Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
sketchley replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
Translation update: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2553.0 Best to start from the top, as I'm starting to split posts. Also, best to consider it a scanlation, despite the vast majority of it being proper translations. Anyhow, current angle of attack on the project: translation of only the titles, subheadings, etc, etc.. Some of the captions and all of the labels on the diagrams have been translated (usually going from the top down) completed (with aforementioned angle): pg 020-043 work-in-process: pg 044-059, 063~ virtually completed translation: 060-061 I'm really intested in completing the translation of the section on the Supika Incident. However, I'm going to hammer out as much of the "scanlation" as I can before I get sick of it. Cheers. -

pg 066 shows where the NP-BAP-15c Booster Units join on - the same spots as the FBF-1000A Fold Booster; neither the dorsal spine nor the stowed shield. -

I've been thinking that, too. It seems like they're covering the TV series' "hero" VFs. -

I'm going to refrain from speculating too much before more of the book (or at least the pertenant sections) are translated. For example, I have yet to come across a statement that says the packs remain on, or inverse, are jetissioned during transformation. Azrael, that sounds like the right way to think about the booster packs - huge initial attack, and then move in to mop up survivors. As for atmosphere - it's not clear what altitude. Is it the troposphere (7 to 17 km)? The stratosphere (50 to 55 km)? Or all the way up to the exosphere (from 350 to 800 km - well above the orbit of the ISS and average space shuttle mission)? -

Started a translation of the book. The NP-BAP-15c Booster Unit section is the only part presentable, and, amazingly, relevant to Graham's post: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2553.msg39003#msg39003 It hasn't directly stated how/where they attach (maybe in one of the later sections on the FAST packs/Super parts), but it looks like they attach to the "back", not the shield nor shoulder units. -

Anyone else spot the Uraga class carrier on the cover? -
From issue 4, GM.DX has had a Macross article in every issue. Issue, article name/contents, and location of translation (works in progress). I'll try to keep this updated as a TOC as new content comes available/is translated. GM.DX #04 Macross F and Variable Fighters; History of VFs: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2385.0 GM.DX #05 VF-25 Messiah GM.DX #06 MF article w/ VF-25 & VF-27 stats: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=1934.0 GM.DX #07 Frontier Fleet and that Military Vessel: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2454.msg36554#msg36554 GM.DX #08 Macross in general and how it relates to Frontier article GM.DX #09 VF Evolutionary Theory: VF Evolutionary Theory GM.DX #11 VF-25 Tornadeo Pack/Macross F movie Macross disappeared in #11, but returned, as a regular (?) column called MPM: Macross Pinpoint Mechanics. Each issue has focused on one part of Macross. GM.DX #12 Option Packs (FAST packs, Super Parts, Armour Packs, Fold Boosters, Sound System Options GM.DX #13 Destroids GM.DX #13, out today, has some goodies - more than expected. Beyond the MPM Destroid article (all Destroids, from all Studio Nue timeline shows), there's a rather lengthy article on Destroids. (Ie: cost, ability and performance compared to VFs). There's a decent sized interview with Tenjin Hidetaka, along with some downright old, but awesome looking SDFM trading cards - with Tenjin's notes about the art on them! This is followed by a two-page spread of the M+ VFs - sweet! (If I'm not mistaken, it's a Tenjin Hidetaka painting!) This is followed by an interview with the illustrator Morishita about M+, with a synopsis of M+. Later, there's a review of the Wave Tomahawk and VF-1J/S, and the Hasegawa VF egg. Summary: well worth picking it up, if you're a big fan of mecha anime (old and new), not just Macross.

Found it. On the laptop before the laptop before this desktop (and also on the desktop before that), I used this piccy as the background. Wicked cool website. Wonder what happened to it?

I'll play, too. You guys can play "guess that icon's function". It's Vista (don't get me started, as I'll chew your ear off with complaints), and despite how "slick" some of the graphics in Vista are, explanations of how to tweak them in English on the web rarely comes with pictures. Pictures are needed as, well see the other two attachd images: control panel and start menu. At least with XP I had a fighting chance of tweaking the PC. The Vista rearrangements are also why I quickly ditched Office 2007 for OpenOffice. Not only does OpenOffice have a familiar layout, it's in English! Boo! Microsoft! So, why the WinPlain? Well, I almost never see the desktop (defeats the purpose of this thread, eh? ) and all those (unnecessary) bells and whistles only serves to slow down the PC when I'm working on a couple of 600 DPI B4 sized manga pages in Photoshop. Also, it's the setting most like XP, 95, etc.. Which makes figuring out how to do something that much easier!

