  1. At the mention of space shuttle, I was reminded that Bandai and Action Toys were going to produce a number of MP-styled Machine-Robo (Gobots) figures, as shown back in Feb at the C3 Game and Toy Show in Hong Kong. http://news.tfw2005.com/?s=machine+robo I was looking forward to picking up a few of them, but I've not seen any news about them since they were first revealed. According to TFW2005, when they covered the show, estimated release on the figs was June. Since there's been relatively no news surrounding these guys, I hope they weren't scrapped. I'd love to have their versions of Leader-1, Spay-C, Snoop, Cy-Kill, and Fitor. Probably the rest, too...
  2. Good luck in your hunt; I hope you find one at a reasonable price, or at least a price that won't bring regrets later. As for the VB-6, personally, its uniqueness among the usual fighter/bomber designs sets it apart. Moreover, it's also unique, along with the Variable Glaug, in that it didn't start out as a transformable mech, but was redesigned as such by Kawamori. Among the Macross designs, this is one that was unlikely to ever get the toy treatment due to its size and complexity, not to mention stability and structural integrity, and yet we're fortunate to have had two toys produced. I'm glad to own both versions, as each offers something different. Perhaps, seeing one "in the flesh" will change your mind about getting one yourself. I hope the opportunity presents itself. In any case, come what may, best of luck. -M'Kyuun
  3. Yes...mine is always in battroid. I love the design and look of it. Always have. The Yamato version was quite literally a dream come true. As for future Bandai projects, I don't know what's in the pipeline anime-wise, but I hope it's something different from the VF-25/Frontier aesthetic. The VF-25 is one of my favorite valks, and I love the design, but pretty much everything Frontier-related shared a similar design aesthetic. For the sake of variety, I hope the next designs from Mr. Kawamori are distinctly different, but still beautiful. My personal wish list for 1/60 toys would be the Variable Glaug, the VF-14, the Octos, the BG-5C Fatman (very obscure cargo plane design, but cool nonetheless), the Versten Ve-88 (another obscure design. I love twin boom aircraft, and this design is pretty neat), the VF-9 Cutlass (one of Kawamori-san's most complex designs. While I generally find GERWALK modes to be pointless and unappealing, oddly I find the VF-9's G-mode more appealing than the battroid. It would make for an interesting toy, I think). The VF-5000 would also be a nice addition to the 1/60 collection.
  4. Well, as with any product, the user's mileage may vary. My Yamato still stands tall on my desk. The arm joints are a little loose, although they never were really that tight to begin with. However, overall, the thing still locks together well in all modes, and presents well still. I also have the recent Bandai re-release, and it's a a better toy overall, although the feet are not as lineart accurate as the Yamato. Bandai had the luxury of learning from Yamato's mistakes; their version employs ratchets throughout the toy to excellent effect, has a much more streamlined and lineart accurate shuttle mode, and is more stable, esp in battroid, in large part due to their deviation from the original foot design wherein the heels and feet are joined and move as one unit, which allows the entire leg to move forward at a greater angle allowing the engine exhaust panels to clear the ground. The Yamato's follows the lineart in this respect; the Bandai version attaches the two heels laterally to the leg itself rather than to the foot assembly, and in battroid the exhaust panels are used as a heel, which increases its stability, but sacrifices its lineart accuracy, aesthetics, and a bit of poseability. Given a choice, I'd have to recommend the Bandai; overall, it's a superior toy.
  5. Good dream, that; Disney has the financial clout to either buy out HG, or outlast them in the courts. Moreover, they've already demonstrated interest in Anime by bringing over Studio Ghibli's works; however, Macross doesn't really fit their target audience. But they could release the various parts of the Saga through Touchstone, and eventually make them available, fully dubbed, for the NA market. Concerning comments on the aesthetics of the VF-4's battroid, I find it interesting that some here find it ugly; I'm quite the opposite in my thinking...I love the way it looks. My only beef with the Yamato version is the lack of shoulder articulation, severely hindering arm movement, which is contrary in the utmost to what one would desire in a combat machine of this type. Yamato also made their battroid a little lankier than the lineart suggests, a compromise they made to edify the fighter's aesthetics. To their credit, it boasts one of the finest fighter modes of any valk. I'm happy to see Arcadia making it available again, although I'd also be happy, if not tempted to buy another, if they modified the shoulders to articulate. Hopefully this mold will see more life in various paint schemes. I doubt it, but one can hope. In the end, I hope everyone who wanted a copy but missed out on original issue manages to get at least one this time around. Good luck!
