New Macross Animation Announced, to be animated by Sunrise
TG Remix replied to seti88's topic in Movies and TV Series
You mean more than just dog fights? Because there were a decent amount of Valkyrie fights even though they leaned more towards the Fighters than fights with the Battroids. I'd keep my hopes down for that, unfortunately. The only other animated series that went back chronologically was Zero, and that one was a very special exception compared to how much Gundam goes back to the OYW and CCA-Unicorn era. Even side materials like Dynamite and The Ride usually take place a few short years before or after the main series they're jumping off from. -

There are pacing issues to be sure but to say no conflict is resolved is...Not true? By that logic that can apply to Macross 7 or just 90% of Gundam as a whole and not G-Witch specifically because the biggest conflicts are dragged out and really only resolved in the final few episodes. "Things happen until we go after the giant space fortress" essentially, and that's also pretty much a lot of "Space Road Trip" animes from the 70's and 80's if you really want to stretch it. -

I feel like calling it "plotless" is a overstep despite its flaws; it's just not doing the regular Gundam formula (which even by Seed and even by Zeta got kinda tiring) and that's fine. With that said Kawamori will easily be involved with some of the planning, and IIRC writers for anime aren't bound to one studio at least back then. Many of Macross Plus' development team later did Sunrise's Cowboy Bepop a few years after. -

The more I think about it, the more I realized that there's a surprising amount of mind control throughout the franchise. Plus had Sharon mind controlling the city, Protodevlin brainwashing people for the Supervision and Varauta Armies respectively, Frontier had Galaxy's plan to make the galaxy into a hive mind, and Delta following suit. Then again the standard was set with the Zentradi essentially being programmed for war and not to interact with culture/miclones. Wondering if there's more to it in-universe than just coincidence and repeating themes. -

That political movement being the Neo-Zentran one, right? iirc that one was about reviving Zentradi warrior principles. I assume that kind of movement would only pop up in more completely pacifistic parts of the UN if everywhere else was more focused on actually increasing defense against Zentradi. -

That is true, though 7's obviously Zentradi characters (Veffidas, Macross 5 fleet, the rioters when Sivil entered City 7,etc.) usually shared a duller green and/or blue skin color, though that might be the DYRL influence. Frontier's a 50/50, sometimes they more or less look like regular humans, other times they have hair they can have emotionally displaying hair or even have orc tusks. At least there I can tell they had a lot of fun. 😁 That's just anime being anime at that point. 😝 There's also human characters with technocolor hair as well. To continue my train of thought, maybe Zentradi-only colonies started from a domino effect when Earth banned giant sized ones in 2030. Does make me wonder if Exsedol was a miclone or giant prior to the Macross 7 leaving to earth; he sure adjusted to the latter much more after the first series if anything. -

If I can nerd out about my favorite group of jolly green giants yet again, it's always interesting to me whenever we see some insight of Zentradi amongst the UN. There's something about seeing giant Zentradi coexisting with miclones that always gets me giddy, whether it be the small snippers in SDF and 7, or the entire district from Frontier. Not to mention how there seemed to be a divide between the factions of the Zentran who willingly fought with Britai and those who reluctantly joined like the 33rd Marine Battalion. Many colonies either seemed either more human focused or mainly be mixed in races; so Macross 7's throwaway lore of Zentradi colonies apart of the UN always fascinated me. so I kinda wonder what kind of a "Zentradi culture" that could come up after the First Space (specifically in UN governed areas, otherwise we'd just have more Zentran rogues wanting to be completely warlike again, lol.) I remember people scoffing at Veffidas' "Street Fighter" like backstory about wrestling all over the galaxy(?); turns out Zentradi wrestling was a concept all the way back in the 80's! 😆 -
You know, that makes...Significantly more sense. I either remember hearing the Zentradi bit either from here or Macross wiki (Which currently calls him one despite having no mention of being taken in by Zentradi)....I should stop going there for any reason aside from pictures, lol.

So there's something I get confused by. iirc Gamlin was said to be raised by a Zentradi family in a Mars colony, which I assumed that a Zentradi family adopted him after his parents(?, I think that's what that's what the funeral from P*L*U*S was for) became no longer apart of the picture, and also explains his more militant (and loveably dense) personality. However I've seen some sources that say he's Zentradi as opposed to being a human, so I'm wondering if its just a mix up or simply an assumption from his backstory.

So going through some Macross side stuff for reasons, and I'm reminded that Macross Generation exists and so does Canary Minmay. In the plot synopsis she's said to be popular enough to be considered the "Second Coming of Minmay" (Which kinda on the nose considering her name, lol.) Since I've seen no full detailed summary of the plot, I've kinda gotten overly curious and wondered if she adopted the name "Minmay" as a stage name of sorts, or if she's related to a clone of the idol perhaps? Or maybe Generation's writers were just being as transparent as possible with the connections. 😛 -
I don't think there has been a in-universe explanation, but I can only assume it's not only to match with the change of the NUNS logo, but to differentiate them from enemy/antagonist Zentradi so the NUNS wouldn't be shooting their allies down.

