Looks like the 1/144 white dingo kits are going back on sale as web exclusives again, so anyone who missed them before get another chance. I still love that sniper kit.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Big s replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Some of those gundam shows can get over the top with the crazy why character moments. But so far thunderbolt makes more sense than most others. Most of the ova series are fairly sane, but the other stuff is where you question the writers mental state. -

Berzerk unfortunately is a great example of what not to ever do when making an animated series. At least it has the same crappy look from scene to scene, even if it's hard to put up with watching the next scene. -
Wonder Woman, in theaters Summer 2017
Big s replied to jvmacross's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think that slo mo is the part that bugged me the most. It's something they should have used less of. But I still gotta recommend the movie to action comic book movie fans, especially the ones that thought DC couldn't do a great film. It can't compare to Logan, but it can compete with the marvel/ disney franchise films and is definitely doing well at the box office.- 233 replies

Just saw it yesterday, movie was sold out last week. Definitely the best film of this new D.C. franchise by far. It's a really good film and looks great. The only things I can complain about would be the cheesy dialogue, the over use of slow motion and that's about it. that's really just being as nit picky as possible. As far as a comic book movie it's up there with the marvel films and hopefully the rest of the franchise will push to do better from now on.- 233 replies

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Big s replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It really is distracting when the characters from modern macross, or even other shows like nobunaga the fool looks so well animated but the mecha look like they belong somewhere else. It's even worse when they have scenes with both the well animated characters and the cg mecha together. Maybe if they would pick one style and stick with it, it wouldn't be so strange. I'm not a big fan of cg anime, but at least knights of sidonea didn't feel out of place in any scene. -
I'd probably be more interested if it was a movie, the lower budget required for a series will just make all the space stuff look stupid. Shows with a high need to effects never look that great.

I still hate the music in thunderbolt, but I do have to admit that the animation is top notch. I don't really like the overly cg look of modern macross mecha and would love the change of style to look more like thunderbolt. I think it's that the cg mecha in most of Kawamori's newer anime doesn't match the look of the characters and feels out of place. -
Unlike ghost in the shell with its many different interpretations, cowboy bebop was perfect as is and I can't see how to make it live action and under series budget. Maybe a miracle will happen, but I think this one can never live up to its source.

Derex, be careful with the tamiya thinner. It's a bit harsher than some enamel thinners. Even their acrylic thinner is pretty strong. I haven't had any problems using thinners like mineral spirits on many bandai kits of various plastic, but after what happened maybe use the water based stuff on those softer plastics. Or if you still have the sprue that those parts came from, you could do some testing and see what's safe.

Lots of great work from everyone as usual. Anyway I was talking to one of the guys at the local hobby shop and he said that he thinks the issue with the tamiya panel accents may happen on softer plastics due to the oils in enamels and thinner breaking the plastic down. After he said that I do remember years ago trying to paint an action figure with testors enamels and the plastic turned a bit gooey and the paint never dried after sitting a few years.

That was one of the classics. as far as modern U.S. greatnes, it all ended too soon. The cancellation of the new thundercats was sad, but at least young justice is supposed to make a comeback, and there's also samurai jack. Maybe there's still hope for the kitties.

What I meant was that the atlas was one of the first designs that wasn't directly from another property, although it's definitely inspired by other things. Sorry for any confusion. Any way it's been a while since I built that awesome scopedog kit. I think I got lazy and only sanded the mold lines and put the waterslide decals on, weathered it with a quick oil wash and flat coated it. I eventually painted the figures though. Really was nothing, but fun.

Atlas was the weird one from battletech after they got sued and had to make their own designs for a change. Any way, that bandai kit really is great out of box with a little weathering. I think the only thing that needed paint was the pilot if I recall.

I'm feeling pretty sad for you. I've never heard of problems like that with the panel accents. Now I'm paranoid about using it. Any chance of doing a battle damaged diorama to rescue the work you already did? and also what's a good source for florys. It's not at the local hobby shop and Amazon doesn't seem to have it.

Alien: Covenant (formerly known as Prometheus 2)
Big s replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Saw covenant this weekend and I liked it. The scares we're not very scary, but I liked the non horror stuff. I liked a lot of the ideas. The fact that the colonists were all couples was an interesting and oddly unused idea in most sci fi. I do think there was room for improvement. The action was also a bit silly at times, but things like the way the androids behaved were also interesting in that they were so different in behavior.- 352 replies

The hmr monster was a dream come true for me. I have wanted a great toy for decades that represented my childhood hopes. I didn't watch dunbine until the late 90's and only a couple years ago did I see the ova. So I don't have the same attachment, but I can't deny that this is upcoming release is still something I would like. It's just a price and space issue. I do have the Zwarth from the show and really loving it and if I can I will add his big brother.

I do really want this, but after the getting the hmr monster I'm really low on space for larger items. I'm gonna have to do some rearranging and see what I can work out.

Sorry meant to say playing with plamo, but I must have deleted the playing. Anyway there were a few minor mods like the ears, tail and claws on the shield. I also smoothed the shoulders and added a mono eye that fit perfectly out of a bandai lense set.

Playing with Plamo is over and I didn't place, but had fun anyway. Bugu cat since the face looked like whiskers after buying the kit
