1. I gotta agree with what Yellowlightman said as well. Instead of just going out and riding the bandwagon in terms buying the hottest system that's out at the moment, I'll just wait around to see if that system has a selection of games that really captivate my interest. But I wonder if it' really worth it to buy a PS3 since it cost 600$ though. Sure, PS2 is better than the X-B0X in terms of game selections and X-BOX is better than PS2 in terms of graphics at the cost of having few blockbuster titles like HALO MechAssault and Sudeki. However, I'm thinking about getting a PS3 since all the other video game companies are all up on SONY's nutsack and as a result of this, these companies usually make all the good and appealing games and make me want to go out and get the system.
2. I mean you no disrespect Noyhauser and to all you guys, but this political piece of yours may cause this thread to be locked since we're swaying a little too far off topic. So if it's not too much trouble, is it OK if all of you guy's go back to the discussion of aircraft please? Thanx! Phalanx
3. Here's one fighter design, eventhough it's not a starship, it still looks viscous. From one of my favorite childhood TV shows, may I present to you, the Turbokatt from Swat Kats. And yess I went old school.
4. BTW, Flaming Gauntlet, I checked out your drawings and they were amazingly accurate in design! I liked that MSP rendition of the Super Sylph you did and that Blue VF-1 paint scheme. I can tell that you really were bored and had the utmost persistence and patience to complete those mecha drawings. I can't draw like that in paint and I was thinking about trying to draw mecha as a means to challenge myself. Also, as for yor avatar, I honestly thought that was a green VF-6 Alpha Veritech in Battroid mode from Mospeada as it turns out to be a mech from Armored Core. Keep up the good work!
5. I have 1 billion mame emulator games, but I didn't know there ever WAS a Macross arcade game! PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 401036 thenationnet.com Phalanx
6. The AL-31s in an Su-27 are roughly the same size as the TF-30 and GE110, physically they would fit. Though as Knight26 pointed out a while back the Russian engines use completely different mount points than American ones and thus still would take some work to be made compatible (I could see the Chinese being convinced to license a custom version of the WS-10 for installation into the ALi-Cats). 400730 Funny Nied, because the Chinese Chengdu Jianji-10 fighter actually uses that exact engine model known as the Saturn L'yulka.
7. I wonder if the Iranian F-14's had this same problem with their engines. This is the General Electric Pratt & Whitney model jet engine, right?
8. Aviation Chaalenge? I remember hearing about that camp 8 years ago, and I always wanted to go there. I wonder if it's still around though.
9. Well at least you'd make it as an American mecha designer. At least for awhile, because the way hollywood is going design-wise towards the smooth, flowing, and organic you wouldn't be employeed there long. 400596 My idea of practicality in the realm of sci-fi can be compared to, as an example, Gundam vs Macross in terms of believability. Macross comes off as believable scenario than Gundam IMO and that's the point that I was trying to make. I don't wanna be cornered in a style that makes no purposeful sense other to look like a retro takeback of by gone era. 400599 I also gotta agree with UN MARINE on that. Going back to my old thread that discussed the difference between American and Japanese sci-fi ship designs, Japanese starfighter ship designs look more stylish, sleeker, inovative, creative and feasible than compared to those cheesy retroish ship designs that you see in Western sci-fi flicks. Their looks inspired me to incorporate a more Japanese style of ship designs like what we see in sci-fi anime and in Japanese space shooters. To compensate, Japanese starfighter designs are more believable and creative than western designs.
10. Mna Knight26, those crash pics as well as tose crash videos or wicked. Especially that F-15 midair crash. The one that confused me the most was that F-14A explosion.
11. That's pretty good Flaming Gauntlet! I too can draw in Paint just like you, just as I drew Roy, Max. Milia, and Hikaru in paint. (See the Fanworks section, under pinned, hosting for MW fan creations) I have drawn lots of my own original jet plane designs in my notebook as well as a few mecha designs but I'm a little insecure about showing them off to others for fear that somebody may copy, but in the end, it may be just inspiration, not imitation, heh! It's also worth noting that I don't actually plan on being a mechanical designer as my future career. Hypothetically speaking, if I were to actually take up a career as a MD, I would have to be very flexible in terms of the types of vehicles I can draw. Since I most of the time, tend to draw jet planes, I hypothetically as a MD should fully understand that being one is not restricted to just drawing robot mecha since that's what Japanese MD's are sterotypically known to do. I try to go for drawing things like starships, tanks, helicopter's (I have drawn a few of my own original designs) cars, naval vehicles and etc just to prove that I actually got what it takes to be a MD and to prove that I'm flexible in designing any type of mechanical vehicles. Sometimes they don't turn out good because I'm not used to drawing these things but I keep trying though.
