  1. Which episode(s) had the brown VF-1J's? I'm thinking episode 6 "Daedalus Attack" and 25 "Virgin Road".
  2. Good question, but I doubt there's an answer. Probably everything we know about the Megaroad and SDF-2 is in this thread or linked from it.
  3. Exactly--breaching a nuclear reactor wouldn't create much of an explosion, compared to an actual fission bomb (let alone a thermonuclear bomb). Neither would a meltdown. Both would result in a bunch of deadly isotopes being released into the atmosphere, but the blast, if any, would be relatively small.
  4. To edify and/or appall any observers:
  5. The issue is being raised. I added that the drawing appears to be a direct copy of the pic below. (Original from http://www.theroseking.net/animehub/macross/macrossplus.jpg )
  6. Yup, it's pretty clearly not fan art. Someone should try to make sure BW knows about this along with the DYRL superposables.
  7. (Regarding the rest of the post: what Anubis said.) You're correct that if HG had a legitimate exclusive right to DYRL in the US, it would be illegal to import and distribute DYRL stuff that wasn't licensed by HG. However, there would one major loophole: you could still import stuff for personal use. So if you ordered directly from overseas via Hobbylink Japan, Toy Wave, etc., you shouldn't have any problem. Places like Valkyrie Exchange, TMPAnime, etc., might have more difficulty, since they import stuff for resale. However, HG would have to furnish proof of its rights, something they've refused thus far to do. I'm not a lawyer, so please don't take the above as legal advice. It's just speculation based on my reading of the law. Relevant portions of US copyright law are US Code Title 17, Chapter 5, and Chapter 6. The loophole is Section 602 (a) (2).

    MW Updates

Thanks for the review! One small nitpick: the title of the page is set to "1/48 Revisited".
  9. This link may help. I think it's the best reference for correlating Macross/Robotech/Battletech names: http://brianscache.com/unseen/ (Also has the original names of the non-Macross mechs.)
  10. I don't think there are any real-world hydrogen bombs which are "clean". If I may engage in speculation, I tend to think of reaction weapons as fusion warheads which through the use of OT don't need a fission reaction to set them off. Don't know if that's supported or refuted by anything canonical.
  11. I don't have the 9 box set but I think the art on the three miniboxes is okay. Even though the DVD cases aren't much to write home about, I don't find them hideous. They could be much worse. (But then again, one of my other big hobbies is board wargaming, and there have been some truly atrocious boxes even from major companies there.) Ultimately, it's what's inside that counts.
  12. Depends if you're talking about the Yamato 1/48 toys, other toys/models, or the animation/line art. Yamato 1/48: The forearm armor is different as you state. The other main difference is that the TV FP only come in the Super configuration; the DYRL FP set gives you the option of either Super or Strike (double-barrelled canon on the right pack). I assume the TV pack also comes with the proper stickers for the TV color scheme. (I.e., UN Spacy Logo, not the Skull Team logo on the sides.) Other toys: too many possibilities for me to cover, but as far as the Yamato 1/60 is concerned, the forearm armor is the same between the DYRL VF-1S Strike and the TV 1J Supers. Not sure about color. The 1S only comes with the Strike cannon (no option to make it a Super) and the 1J's don't have the Strike cannon. Again, I'm pretty sure the stickers accurately represent the difference between TV and DYRL. Animation/line art: in addition to the forearm armor having a different shape, the fact that there's no Strike armor in the TV designs, and the different paint scheme--the way that the nozzles on the side of the legs are drawn is different. There may be some other differences in detail, too.
  13. It seems that way, but not really. In "By Any Other Name", I'm always fooled into thinking that this guy is going to snuff it, but she dies instead. The pain on Kirk's face always makes me think he's saying to himself, "Why did such a fine piece of *** have to die? Why? Couldn't it? Have been? The dude?" (Edit: TVTome doesn't like direct links to their pictures.)
