1. Some of my favorite eps were: 1) the episode where Cartman is acting like a police officer riding his big wheel ala the Cops Tv show. 2) They boys have to write a group book report and Cartman keeps trying to enact a flashback to the past 3) The Simpsons did it episode 4) The episode where Timmy Catches Jimmy taking steroids to win the special olympics, with cameos from Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi and Barry Bonds
2. Speaking of reviews, there was a article in todays business section stating that in a JD power associates review that the US automakers have seen better 3 yr performance reviews of their cars than the European automakers. They get fewer customer complaints and recalls over this 3 year period. They still trail behind the Japanese manufacturers though.
3. I think they will restock the Hikaru VF-1J. Its rerelease should be in time for the release of the GBP armor.
4. HLJ probably ran out of their initial inventory. They did put the Fast packs up for preorder.
5. I think that you make some good points. Your points about the depiction of beauty are spot on. I think there is some slight evidence that this may be changing somewhat though. Jennifer Lopez usually is tops in worldwide polls for the sexiest woman alive. There aren't any famous white women that are built like her and paraded around as being sexy. Different cultures around the globe have varying standards for physical attractiveness. Stereotypes will always be very intrinsic to the human condition sadly to say, But I still am missing your point about Mr. Universe. How did the character 'Jew it up' as you say? You still haven't clarified how Mr U. did this. I failed to see how he portrayed a Stereotypical Jew as you say. If they made the character a lawyer, and he was plotting against both Mal and the Alliance to come out ahead to serve his own interest, then I think you might have a point. None of the characters in the film are truely good in the classical sense. I think he was a stereotype of fanboy types that live with their parents, have no life and the only women they get are those in magazines or inflatable dolls. The whole breaking the wedding glasses to me demonstrated how much this fictionalized world is similar to our own. People in the future still cling to long established cultural traditions. I think Zoes reaction to her husbands death was totally warranted. I don't care how professional you claim to be, if you see a loved one killed or injured you are going to react. Wash was her future. You can argue that she no longer had a reason to go on. The movie and series est. the notion to engage the reavers is worse than suicide. Besides, her character was simply responding to the situation that was dealt to them. It wouldn't have been her fault if any of the crew were killed. Everyone knew that they had a very slim chance at best to survive the situation. On the other side of the Hurricane analogy you used, were documented reports of N.O. police officers who failed to show up to work b/c they were too busy worrying about their own families. Why do think there are so many reports yr and yr out of seemingly normal soccer moms and dads going apeshit once little johnny or sue gets hurt or shafted in a sporting event? People have a tendency to lose their minds when family is involved.
6. Hmm, i dont know about Smallville, but if u r talking about the Kristin girl from that show, well, she is way too hot to compare to the chic from Serenity. But i guess someone may see how they can be sisters. 334941 Yeah Kristin Kruek is who I meant, I forgot her name. I agree Kristin is way prettier, but I stilll think they resemble each other. Their hair and facial features share some similarities with each other.
7. I just got back from seeing serenity and I absolutely loved it. Great mix of action, comedy, and drama. This was the anti Star Wars. Great way to wrap up the series. I think there is still alot of material left on the board if he wanted to return to it. But who knows, I think his slate is pretty busy between a Wonder woman movie and writing a second run on Astonishing X-men. I'm going to finish watching the last two dvds this weekend and probably buy my own. No one does dramatic/sudden deaths better than Whedon (Buffy's Mom, Doyle). I was really saddened by Book's death. I wanted to learn more about his connections to the alliance. I think it's somewhat obvious that the character probably became a sheperd in the first place to possibly make amends for sins/atorcities in a past life. Joss seems intrigued with reformed/ redeemed characters. In regards to Mr. Universe being Jewish, so what if he is. I didn't see any negative stereotypes with the character(except those aimed at excessive fanboy i.e. comicbook guy types). I applaude Whedon's use of ethnicity throughout the series and the movie. It shows so insight esp. considering our ever changing demographics. Hollywood often forgets this fact when making films about the future. Does anyone else think that the actress that plays Inara resembles the actress from Smallville? I think they could almost pass as sisters.
8. I got a DYRL Max in my set. My first chase figure out of all the three collections.
9. great work so far!! I can't wait to see the finished model.
10. Very good point about the rape. Very reminescent of the Abu Grab Ass pics that came out. Overall what a great episode. I too feel that there is something fishy about the pegasus and its crew. Maybe the entire crew are toasters.
11. I got mine today. Were there not any clear haired versions like collections 1 and 2?
12. Thanks for the info GC. Looks like non transformable toys.
13. Atleast he tried to help. But he should've hired a experienced captain to pilot his ship. You'd think he could have found plenty of experienced fisherman in the area that have piloted the ship.
14. Those are both sick. How much is the Foose Design going for? But I think I like the cevinis a little better. The Foose has better wheels. They make really good body kits. I love the 99-04 stalker kit.