  6. JBO, so true. For a flagship brand, its scarcity in stores makes me wonder what Hasbro's strategy is for making money from them. Moreover, it seems to take a long time for them to show up when they do make a fleeting appearance. I'm also liking the new Voyager Galvatron; leaps and bounds better than the Classics Deluxe version.
  7. Ugh, no. I saw the Sentinel Prime, and for a moment I thought the same thing. And seeing how bad the shuttle is, and how even more egregiously terrible the 'train' mode is, I immediately tried to un-think it. Astrotrain needs his own mold so they can make him look like a proper realistic shuttle and a realistic train. At least they tried with the Classics version.
  8. I'm in for MP Shockwave, and Voyager Galvatron. Both are looking good. Not too plussed about the Headmaster stuff; I always thought it was not only a dumb idea in practicality, but a dumb gimmick as well. But apparently people liked it, and it's coming back. S'pose Powermasters will be next year's return gimmick. I'd rather they made a new Octane and Astrotrain in voyager size (or even leader class, esp Astrotrain). That would be glorious. Leader Blaster looks pretty good, but his 'cassettes' are strange. Why not make them like the old cassetes, just more fitting to today's engineering, like the MP cassettes? They could make the entire line of cassettes and I'd buy them all. There was just something really cool about them that I still love 30+ years later. And still no new Kickback to finish off the Insecticons.
  9. Hot Rod just doesn't look good to me in bot mode; the car mode is ok. Easy pass. Shockwave looks good to me; I'm a huge fan of perfect transformation, whether it's screen accurate or not. I like the engineering required to make it work, so long as the overall aesthetics aren't too compromised. I've said it before, but I really hope Takara redesigns the F-15 Seeker mold to make the bot more animation accurate. The head mount sitting higher than the shoulder intake area looks so wrong.
  10. I wonder if that eye's going to light up? Odd that the test shot would have an opaque chest plate rather than translucent. Mutterings aside, Shockwave is looking good so far.
  11. Very ambitious, and well done. Gonna be expensive and heavy if you build it with real brick, but I wish you all the best!
  12. Hot Rod doesn't really grab me. the hood chest looks too plain, or something. I'll reserve judgement after we see him with paint. Gotta say, though, I do like like his car mode. The Mighty Shockwave! A much needed addition to the Decepticon team, who are woefully outnumbered. Surprised they're releasing Shockwave before a new Megatron, though. Maybe they had one in the works, and the Tak team were high-fivin'. Then Apollyon came out, and they were like, 'Dammit!' Seeing more upcoming G1 MP releases gives me hope that Takara are going to continue this line even while working the Beast Wars stuff. I hope Hound or Jazz are next in line, or a new improved F-15 Seeker mold. An official Cyclonus would also be welcome.
  13. So wish Alex Kubalsky would return to Takara. He designed some of my favorite figures, and I think he'd be an asset to the MP design team.
  14. VF-1 1 1/55 chunky munky 1 MP Toynami (really nice box, meh toy) 3 Yamato 1/48 1 v1 1/60 2 v2 1/60 & G1 Jetfire
  15. Well, I can't blame them for trying. Cool idea, poor execution. Fortunately, I never got him. I may get Hot Rod though. Odd that more hasn't been shown concerning their foray into Beast Wars for next year. I figured an early proto of MP Primal would have been teased by now. Ultimately, whatever else Takara are doing, I hope Shogo Hasui-san is busy designing the rest of the '84 Bots.
  16. Shockwave would be very cool. And a new official Megatron. I have Apollyon, b/c I got tired of waiting on Takara, and honestly, he's done so well that I'm not sure if Takara could do much better. I'd like to see them try, though. Soon! As for MP Ironhide, I don't find his design nearly as refined as the others, but he's still the most screen accurate representation I've seen. I have to say though, given that the cartoon depiction was a total cheat, since, other than the chest, it didn't match the toy whatsoever, translating the van into a toy to capture both modes is a challenge, and I'm happy with what they came up with overall. I still wish they could have found a way for his weapons tray to actually incorporate into the thing and become an autonomous tracked vehicle, and for his back cannon to retract into his back, but beggars can't be choosers. Instead of Hot Rod, I wish they'd done MP Arcee or Springer; you know, characters we actually liked. In Hot Rod's defense, though, I like his car mode, so I'd get him more for the sculpt than for any love of the character.