12. I was thinking about how good I am at designing aircraft, mecha and other vehicles so I had to ask all you other guys who like to draw; do you think you would make a good mechanical designer? I'd like to hear so Phalanx
13. That's a very good point Shin when you think about it, who really is going to get the best Typhoon variant? Since it was a colabo of Briatin, Spain, France, and Germany's aerospace engineers, it's hard to decide who may get this ultra variant..I just think that whichever of the 4 countries that is more than willing to pay an arm and a leg for it will get it. Unless they all decide to modify it''s avionics accordingly so that each if the four countries have a variant that equals each other and noone elses variant will surpass or outperform the other. Unless maybe they sign a contract that seals this seemingly logical deal for these "equal variants". So therefore I've also pointed out a disadvantage to having joint aircraft production projects; deciding on who gets the better one. That's just my 50 yen on the matter at hand.
14. No disrespect to you Kalvasflam, but I constantly keep up with the japantoday.com news to get insights about politcs when it comes to Korea/Japan relationships. I'm fully aware of my brethren's history involving their occupation of China and Korea during WW2 and I know that's why they still hate Japan hitherto this day. I'm not trying to go deep into politics with this one for fear that this thread maybe locked for it but the PM of Korea Roh Moo Hyun calls Japan's pride and nationalism a recipe for war and I think it's hypocrtical for them to say that when that's what they are doing to us. As you shouldknow, Japan is trying to ease tensions between S.Korea and China but these 2 countries are being exteremly stubborn and narrow-minded by refusing to understand their path to a peaceful and healthy relationship. That's why N. Korea is just waiting for Japan to slip and start war with them as well as China and S. Korea. For more on that visit japantoday.com As for my logical thinking about the game of war, how is it so off that sounds crazy? Everybody obviously knows that technology is what also helps in winning war in addtion to planning, strategy, subterfuge and etc. It's also worth noting that I honestly got my "logical thinking" from my grandfather who is a war historian and expert.
15. I gotta agree with Dave with this one about the Rafale being the Royal Navy's replacement for the Harrier as my reasoning is mostly due to the fact that it's a fighter/bomber and that was the role of the Harrier prior to it being replaced. Besides in terms of design aesthetics, I like the Rafale than the Typhoon because it's more streamlined than the Typhoons aerodynamic nose to fuselage area. However, with the JSF since it does posesses the trademark ability to hover like the Harrier, chances are that they might buy a few of these babies to supplement their Rafales.(that is of course, if they ever get them)
16. Yeah, it's good that Japan may be getting the F-22 to replace their F-15's for the years to come but due to high production and maintenance cost in the U.S, the Japanese may have to order a small number of F-22's to currently supplement their F-15's unless Lockheed grants them licensing and manufacturing rights to it. Like Nied stated many pages back in this thread, he had told us that the S. Korea was getting the F-15K for the sole purpose of trying to counter Japan's aging arsenal of F-15's, but it looks like Japan will be able to turn the tide to counter SK's F-15K with their F-22J's Chew on that, fuggers. I'm trying not to go into politics about this but since it apparantely appears that S. Korea is hankering to go to war with Japan, I feel that that's the reason why they chose to buy the F-15K instead of the Rafale, Typhoon, or Zhuravlik Flankers; they knew we have F-15J's and decided to fight fire with fire and even though our F-15J's are at a a slight disadvantage against them since their F-15K has an advanced targeting system as well as updated avionics and A2G capabilties opposed to our's that don't have it. It also worth noting that as you guys know, S. Korea constantly copies everything my Japanese brethren do probably to insult us and to try to be like us. Whatever we make or get from the U.S, they copy and that's what they did with F-15K. Even though S. Korea hates Japan with a passion, I just find it downright ironic and hypocritical for them to copy us. Sure, it would've been good if JASDF had recieved permission from Boeing to update the avionics in their F-15J's to counter F-15KS's but that will never happen anytime soon. Quickly going back to the fact of countering other countries fighter aircraft, by using the same type of aircraft you're fighting against is just downright retarded and the F-15K versus F-15J is perfect example of that. Why use the same type of aircfraft to fight agianst your opponent that has the same tye of aircraft you do, when the battle may result in equal kills in losses? Even if ROKAF is confident that their F-15K's can defeat JASDF's F-15J's due to the fact that they have updated avionics, that doesn't make their variant on the overall better than Japan's. Like Shin stated earlier, it's the pilot not the plane, that makes it the best. Even though F-15J's don't have updated avionics like the F-15K, it's still possible for the most experienced Japanese eagle pilots to shoot down Korea's F-15K's. If ROKAF is so obsessed with tryng to counter JASDF aircraft, they might as well buy SU-30's or SU-37's since they bost superior handling and dogfighting capabilites that would bring the JASDF's F-15J's to shame instead of buying the same type of aircraft we have. Note to S. Korea: You can stop copying my brethren in all aspects! And with ROKAF using F-15K's to counter JASDF's F-15J's, you're making it a fair fight. The U.S doesn't like to fight fair. We use technologically advanced aircraft to spar with other countries aircraft like the F-22 and JSF. ROKAF assumes that F-15K's will win just because of a small upgrade to their fighters. If I recall, if you want to win a war, you don't fight fair, you cheat and the U.S cheated and won wars by using stealth technology as well as other military technolgy against our adversaries.