15. Just wondering if there is some reason behind this. 325983 Because people and their lives are cheap. It's the whole "it won't happen to me" mindset. They put their priorities on more immediate things, rather than hypothetical things. It took how long for predictions of NO being flooded to come true? Quite a few years, and each year it didn't happen, so people thought "it's all good, it's just a hypothesis. There's no real danger." What is really bugging me is the animosity a lot of black and non-black people are showing towards the situation. There's calls of racism because of a slow response. I've from travelling that the only country I've been to that there isn't this animosity from blacks towards whites (and whites that are super-PC) is Brasil. There isn't a big chip on everyone's shoulder, ready to blow up over perceived racism. The black people there are really secure about themselves and their heritage. Hell they had a magazine called "ni**er" magazine, to celebrate and be proud of their culture! (left out some letters, so no one jumps down my throat). I just can't believe that there's such racial animosity in people who are in this crisis. I was reading in an article how some black people thought that the government flooded the black areas of the city to keep white homes from being flooded! 326030 I think your right on some points. I think complaceny and this "its happened before and it wasn't such a big thing then " mentality was present in alot of peoples minds. Some have stated that they didn't think it would happen to them. Just looking at all of the offshore casinos that were destroyed off the coast of Miss clearly indicates that they really never thought a Hurricane would destroy their locale. But I think you've clearly missed the boat on the whole racial component of this tragedy. Race is a clear subtext in the tragedy, but its not the story. NO is roughly 2/3 african american if I remember correctly. Therefore most of the people that were going to be hit were going to be black. If most of the city is black that stands to reason that most of the poor are going to be african american as well. Mostof the issues are breaking down along socioeconomic lines. If you were middle class to rich you probably got out of the area before the hurricane. If you were poor, elderly, sick chances were you didn't get out of the area. Many of those that didn't leave, live paycheck to paycheck and alot of them didn't have transportation means to pick up and leave. So in short there should have been better public transportation options to those that didn't own cars, and SUVS. Joe Scarbarough(ex congressman) said on his MSNBC show that some of the areas that were hit in Miss some of the people there were so poor that they couldn't even afford to pay for gas to fill up their vehicles. Anyone who's familiar with Mississippi knows that isn't a far fetched reality. The ex mayor of NO said in 98 (I think it was after Hurrincane Georges) they did polls afterwards to see who did &wouldn't evacuate. 50% responded that they left, 25 % went to the superdome, and roughly another 25% stayed in their homes. That being said there was data to show a significant portion of the population was going to be left behind in a future Hurricane. The anger or animosity issue you touched on is misplaced. Those people have lost everything, So I think that entitles them to be angry or experiencing a whole myriad of emotions. I'd be angry too if I were in a similar sitaution especially considering the fact that all levels of govt failed to protect them in such a extreme manner. The sole purpose of any govt is to protect its citizens, which clearly did not happen. NO has one of the richest/greatest black cultural histories in the Americas. So I don't think for a second that the people there are pissed off because for some reason they are insecure about their culture. Which you seem to impy. Any black person living in the deep south can tell you that their racial experiences can differ dramatically from their white counterparts in this day and age. It seems to me that they were pissed by the complete incompetence of the response to the situation. This morning I heard reports of taxi drivers that were picking up whites but wouldn't pick up blacks.
16. I heard a flood expert speaking on MSNBC this morning, He said that the cost to fix the flood situation properly would cost around 14 billion. Thats around the same figure for Big Dig in Jersey. He also said the real problem is that with our over consumption of fossil fuels, lack of wetlands, and global warming which is causing rising coastal lines --coastal cities around the globe in the future will have similar problems that NO faced.
17. Vastus if what you say is true then I think I can speak for everyone here in saying that our hearts go out to you and your family. We should all make donations to credible relief agencies. That being said, I have to agree with the others in stating that this isn't the proper forum to be asking for donations. Many people on this site have been victims of recent fraud and I think you would agree that should make anyone leary of request for money. Especially since there have been many documented reports of people using the tragedy as a ways to take advantage of others natural desire to donate money and to rip people off. I can't say I could even begin to fathom the situation you and your family are in, but to angrily lash out and pointlessly name call the very same people who you elicit for help isn't helping your cause at all. Do you know for a fact that members of this site haven't already or plan to make contributions? Not being completely familiar with your situation, I beg to ask what if any good you can truely accomplish by going to a disaster area where they are trying to evacuate people. You would merely be consuming the same resources that could be used to help those that really need them. Where would you stay? Where would you get food, Gas, Etc? Are the roads acessible to you?
18. Preach on. Whats so sad is that its our leaders that have left us in this precocious predicament. The Middle East oil manufactures have the US president in there back pocket. The presidents solution-- Drill in Alaska . You gotta be kidding me. And it is someone of that stature that should've been persuading the public and private industry to devise inventive ways to lessen our dependence upon foriegn oil. But alas we no longer have true visionaries dictating our domestic and foreign policies. I think it is going to take several different things to lessen our need for foreign oil. Unleaded here in Austin is about $ 2.69 to 2.79 a gallon.
19. I can understand people looting for food, Medical supplies, clean clothes , necesseties of life, but other than that no way. The situation is worse than the news is showing because there are corpses floating everywhere. In NO they don't bury the dead in the ground. Also all of the water that people are travellning through is contaminated with sewage.
20. Awesome display 1 VF-1 2NV!! How did you do the screen captures from DYRL? I love the flying valks in formation.
21. Great work Cap!!! Once its finished, the only thing it will need are Helo and Boomer figures.
22. I think you make some good points MJ, but this is a fictional show in a made up universe. So who's to say that the pilots in the show aren't trained in some of the same tactics and manners as the marines in the show. But I agree that it would be cool to have more marine characters (cannon fodder) introduced in a weekly basis. It would continue to have the viewer on the edge because the viewer wouldn't know who's going to get knocked off from show to show. There was HBO show called OZ that did this effectively in its first 2 seasons.
23. The ones I watch since I no longer have the Speed channel (in no particular preference): Rides Car and Driver Horsepower TV Overhaulin American Hot Rod Street Fury Formula D Bill Goldbergs show on History Channel ( I've seen only a few eps) Funkmaster Flex's show There is another show that airs on History Channel as well, where two teams compete by building a muscle car, then they race the cars on the track. The winning team gets ownership of both cars.
24. Hey did J. Michael Straczynski ever work on Thundercats? I heard he did some work on some 80's cartoons.