Are you referring to the symbol Temujin and the rest of the NUNS Marine Zentradi in Frontier wore? Yeah I did notice that, but at the same time it feels like a one time thing since iirc Delta's Zentradi has the original emblem and Plus also had it when Earth was holding it's ceremony before being crashed by the climax of the plot. EDIT: Was mistaken; the Zentradi garrison from Delta also has the Frontier Zentran logo (apologies, couldn't find a better picture on hand.) Maybe it was a logo that also changed after the Second Unification Wars?

I had a feeling it was fanmade. Though on that topic, even though I heard that the VA-14's name "Hunter" was fanmade, it did appear in the Japanese Wikipedia and other Japanese sites. So now I'm wondering where did that name come from? Okay wow, Kamujin really meant it when he said the worst thing that happened to humanity was giving Zentradi the ability to build. And all that from a VF-11 stolen a decade and a half ago. But yeah it's unlikely they'd go for it in that case considering the VF-22 is kinda Zentradi enough for a stupidly high performing Valkyrie. I'm assuming Timoshee got one due to the Critical Path Foundation basically being Macross' Anaheim? Considering how the factory where the Stealth Regult and Stealth Glaugs were blown up in VF-X, I'm starting to think the Variable Glaug ending up in UN hands was a once in a lifetime deal. Though considering the Feios made it into Black Rainbow a few years after it's possible their plans also survived for potential rogue Zentradi to use again.

Thought he was talking about Hikaru that time considering the encounters he had with him before iirc. Either way Milia had one heck of a surprise and gave us one heck of a memorable battle. I was referring to the gunpod/rail rifle, but nice confirmation that it's a Fasces exclusive Valkyrie...Battlesuit, thing. Though considering that it's part Feios Valkyrie I do wonder two things about it; if one could theoretically be another Variable Glaug situation where it could be captured and repurposed for UN use, and if its designated number "Fz-150" if official or not. I see it being used quite a bit, but I haven't seen it in citated material. Speaking of them, iirc they also used Varauta Army Valkyries as well due to them having the Protodevlin Factory Satellite. I can assume even if until at that moment Elgerzorene's, Panzerzorene's, and Saubergeran's would be a non issue in the grand scheme of the universe, I would assume they'd be illegal as all hell due to their Spiritia absorption beams.

Kinda like picking your poison; want to have a lot Queadluun Rheas? You either can but not nearly as fast and safe or the same armaments but in a (slightly less) cramped cockpit of a Regult, lol Was mainly curious since the frame of a Rhea was used to make the Alma, which to this day I still wonder if I even should even call this a "transformation:" On a side comment, it actually looks somewhat normal when not flying, but it feels weird seeing a Queadluun unit wielding a gunpod. Wonder if there's any technical info on it, or if it even appeared in previous material. It is confusing how despite being very Rhea-like it's described both as if it came from the Stellar-Republic era and was something Rogue Zentradi thought of. Geniuses are just built different, what can I say. 😆

Just throwing this question out there, though it's more of a "fanfic-y" type one. Considering the Queadluun-Rhea is a updated Rau with even more high performance and pilot survivability, could the Queadluun-Nona theoretically be given Rhea-like updates without repeating the same production and maintenance snarls?

Oh right, I can see it a lot from the beam cannon and head. As someone who really loves the design, I'm wondering why Kawamori decided to give one for the Neo Glaug's predecessor when he didn't before. Maybe to focus on the Gerwalk/Glaug more in that sense? For some reason this reminds me of the Regults with UN markings in the Master File. It looks nice on them, though I think in official material most NUNS allied Zentradi still don the old Zentradi symbol. Strange...I read that the city Isamu and Guld fought in when they reached Earth was where cloned colonists lived in prior to be launched into space in emigration fleets. And once Mass Cloning ceased in 2030, the city became abandoned once there was no need for it. Could've sworn I read that somewhere- <TVTropes. ...I feel like that explains it all in of itself. 😅 In my defense it was where I learned about the Mass Cloning within the franchise in the first place. iirc some colonized worlds like Ouroboros and the Brisingr Globular Cluster has Protoculture ruins just lying about, though I'd assume not all of them were as potent and potentially dangerous as those were, so in regular cases it does make me wonder if they'd be left alone and/or be the suspect of constant research from the UN if they're just standing there like Planet Rax's ruins and Altira.