  14. I have a couple other Southern Cross booksmarks. http://southern-cross.ath.cx/index.html I think this is rather Robotech oriented and rather RPG oriented, so I would take anything it says with a grain of salt unless documented or corroborated by other sources. But I think I saved the link because it has some info on some of the more obscure mecha from the series. https://www.nsacom.net:1952/txt/Website_Mir...thernCross.html I think this is a mirror of another site which no longer exists. I think it's pretty good. Edit: BTW, I always liked the Southern Cross portion of Robotech better than Next Generation. But I'm not planning on getting the DVD's unless/until I can get them at a reasonable price (I'd say $40 tops) and the glitches documented over at the animeondvd forums are fixed. (Look here for info.)
  15. Briefly, the general understanding is that Harmony Gold owns the exclusive right to distribute SDF Macross (the original TV series) outside of Japan. They purchased the right from Tatsunoko Productions, who in turn obtained it from Big West and Studio Nue as part of a contract during the original series' production in 1982. However, it appears that TP has directly licensed the series in Korea, which might mean that HG's license is a bit more restricted than we've generally assumed. Or possibly TP bought some of the rights back from HG. Anyway, the reason the Australian release has a HG logo on it is because HG licensed it to Madman for release in Australia. I assume it has the same subs as the Animeigo release--and if so, that probably means that HG obtained the right to use the Animeigo translation as part of Animeigo's contract to distribute SDF Macross in North America. I'm guessing there aren't any dubs but Cyc will probably have a definitive answer.
  16. I thought you were literate ewilen... "Vintage Gakken Mospeada Scott Bernard Small Cyclone still MINT in Box!" If thats how much they fetch now I should sell the two loose ones I have!!! Ah, they hid it in the description. Who ever reads descriptions anyway?
  17. Also look at http://robotechcomics.50megs.com/intro.html But even if that's what really happened, we don't know for sure if HG was concerned about legal repercussions, or if they just didn't want to use DYRL designs in Robotech for stylistic reasons (and to keep the continuity hounds off their backs).
  18. Is that the small one? I'm not big on Mospeada so I don't recognize the box immediately. If it's the small one, the seller managed to use a clever angle in the picture to hide the fact.
  19. ?? He said it's a hard box with room for three cases, and that they're 2-DVD cases. 3 x 2 = 6 or am I misunderstanding?
  20. mahq.net says the Zentradis seen at one point in M+ are flying the Nousjadeul-Ger Kai, which is an updated version of the N-Ger (male powered armor) seen in SDF Macross and DYRL. http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/plus/nou...eul-ger-kai.htm
  21. So there are only 6 DVDs? Dual-layer, then? And are we sure it's the Animeigo master? There's some doubt whether HG used the Animeigo master in the latest RT release. $150 AUD is about $118 USD...not a bad price, but then there's shipping. The Animeigo minibox sets are about the same price now if you shop with pricegrabber.com or similar comparison shopping site. BTW, some multiregion DVD players can convert PAL discs to NTSC. Mine does, albeit with some slight vertical compression of the image...which is easily corrected by adjusting my TV set.
  22. Answer to Pat: In my non-expert opinion, that would depend on the specifics of the license. If the license was restricted to a specific scale or specific subjects, then even if it could be transferred--which probably isn't a given--it couldn't be used for other scales and subjects. But if it just said "toys based on transforming fighters appearing in DYRL", it wouldn't matter what ARII happened to be making at the time. So the ARII 15th anniversary figures appeared in the US via normal distribution channels at a major retailer like Suncoast? I didn't know that.
  23. Yet another quote that sounds good in a Chris Rock voice!
  24. You didn't include the 1973-74 cartoon, which had the original cast as voice actors. I've heard it's pretty good, though I've only seen a couple episodes. Anyway, I voted for TOS, and I agree that it's gotten crappier and crappier with each generation. I'm so old school I even liked the first movie better than the rest. (It did have a number of faults, but IMO it was a good translation of the original show into a real film, not merely a long TV episode.)
  25. Just remember that the VF-0's leg transformation isn't the same as the VF-1's. And re: using a 1/55 to model the transformation--not only are the legs different from how it "really" works, but the cockpit shield is also different. (I.e., it doesn't get attached by Mr. Hands.)
