  1. ... and where has it been specifically stated that there were no other attacks in Australia? The source material I've been reading states that local disputes occurred EVERYWHERE.
  2. Hold up a sec. I haven't come across anywhere that has said, clearly, if the return fleet was or was not armed (you know Macross... if it's not clearly stated...) How do we know it wasn't provoked? On the other hand, how would you react to your opponent amassing a large space fleet that, due to lack of knowledge/faulty intelligence, you perceived to be composed of reaction missile equipped space destroyers that are capable of striking any point on the globe? Like, the VFs and Destroids were specifically designed for anti-alien use, but their first application was fighting other humans and all that.
  3. And so is Nelson Mandela.
  4. Nope. Nothing relevant. Only thing coming to mind are thoughts on questions about the veracity of character dialogue (ie Capt. Global's dialogue in Global's Report about the SDF-1 being the booby trap vs SDF-1 is booby trapped) and later publications. The MC pages on the SV-51 might provide some insight.
  5. See if I can keep the answer short. In universe: the VF-4 is a dedicated space fighter. It doesn't need supplements to do it's main role any better. Future VFs are more general purpose - they need supplements to assist them in doing more specific roles (ie fly for a decent length of time in space). Out of universe: the VF-4 is the only main fighter that hasn't truly appeared in a major Macross production. As such, its technologies haven't needed to be improved upon or supplemented to defeat an enemy. Same is true for other VFs that haven't appeared in major productions, such as the 3000, 9 and 14.
  6. Google is just evil these days, isn't it?
  7. Correction: the MII timeline games HAVE a VF-4 with Super and Strike packs. HOWEVER, that was created before Kawamori-san finalized the VF-4 battroid and GERWALK designs for MDM:VF-X (which is what the VF-4G toy is based on). The creators have also explained why it doesn't need Super Parts. See here for starters: http://www.macrossro...g37738#msg37738 "Mass Fire" is a bit subjective, too. Super Parts were originally created for the VF-1 to compensate for lack of space endurance (read: fuel). As the VF-4 has more than enough internal space for fuel, it doesn't need FAST packs/Super Parts. The supplemental armour and munitions are just a bonus. The top image here has a VF-4 loaded w/ mass firepower: http://www.macrossro.../VF-4/VF-4.html On the other hand, one must keep in mind the role of the VF-4: long range interceptor. The charged particle beam guns and long-range missiles it has are more than enough to deal with opponents at range. Close in defence? Some sources have indicated that the VF-4 works in tandem with the VF-1, and the VF-1 covers that role (ie: mass-fire of micro-missiles). All that said, that doesn't stop us from making our own VF-4 FAST pack designs. Here's a set I made, about a decade before I learned that the VF-4 doesn't need them: Fighter: http://studiootaking.deviantart.com/gallery/142336#/d11d6a4 Battroid: http://studiootaking.deviantart.com/gallery/142336#/d11damm
  8. You know... there's one teeny tiny flaw with your logic: a) if the revised Macross history (M0, MF) is basically the same as that of SDFM et al, then basically the end of the Cold War never happened. The two sides in the Unification War are the Western (Democractic) Camp = UG and the Communist (USSR) Camp [not, not including countries like China and Somalia. If you have to ask why, then you haven't been paying attention during history class.] = AUA. or b) if the revised Macross history takes into consideration the end of the Cold War, then Russia is part of the Western (Democratic) Camp = UG, and China is the superpower behind the AUA camp. So, as you've indicated you're in California, you are in the right place to join the UG. [above posted so that other members can play along]. HOWEVER, and this is where it gets complicated and heads start exploding: are you the 1% or the 99%? (You know, We are the 99%. If you're the 1%, you're already a member. If you're part of the 99... well, the AUA is looking mighty appealing to you as the 1% ain't accepting new members (unless you're a newly rich.) (but wait, you say. The 99% is a post-Sub-Prime Mortgage collapse phenomenon. You're right. In this case it's serving as a real world example to illustrate the motivations for those that became the AUA. It also illustrates the divide between the rich... er, those with power that want to maintain their power by exploiting the technology of the ASS-1 for their benefit to, you guessed it, stay in power. Ultimately the AUA's motivation changed to a contest to decide who would be the rulers of the government that unifies all the nations of the Earth. Which, in other words, is indicative of what the Unification War really is: a revolution. The UG representing the old oligarchy fighting to retain their power in a new political economic paradigm, and the AUA initially opposing the change to the new paradigm and ultimately opting to fight to control the new paradigm. Head exploded yet?)
  9. See here: It's not the Unified Forces, but the Unified Government.
  10. Finished Timeline pages 11 & 19 (top blurb, titles, some captions and the right column time line). http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/portal/Chronicles.htm#Timeline Some of the extra reports are quite interesting. Such as Miss Macross Contents, the Opinion of the Unified Government, Kakizaki's Death (specifically the jinx), Minmei Doll and so on.
  11. That's true, in most SF. In real life, that's not always the case. Disclaimer: the above statement does in no way imply that any of the events depicted in Macross are real.