Maybe the planned for 60, maybe only 50. Maybe the 60 was "if we can get MF movie content, we'll do it", or maybe it was cut back due to declining sales (I don't have any precise numbers, but I know the local bookstore initially carried 7 to 10 issues. The last few, it's only been 2 or 3). Maybe if it was only 50, they planned to do it, but truncated the content to fit in stuff that they didn't realize was part of Macross (ie: the games).

True, true (nods). Though the thrust vectoring plates (the feet) can move, the thrust won't (unless PPB technology is employed, but there's no indication of that). Nevertheless, the VF-19 does have a visible alternate - the manuevering thrusters near the rear of the craft can compensate for any lack of horizontal thrust vectoring. Therefore allowing it to laugh in the face of any yaw issues. -
Which is something I REALLY dislike about the show. Stargate = using a stargate to travel, no? Looking back, I believe I dislike #20. Not for the decisions, etc., but because it just wasn't fun. Even the bloodshed was a little too much. Yes, it hammered home the "this show is serious" message. But it looks like the producers have forgotten why SG1 lasted 10 seasons and SGA lasted 5 - the viewers want escapist silliness! For serious stuff, I read the news. Anyhow, I don't think that the decision to surrender was "lazy writing" or "bad decision making". The show went to great lengths to make the point that there is a time limit, as well as that the "heroes" planned to double-cross the alliance. The show also showed us many times that Young's double-crosses don't pan out with the Alliance's leader. Therefore, what I didn't like about the ending was that it was predictable. In fact, the only thing that took me by surprise was what happened to Telford and the Alliance's leader.

Looks like it's down. Maybe code was accidentally overwritten or the file extension was altered?

Finished: MF Citizen 03b VF-25F Messiah http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2541.msg38935#msg38935 8 reaction missiles? wuzzah! Translation note: if it's not clear, the leg micro-missile launchers are carrying two loads (1 load + reload). I had a bit of trouble trying to find the right way to express that with the minimum number of words.

Guide to the Differences Between Macross & Robotech
sketchley replied to lebhead's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This one is a little easier to explain - the English translators didn't realize that they were translating a quote from the bible. Therefore, it was a literal translation of the quote. So the translation ended up being something like: English > Japanese > English. Nevertheless, the DVD that I have is accurate. Of course it's the Japanese domestic release, and not one made in another country for non-Japanese... (wish more domestic anime DVD releases were like it; as in English subtitles & dubbing options).- 72 replies

Plot twisting, plot twisting. Idisagree that it was a stinky one. In fact, it's completely expected - as in, ALL of the other Stargate episodes have had a cliffhangar between seasons. Nevertheless, I like the solution for the guy getting fried in #19. I'm not sure if those things work that fast, and in that exact way, but it's a logical solution and saves us from the more boring deus ex machina. When does the second season start?

Sketckley? Who's that? Anyhow, it's in the same pattern as all the other single sheet mechanical sheets.

Great Mechanics.DX #9 states: Therefore, the VF-19 series also has a similar function. Nevertheless, it'd still be a "sloppy, crabbing, non-aerodynamic turn". -

sketchley replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
I believe I read somewhere that the VF-19F is the mass production variant of the VF-19 (might have been MC, VF-19 Master File, or a Japanese Wikipedia article). Being space optimised doesn't mean all-regimes optimised. Whereas the VF-19S is, from information presented in MC, an all-regimes optimised craft. In that sense, it has improved performance. The VF-19 Master File also has images of the VF-19F with larger wings for atmosphere use. The associated text states that the VF-19F with those wings are used by emigrant planets where the craft are used pretty much equally in space and atmosphere. Therefore, the VF-19F and VF-19S are not limited to one regime. I'm not disagreeing, as it was speculation. Nevertheless, the net effect of the improvements are increased atmospheric performance and lost space performance. Size/weight issues aside, to me the increased bypass ratio makes sense. Nevertheless, no matter what real-world technology we discuss, it'll be wrong, as it's applying turbofan jet engine features onto a thermonuclear turobfan jet engine. -
It's consistant with the 311 on the VF-0A? Me thinks there's an in-joke with the numbers.
