  1. Actually, I think this is a good point. In M0's defense, I do recall Roy making a big deal about pilots' needing to take the speed of transformation into account; perhaps the VF-1 will transform more quickly/smoothly. But I also don't see this as a factor in the actual fighting as depicted, and for that matter I'd rather the combat was slower--which would make it more realistic and easier to follow. As for the overall appearance, one area where the VF-0 really looks more like later VF's to me is in the cockpit/nosecone area. It's got a stubby, rounded, bulbous nose, a bit like an F-4, instead of the VF-1's sleek, contoured, F-18/Viper (Battlestar Galactica)/X-Wing nose. That said, if I was going to bet, I'd bet that Kawamori's intent is for the VF-0 to be a prototype in the VF-1 development program, and that existing continuity regarding the VF-X and VF-X-1 is being cast aside.
  2. Radd: that's good information. Nighthawk, I can just see it:
  3. The mods look great! What is that baby blue Max? Instead of blu-tack, I've heard of minwax and other wax-type dollhouse/miniaturist accessories. Might be worth a try.
  4. I really like JsArclight's ideas, especially the small support vehicles. Are there any pictures or episode references for this: I think a 1/60 Daedalus bow would be a little too big to be affordable, unless it's made out of cardboard. How many monsters fit into it during a Daedalus attack? According to my calculations, it would be at least a yard wide. Doesn't the Spartan carry a club? Some pictures make it look kind of high-tech (an overtechnology club?) but it's simply described as "metal club". Nanashi's reference As for price, if they're 1/60, I think they should cost about the same as a 1/60 Valk, maybe as much as a 1/60 Valk with FAST packs if there are a lot of extras (like removable missiles).
  5. This is plausible, but do you have any evidence? It's hard to know what the Meltrandi were after when they folded in before the last battle. Bodolza thought they wanted to steal the secrets of Protoculture and use it against him. Max may indeed have told them enough to whet their curiosity, since Hikaru and Misa probably told him what they knew before the fight with Millia. But were they there to help the humans, or simply to continue their existing feud with Bodolza?
  6. After Max follows Millia into the Meltran ship, he defeats her but in the meantime the Meltran ship knocks out SDF-1's main gun. Then the Zentradi fold in and scare the Meltrandi away with Minmay's singing. Now then, as far as Max knows, he's on an enemy ship; he may be aware that the Meltrandi hate the Zentradi, but he surely can't believe this makes them friends of humans. So why did he agree to become "macronized" and turn into a Q-rau pilot? Just too bewitched by Millia's bodaciously ample beauty? Yes, I know Millia did the same thing in reverse during the TV series, but she wasn't just seduced by Max's good looks and flying skills; she also succumbed to the richness of human culture--a society that doesn't just value war and conquest. By contrast, Meltrandi culture has nothing to offer besides killing and dying. It seems to me that it's only when Bodolza kills Laplamiz, depriving the Meltrandi of their leader and making clear to Britai that Bodolza's willing to kill Zentradi if they stand in his way, that everyone unites against him. Up until that point, Max had to assume the Meltrandi were no better than the Zentradi. So why did Max do it? Or is this just a big plot hole?
  7. I think the GBP-equipped Valkyrie is a cool visual variation, and it gets technophile marks for being a modular upgrade. It's also interesting as a side path on the development of the Super/Strike Valkyries. Other than that, I think there's a lot of pent-up demand due to the rarity of GBP armor and the need for completists to fill that one last hole in their collection. It's similar to the interest engendered by all sorts of bizarre German tanks and AFV variations in WWII, many of which saw little or no service and had no effect at all on the war. I would like to have a set of GBP-1S for my 1/55 Bandai or 1/48 Yamato (or 1/60 Yamato should I get one) but it's not a high priority. I'd sooner see (and spend money on) some 1/60 Zentradi mecha and UN destroids (though not the Monster, due to size/cost constraints).
  8. Am I missing something? These are the options I see: The first refers to PM's. If I turn it off, will it also disable subscription notifications? The second is the autosubscribe feature I mentioned in my first post to this topic. I like that feature, and in any case I don't think it matters whether I subscribe through autosubscribe or manually--either way, i get email.
  9. I don't remember the details, but I think VF-1's in the series could only reach suborbital altitudes (almost certainly not escape velocity) without the use of special atmospheric escape boosters. (Not FAST packs but a big rig that encloses much of the aft portion of the Valkyrie.) I think I know what's being referred to in episode 3, but I assume when they return to the SDF-1, it's only at high altitude. Since FAST packs and armor are represented as innovations in the course of the TV show, it would require a break of continuity (or a bit of explaining) to have them on the VF-0. Perhaps they could show up as a prototype which only eventually got put into production much later. Not only do jet turbines need air for combustion, but Valks in space need reaction mass to propel them. I suspect that this is why we always see FAST packs on Valks in space in the "more technologically accurate" DYRL, but I don't know how explicitly this has been stated by canonical sources.
  10. Is there a way to track topics (mark them so they show up in my control panel) without having MW send me email whenever a new post is made? Even better, is there a way to do this with the autotrack feature (where topics are automatically tracked when I post to them)? TIA!