17. Whoa Redsunn1, those Wing Commander ships don't look so bad after all. I really underestimated their appearance and learned to never judge a starship by it's design.
18. I consider the Nirvana from Vandread the greatest starship design ever IMHO. Also, here's a good one , Tom's spaceship from Toonami I can't also forget my favorite starfighter of all time, the beautiful R-GRAY 1 from Raystorm. GRAY03.bmpmi.
19. Thats scary as these countries are probably and secretly working behind the scenes to construct their own stealth aircraft to counter ours. That would suck balls big time if that were to happen but then again we are Americans and we'll always be far ahead of those other countries in terms of technology. Besides, the F-117 isn't all that effective like the Raptor so I'm not too worried about them having a sample of our Stealth technology, but if it weere the other way around with the Raptor or Spirit, then we can start breaking ish at the fact those Eorpoean countries have stealth capabilities and start cowering in fear.
20. Doesnt the missile lose track of the stealth craft once the doors close though? So how did the Serbs track the Nighthawk long enough for the missile to reach the target? I don't suppose the pilot kept the bay doors open that long? 399807 Funny that you mention that RTHTT, because why is the F-117's missle bays been configured to be opened manually just to launch the missles it has stored in it's bays? Since I play flight sims alot, I just honestly assumed that the missle bays of stealth aircraft immediatley close once a missle or bomb is released. I don't understand why Lockheed would cconfigure stealth aircraft to have a manual missle bay door release when they could have an automatic door closing system or something. For that matter, when firing bombs or missles from stealth aircraft, do the pilots have to remember to close the missle bays manually? If you ask me, I think that epitomizes why that F-117 got blasted out of the sky over Kosovo sevn years ago as Nied stated that the pilot must have forgotten to close his missle bay as it was left open and as a result of that, those troops on the ground that had manned those SAM launchers manage to lock on the Nighthawk and blow it out the sky. Unless there was slight malfunction with the missle bay door? Also, RTHTT, when you say that the Serbs managed to obtain a missle lock on the F-117, since the missle won't be a to track the stealth fighter once it's doors are closed, I think the pilot closed them at the last minute and as a result of that, it was struck. In addition to that, the Serbs may have been using nightvision to spot the F-117 in the air and that may have also played a key role in the downing of the F-117. So in the end, I think that stealth is effective at preventing missles from homing into stealth aircraft only if the missle is still far away from the aircraft and if the missle bays are still closed. I also think it's on par with ECM jamming pods in which they're only effective at preventing missles as long as they're far awy from you. So stealth is a passive ECM missle defense system and using actual ECM pods are active missle defense systems.

22. Not really trying to defend the funny-cigarette-smoking club of military planners, but... Is there really a need for the A-10 any more? The A-10 is a close-support aircraft that hangs dozens of ordnance under its wings. In a Warsaw Pact era, when it is expected that a massive armour thrust would be the main attacking force -- divisional level armour, perhaps? -- such stopping power is absolutely necessary. You need to break up that armour wedge as early as possible. But nowadays, it's really rare to see armour in that concentration, as far as I am aware of. You still get armour, but perhaps in regimental or lower strength. And given the other multirole aircraft currently available, do we still need something as, well, excessive as an A-10? Can we make do with smaller aircraft carrying less ordnance? After all, it's pointless to go to war if the war would bankrupt you even if you win... Just to note -- I like the uncompromising brutality of the A-10. Nothing like pointing a 30mm gatling at someone to get the point across. But it might be a tad excessive... 399732 I think the A-10 is a still able fighter as it can still get the job done. I like how it's 30MM gatling gun sounds. But the only downside it has is it's speed as it can only go 439mph, which is slow for a typical attack aircraft. Sure it would be good if they refitted it with some afterburning turbofans than it standard engines and the A-10 will be truly called the 'thunderbolt" as it's supposed and hypothetically installed jet engines will roar like thunder and it's bomb will explode as loud as thunder but that will never happen at all eben though it would be nice. The "flying tank" is a unique aircraft and even though it has been also dubbed the ugliest plane in the world, I think she's a beauty that is not to be fugged with.
23. You serious? I was just trying to help you out Unless you weren't expecting a title that's not to cheesy?
24. Funny, because that same technique was used by that Vietnamese during the Vietnam war era as they turned off their radar sites to avoid missles launched by F-105's hitting them.