  12. See, this is where we hit a wall. As Gubaba said, the end is still unknown. As the war was a stalemate for quite a few years, there's plenty of time to be wishy-washy about which side will be the winner. Of course, there's always the 3rd option: join neither side. Of course, you'd still get run over by one side or the other...
  13. Agreed. GREATEST NAME EVER. One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. Was that guerrilla warfare against a legitimate government or a fight for freedom against repression? Suffice to say, the various portrayals of the Unification War do a good job at vilifying the Anti Unification Alliance - probably because they're the enemy - and don't do a very good job at showing the wartime atrocities that the Unified Government/Unified Forces has done back. Ah well, history is written by the victors as they say... EDIT: go off and do something else, and this topic still percolates... I've been wrestling for a term to best describe the Unification War. And try as I might, a civil war on a global scale is the best way to describe (yeah, I know. Shades of global civil war. >.< ). Nevertheless, this talk of guerrilla warfare reminds me of the point that it's not a war of country vs country or nation vs nation, but nations at war with themselves. Elements of each nation joined together forming the Unified Government. Their opposition in each country joined to form the Anti-Unification Alliance. So, did the Anti-Unification Alliance cause the guerrilla warfare? Yes and no. In the sense that the people who came to form the AUA did it, then yes. In the sense that the AUA order it to happen, then no. It goes back to the haves (have power) and those that don't being the two sides of the war. In the case of the US, states with power (= the haves) become the UG. States without power (= have nots) cause the guerrilla warfare and eventually merge/form the AUA. It's rather terribly complicated, and the more I think about it, the more I think I'll get a headache thinking about it. Which is why I think the creators have provided only the vaguest description of the Unification War...

  15. ... and that reason is...? Because they didn't have power (influence, money, whatever) pre-ASS-1 crash, and were terrorized and had brutal acts performed against them by the haves leading up to the ASS-1's crash landing? (Ie: Foxconn) Or the brutal acts committed by the Unified Forces against the non-supporters (never mind their political stripes), such as those that caused Nora's nasty chest scar? Suffice to say - it was a war. A civil war covering the Earth that lasted close to 10 years. BOTH sides did nasty things to each other (E.g.: Global nuking the hijackers that destroyed the Mars base return fleet... with a reaction warhead! Talk about overkill).
  16. Wow. (in a disappointed way) After telling ppl about it, AND having a discussion with TehPW about it, most people still aren't aware of the recently translated information on the subject. MW pages w/ discussion: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=28072&view=findpost&p=963923 ToC of translations: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/portal/Chronicles.htm Going back to the OP: I'd pick the Anti Unification Alliance (who's this Anti UN that everyone's talking about?) Why? Cuz they're the majority that are getting shafted by the haves, who have taken control of the investigation and development of Over Technology and are suppressing everyone else to their world outlook. Ultimately the differences between the two sides aren't that great. But the big plus for the AUA is that they're standing up for the rights of the majority that the haves are trying to silence! (AKA: sticking it to the man)
  17. Timeline #47: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/portal/Chronicles.htm#Timeline COMPLETED. Also went back and revised the previously translated content (same page, front). The nasty spelling and other errors have been removed, and it's been edited so that it's somewhat more comprehensible. Somewhat... All in all, it was a neat flashback to MF Eps 1... but not much that we don't already know.
  18. Timeline 01: finished http://www.macrossro...es.htm#Timeline when back and completed the page. Can't say that the information was entirely unexpected, as it's either directly stated or hinted at in other pages and sources. EDIT: also revised the stuff on Pg 47. The nasty spelling and other errors have been removed, and it's been edited so that it's somewhat more comprehensible. Somewhat...
  19. Wow. Did you actually read her post or the 2+ people that are in agreement with it? Lessee, from her post I got: dislike of fanservice done stupidly and/or blatantly. No where did I get the impression that all fanservice must be removed and/or that it is an unnecessary element.
  20. I'd pay if they had S. Jackson make a cameo just to say, "You sunk my $ucking battleship!"
  21. Finished Zero UN 01B: VF-01S Phoenix http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2876.msg43671#msg43671 All about the "Raid" version, AKA "Angel" version, AKA Special Attack-Assault Specification, AKA Kamikaze Assault Specification. The reactive armour and RA's relationship with the GBP-1S was interesting. Like an hors d'oeuvre. Whets the appetite, but leaves you wanting more.
  22. You're over thinking things. It was designed as an MSDF carrier. The closest we have is the proposed 45,000 t Houshou carrier. But as the Houshou was proposed long after the pre-production for Macross Zero was completed, it's highly doubtful that it'll be anything like the fictitious Asuka. Anyhow, it doesn't matter. The hole in the back is there for one reason: to fit the Aifosu in after it's recovered from the bottom of the sea.
  23. Question: how old is the video? The interviewees all say that the max cruising speed is classified, but greater than Mach 1.3 (or something). Yet the wikipedia article states Mach 1.6. I'm asking because impressions are that more information as been declassified than the video lets on...