I like the TV series better than the movie for a variety of reasons (even though so far I've only seen a bit of it in the original non-Robotech), but I'm happy I got a Hikaru VF-1A and I don't mind that I didn't wait for the VF-1J. The movie VF-1A head has really grown on me! Due to space constraints and self-imposed money constraints, I think that'll be it for 1/48's for me, though. Hoping now to score a reasonably-priced Hikaru 1J Super 1/60 in anticipation of standing it next to a series of 1/60 destroids and opposition craft. (And a 1/60 Rabbit! )
  12. Interesting. If you get a chance, would you mind posting pics and/or detailed instructions?
  13. Another vote for the Tomahawk. If I could vote a second choice it would be the Defender--nice AA mech design.
  14. I don't think I want to pay for shipping, but if this one turns up in Chinatown or flea markets, I'll get it just for the heatshield (to repaint for my Bandai VF-1J reissue) and the extra missiles.
  15. Both scenes: yuck. Although I do understand it's war. Regarding decompression: the expert opinions I've read are that it doesn't make your head explode or your eyeballs pop out of their sockets. Here's one link on the topic.
  16. Hm. If Big West really cares about the global market, why didn't they release M0 as regionless and with English subtitles to begin with? Surely DVD's aren't cheaper in Japan than elsewhere, so I doubt they'd be cannibalizing their eventual global sales margins. Whereas by releasing it as Japanese-only R2, they've given the HK bootleggers a head start, and that will hurt their global profits. All I can think of is, maybe Bandai/BW are reserving M0 as a bargaining chip for negotiations with HG. Give HG a slice of the North America (or global) distribution in exchange for settling this whole mess. If so, why not go ahead and put the VF-1 in? Or maybe they haven't yet decided; if HG is reasonable, they'll put the VF-1 in and share the proceeds from sales to Robotechies; if HG won't play ball, they leave the VF-1 out and try an end-run around the lawyers.
  17. Hi, Shawn. Do you need to turn something on so that we can have taglines under our avatars like on the old boards?
  18. quid custodiet ipsos custodiem.... my latin is rusty...i think thats how it goes. Close. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Now for your next lesson, correct the following: Romanes Eunt Domus!
  19. The thing that bugs me is that IIRC the Regult was already disabled, so Max was basically shooting an enemy pilot who's bailing out. (Yeah, I know the other guy tried to throw the first punch.) Anyway, from looking at the This Is Animation book and the Film Comics, I've always assumed he was firing the gun pod. I had thought he was firing it backwards, as if his elbow happened to pointing that way while grappling with the Zentradi pilot, and that move seemed kind of cool. I'm a little disappointed to see that it was pointed forwards after all.

Hey, what about a 1/60 Rabbit? With FAST packs! Has anybody ever done a toy or model of this mecha?
  21. Is that a deliberate non-paraphrase of Gandalf's line?
  22. No, nobody's seen one in M0, but since it comes with a decal sheet which has the name of an aircraft carrier in M0, and since the pilot figure is in an M0 flight suit, it's a pretty good bet that it will appear in M0.
  23. Works for me. Maybe it depends on the format (gif/jpeg/etc.)? Does it handle animated gifs? Or maybe you need to set the size if the picture's dimensions are too big? Related question: is there any way to put a tag under the avatar like in the old forum?

Congrats and thanks for the upgrade, Shawn! On to the question, I know I'm too late for dinner, but I'll add my two cents anyway. 1. Would really like to see 1/60 versions of all the destroids and Zentradi mecha (plus Gnerl fighter pod). (But I assume the Quel-Quallie is out of the question! I'm not a fan of the Q-Q, anway.) If Yamato cares (and it might make their retailers happy if nothing else) it would vastly increase the attractiveness of the 1/60 line of VF-1's. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be acquiring any more 1/48 stuff after I get the fastpacks for my VF-1A. Space constraints if nothing else preclude this. 2. Perhaps some 1/60 Zentradi figures (major personalities--preferably TV versions--and/or a warrior in armor). 3. Ditto to whoever said they'd like to see a 1/3000 transforming SDF-1. TV or Movie--or maybe they could give us both the ARMD's and the carriers? But I don't know if I'd get it unless the price were kept under control (sub $150), and I'd settle for a smaller scale if that would help.