That makes sense, probably explains why the Feios Valkyrie is so flat in it's Fighter form. I do wonder where does the pink/red coloring from the Mech Manual came from? In both VF-X games they're green with yellow and grey highlights which makes it a lot more traditionally "Zentradi" like, but the other one doesn't appear at all. Right? From official setting material It's described as florally and biologically the same as Earth, just slightly larger. It's not like those abandoned clone cities in Plus where you can connect the dots on why they were abandoned (mostly Earth being a less viable place to live in overall, and the whole Mass Cloning thing going wrong.)

I believe the Stealth Regult, Stealth Glaug, and the other enemy units from VF-X was also redesigned and upgraded mechs from Zentradi dissidents like the those two, or do they have some backstory I'm not familiar with? I also wonder who designed them, they look very angular compared to most other designs from Kawamori and Miyatake. Better then nothing at least, heh. Though still funny to me that the Nousjadeul-Ger has kinda been left out in terms of given improvements; I remember someone speculating that the Regult Type 106 was basically a more "cost effective" version of a Queadluun-Rhea since the battlesuit is expensive as is and Regults are practically everywhere, and thus made the Ger type battlesuits obsolete. Least they live on as the shoulder cannon on the Rhea type. It does bring the impression that most if not all of the UN/NUNS Marines are made up of giant Zentradi, or at the very least a frequent enough in modern material (i.e Frontier and Delta) to typecast them into the position. Also with supposedly high skill since those two have been compared to the best valkyries of the time (Neo Glaug to the VF-19/VF-22, and the Rhes/56 to the VF-25.) I don't think we gotten a good scale on how much the former in numbers was mass produced, as both the Variable Glaug and the Neo Glaug, Does make me wonder if any other branch of the NUN military would use battlepods and/or battlesuits alongside Valkyries, probably in lower numbers but a interesting to wonder about.

As if the man would wanna fly anything that's not a VF-19, lol. I know there's a YF-29 with "Isamu colors, but let the joke play out A bit more interested on how would the transformation look for the new designs. I don't think we're gonna go back to the more rounder and/or bulky design aesthetic from Plus/7, and Delta's designs were very derivative of Frontiers as much as I prefer the latter's designs overall. -

Probably not much, considering it was such a solid design it had the moniker as the "Varja Killer," so it had both the power and speed for potential colonies and fleets. At most I can see just general improvements on the design, like the VF-14D and VF-19F were to their initial production runs. -

To be perfectly fair we're supposed to believe the Feios Valkyrie (from the VF-X game series) came from the VF-11 prototype in 2030 despite looking closer to the VAB-2/FBz-99G. -

The Megaroad-class were the first of the Long Range colony ships that were used for the first emigrant colony fleets, the Megaroad-01 was just the first of its kind and the most infamous due to its disappearance and connections in Delta. The planet which the Varauta Army would later become arrived there in 2025 (iirc) in the Megaroad-13 for example. I don't know how many of them were built, but the highest number went up to Megaroad-24 and Megaroad-25...Which were destroyed during construction. -
I'm still wondering why we haven't heard anything from Nozomi since. But considering they were apparently recently bought by Crunchyroll....I don't wanna come to the worst conclusion, but it's mildly worrying. Seems to be the case, though I still think it's kinda funny that Timoshee from VF X2 has been working as a soldier since the SW1, and by 2051 he still looks like a somewhat young adult. Huh...I never really caught his last name! Kinda funny that him (at the very least his last name) and a SDFN class named after him would be the closest thing he'd be referenced by after the original series.

I believe the Plus prequel novel also says something about Neumann being a child prodidgy, or at the very least working on the YF-19's development when the friendship between Isamu, Guld, and Myung broke apart. And speaking of Selzer's previous name, it seemed that some modern material (like The Ride) seems to suggest the DYRL naming scheme for Zentradi is leaning towards the """true""" names of uncultured Zentradi, and the "full" names they have like they did in the TV series seems to be after being enlightened of sorts. Oh wow, that's a lot. Unsurprising considering their role, but it's nice even up to Frontier they still go strong in such high amount of numbers. There's other factors to consider how widespread they are (overall fleet amount on planets and other colonies, coexisting with other variable craft, etc.) Does make me curious about how any planets or other astronomical bodies the UN has colonized. So I was curious and looked if the Master File got that from somewhere, or made it up (like the all-Zentradi pilot VF-19 fleet iirc.) Apparently it was in a kit, and man do they look stylish in black and grey. Was going through the Macross Technical Manual, and I was curious about the research about the Fleet count of the NUN military and the population of the New UN, but even with Internet Archive they seem to be eternally 404'd. Does anyone recount the info there, or is there new information about that since? Master File seems to be ripped with short, but great Macross stories all over the timeline. Official or not, I like how it makes the world in the franchise even bigger then the pockets or insight we see in the series.
