I think you are right. Or just a conscious stylistic choice for that pic. The other pics show the backplate looking more flushed.

This pic shows how 31AX's backplate is more angled outwards now.. Compared to the 31J..

Couldn't see from the prior pics, but the wings are now much thicker too compared to old 31..

From this angle in Gerwalk, the stinger / laser pointer thingy makes it look like its struggling to balance a huge piece of lumber on its shoulder.. wish it would unfurl even further so it looks less cumbersome. Hopefully the mis-tolerance gap behind the cockpit in Fighter is gone, and that the index fingers on the articulated hands can properly bend to make a fist, instead of the current ones that appear to be in a permanent cast.

Kitz Concept refunded me the extra fees. Gotta say am impressed with their customer service, just like how some others here have mentioned before..

From all the pics I'm seeing, its great Bandai managed to cram the racer and its stand into the existing clamshells. No extra packaging weight or footprint than necessary for shipping, which can help a lot during these times.. I don't think they can fit anything more in there though.

Kitz Concept's quite a let down this time. My Roy is still stuck in shipment somewhere, so I enquired which HK Post service they use. They replied that they normally use eExpress, which I understand to be normal Air Mail (not EMS), but because their post office has suspended Air Mail to my location, they decided to ship it via Surface. This is after their e-mail not too long ago, requesting extra fees to, in effect maintain their normal shipping standards (shipping box & express shipping) due to unexpected rising costs, and which I have paid. Guess I'll only see my Roy in another couple of months at least...

I just measured the Yamato 1/60 Fan Racer, it comes to 4.75”. So Yamato’s assumes the actual size to be more than 7 meters. I’m guessing Yamato & Bandai flubbed a little on their pilots’ size for their VF-1. Who cares if the pilot is an mm shorter or wider than should be at that scale? When it came to eventually making the racer, as there isn’t clear official specs on its actual size, both Yamato & Bandai probably just went with sizing it around their respective pilots’ size. And now we get a weird result where both their racers are almost the same size despite very different scales. I usually don’t really care much about scale accuracy, it’s just I’m slightly miffed this instance because I happen to have a painted-up Yamato, so Bandai’s actually won’t add much value because it’s going be very, very similar in size & features (but I won’t be selling the racer off @no3Ljm ), much more so than both their 1/60 YF-19..

The 1/48 Fan Racer is smaller than the old 1/60 kit from Yamato? That's a bit of bummer! Looking at it too, I think there doesn't appear to be enough space under the pilot's seat to fit in the front landing gear. Perhaps that is why it was never done for both 1/60 and now 1/48 versions..

Mine from Luna Park has shipped on 20th. The e-mail notification came one day after actual shipping though. I had earlier enquired with them: they mentioned first batch of >100 units have been shipped, and they hope to ship the balance out by end of this week.

Thanks for the heads up @derex3592. I got it as BIB item, the doors look properly shut, but I guess I'm never opening them now. Motor's already dead, which I hear is par for most of the used examples out there. At moment I'm struggling to keep it standing with the landing gears down; it keeps wanting to tip over backwards, even with the weight of batteries in its compartment to counterbalance the front.. Can't wait to set it up with the rest of 80's vehicle heroes. @borgified Yeahh these old 1/48 Yammies non-canon scheme still have great life to them. They make great complementary pieces to the new Bandais..

Some stuff arrived recently: Always wanted a great Airwolf model, & aftermarket prices of this Aoshima 1/48 is mostly kinda crazy. But managed to find one for a price I thought was quite reasonable. The 1/60 Zentraedi uniform is a KO from Taobao. The quality of stitching & cloth material is pretty good, and colors appear similar to pics of the original. There are some key differences when comparing to @jenius review of original. The zipper head is different, there is no hole in cap to thread Max's head laser through in battroid, and the logo on the cap has way off proportions. But NBD, I plan to display in gerwalk mode, so the cap will be unused. Whilst waiting for the VF-1 of the month to arrive (Chogokin VF-1D), this Yamato 1/48 VF-1S 25th Anniversary still makes for a formidable display. Snagged this off YAJ for only Yen 5500, advertised as junk. From what I can tell, it only has a bent, half-snapped head laser, which is easily fixable. Of all the different VF-1 toys of any scale, I think the Yamato 1/48s have the best landing gear detail..

Yup, prices of these have dropped over the years into HMR territory. On other hand, the old school large boxes makes shipping a bomb, especially in these times lol. Quite excited when fan racer was announced with the VF-1D, but now it seems a bit of missed opportunity by it not having any landing gears..

The new valk's named VF-19? Ok I found the image in my head for the new valk's battroid. Not so much EVA units, but the Mechas in Steven Spielberg's AI: But maybe Kawamori is just borrowing some aesthetic from his other anime Last Hope:

If monies weren't tight, and having to budget for the upcoming slew of new Delta valks, I would pick up a bunch of Yamato 1/48 Angel Birds to go with the new Fan Racer. The Yamato 1/48s aren't really going for much at the moment..

Oh boy.. our wallets!! haha.. That new valk looks shocking at first, but the more I stare at it, the more I like it, in the same vein when the SV-262 was first revealed years ago.. This new valk has classic, popular culture alien vibes all over it, not unlike when we first laid eyes on F-117s that look like some alien spacecraft. Battroid mode's slim torso and long legs just recalls some alien beings in a movie that I can't recall now.. As for that new crimson & gold SV-262Hs, it's all cool.. but, where's the long awaited Ba pope head??

The whole, larger wing outward of the vertical stabilizers give it quite a different vibe than the normal 31A. It makes it look more similar to the VF-27 now, which in turn look like bat wings..
