First mustard, now cigarattes. First, economies of scale (this is the 2nd time it's been mentioned by someone.) The per unit price of something manufactured in the billions is significantly less than something manufactured in the thousands. Second, cigarattes are heavily taxed. Though part of the price increase is similar, a huge chunk of it is totally different. Now, if we're going to insist on comparing the items to others, at least do it with something similar. The Beta Fighter is a good start. And what's that? Similar pricing, you say? Speaks volumes, eh.

Avoiding the fleets are good, but what if they come looking for NUNS/UNS? Aside from the Bodolza fleet of SWI, there's also: (cannon): Chlore fleet, fleet that took the Milky Dolls (Digital Mission VF-X) (semi-cannon): Neld Fleet, Marduk fleet That's a rate of one main fleet every 15 years (canon) or 10 years (semi-canon). Ouch :!:
-
Who said anything about the universe? The Milky Way galaxy is finite, and even if the chance is insignificantly low, it still increases.
-
Short answer: yes. Long answer: we haven't seen any indication either for or against the conflict continuing after it was briefly mentioned a couple of times in SDF:M. Given how long the conflict has been continuing, and the scale of the galaxy, it's extremely probable that it is continuing, and the chance of the UNS/NUNS coming across it increases proportionatly to the number of ships exploring and the amount of area explored.

If it's short and to the point it's: a) more likely to be read b) generally much more solid than a long-winded post citing unumerable references and cases.

Where are you getting your info from? Japan has a 5% consumption tax. See: http://www.nta.go.jp/foreign_language/statistics/tokei-e.htm (or http://www.worldwide-tax.com/japan/jap_other.asp and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value_added_tax if the official government page doesn't do it for you.)

About the Macross Chronicles
sketchley replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Given the quantity of material for SDFM and M7 (possibly MF, too), it's likely that they will take up more than a binder, each. The lack of material for the others implies less than a binder for each. Nevertheless, as the magazine is only planned out to issue 5, it's currently only going to be 5 binders. -
*cough* I was referring to HG monopolizing things *cough*
-
As someone else said (either in this thread or another) Yamato is not being greedy. They are not trying to monopolize the market with their variation of the toy. Any company that does try and monopolize the market IS being greedy. Hey, doesn't the USA have an anti-monopoly law?
-
I think this is more a case of "do it, or we won't sell to you" rather than "do it, and we'll litigate". At the very least, if the bluff is called, the consequences are immediate.
-
Ah! So that's where they came from. Shame that they were never printed in a book...

I'm finding in multiple sources that the VF-4 is 40% better than a FAST pack equipped VF-1. As what quantifies the improvements are rather vague, it'd be a safe bet to say that the VF-4 is at least the equal of a FAST pack equipped VF-1 in terms of speed, thrust and manueverability. That should give some numbers. Though, it also implies that the rocket thrusters are more akin to those in the FAST packs, and not used when the VF-4 launches for satellite orbit from the surface.
-
Awhile back MrMarch was asking about the rocket engines of the VF-4. I cited an article in Model Graphics No. 290 that states that the VF-4 has thermonuclear turbine engines, rocket engines, and ramjet engines. I've found confirmation on the ramjet engines: http://www.new-un-spacy.com/flashback2012/vf-4/vf-4-la3.jpg (Upper left image, text next to arrow pointing at open port on rear of inner wing fuselage. I also like the nuke symbol on the lower right nacelle image.) Shame that higher quality scans of these images don't exist...
-
You're thinking of VF-X2.

I've skimmed it looking for anything that mentions more than one Battle & City ship in the fleet, and I didn't spot anything. That doesn't mean that it might be there, nor does it mean that what we saw on screen needs to be reconfirmed by text. The rest of the article states that the fleet is composed of: Macross 5, Battle 5, Neo Noputi baganisi bis, and Stealth Frigate Zentoran type. All are non-quantified. Also, it's odd that there are none of the other big Super Long Range Emmigration Fleet ships (Factory, Science, Farm, Training, etc.) mentioned. Maybe it'll be clarified in a later sheet.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. "The Big Mac Index" is a static, imperfect generalization intended only as a guide. (That's both in my referencing it herein, and also it's use in the Economist.)
-
I understand your point, but my comments where aimed squarely at the socio-economic situation of the kid. I'm sure people in the Congo have better things to do with their internet access than complaining about how expensive Yamato's products are. VFTF1 - you're refering to PPP: purchasing power parity. For further insight on it, Google "the Big Mac Index". Sadly, as the content of this discussion is on an export/import item, PPP doesn't apply; other than in discussion on how comparatively expensive (or inexpensive) the products are versus the actual sale price.
-
If one can afford access to the internet, I doubt that one is living on $2 (USD? AUD? HKD?) a day.

Or a couple of weeks of mowing lawns/babysitting - stuff that any entrepreneurial youth can easily do to make a bunch of money in a short period of time. 2 years just sounds lazy and/or a spendthrift.