  17. Looks like Takara are making a new MP Hot Rod. http://news.tfw2005.com/ Meh...wish they'd keep making the '84 bots. A new seeker mold would be welcome, or surprise us by making Reflector.
  18. Caught this about 30 minutes in tonight (free movie channel promo). It only cemented my thinking that the live action movies need to be rebooted with absolutely no involvement by Bay or his writers. I wonder how Hasbro, in good faith to one of their most popular and enduring franchises, can allow a director to depict the Autobots as homicidal psychopaths, esp Prime and Hound. With Autobots like these, constantly threatening to kill, and doing so with abandon, one wonders why the Decepticons are needed. I found it especially laughable when "Spoiler" Prime says something about honor right after stabbing one of the bad guys in the back and shredding his head. Yeah, he did it to save Cade, but the manner of slaying his adversary was contrary to our general notion of honor. There was much to dislike in this movie, but the greatest thing that stood out to me was Bay's depiction of the Autobots in a manner much more suited to the Decepticons. Like Galvatron, the movie was soulless.
  19. Steel Battalion- I love the blocky, industral/military look of these designs. http://arkensark.deviantart.com/art/Steel-Battalion-Wallpaper-53120532 The Methuss, Methuss Kai, and the Delta Plus from Zeta Gundam. Glad you mentioned L-Gaim, DarrinG. Great, stylish designs that really catch the eye. There was an amazing looking custom with a striking locust inspired paint job featured at a Japanese event years ago. I thought I had a pic saved, but I can't find it, and Google's letting me down. Anyway, although I've never seen the anime, I find the designs unique, interesting, and cool. LEGO is one of my other expensive hobbies, and there are a plethora of amazing mecha designs, both custom and media-based, floating out there on the web. For those interested, there's also a LEGO Macross Group on Flickr. Many of the Machine Robo/ Gobot designs, esp the aircraft. Robot-Jox.... No! :lol:Just Kidding! Escaflowne I forgot the SV-51 in my previous post. One of my favorite valk designs, in fact. I'm not a GERWALK fan, but this looks awesome in G-mode. From Warhammer 40K: Space Marine Dreadnought, Eldar Wraithlord, Wraith Host, and Dark EldarTitans, the Necron Triarch Stalker and Canoptek Spyder, Skitarii Ironstrider, Imperial Knight mecha Vox and Ovid mecha from Rinne No Lagrange Nirvash Type Zero Spec 2 and 3, and the End from Eureka 7 Kallen's Guren from Code Geass; Alexander type 2 from CG: Akito the Exiled. The latter has a creepy look to it when its down on all fours in attack stance. Pretty sweet.
  20. The AT-AT & AT-ST The Motoslave R-3000, HAW206, Tachikoma The Garland and Proto-Garland Mugen's Calibur and the Gazette from Dorvack GoLion Voltron Eva Unit 01 (I know, not completely mecha, but piloted and controlled by machines/armor) VF-1, 4, 0, 2ss, 9, 11, 14, 5000, 25, 17, 171, Koenig Monster, variable Glaug, YF-19 & 21, BG-5C Fatman Legioss Majority of the Zoids ED-209 Majority of the Armored Core designs Many, many Transformer designs, esp the G1 designs taken from Diaclone T-800 Powerloader from Aliens APUs from The Matrix Prawn Exo-Suit from District 9 These are a good start
  21. Does anyone know if there was any post-show continuity in the comics? As Valkyrie Hunter D mentioned, they kinda left us hanging. The guys who did Avatar: The Last Airbender produced two excellent graphic novels to provide additional post-show information & adventure; I'd be thrilled if Marty Isenberg and co. produced a similar book(s) to extend the series a bit. I'd also love the same for the 2011 Thundercats show. It was hitting its stride, and then got canxed by Cartoon Network, most likely due to poor toy sales. My wife and I really liked the show, though.
  22. ToyWorld's Devastator is what I wish the official had been. I wish these third party releases weren't so taxing on the wallet.
  23. He left a heck of a legacy within the horror genre. Another master of his craft gone too soon.
  24. Shogo Hasui-san has my everlasting gratitude for the MP Fairlady Z mold. I already have Prowl, Silverstreak, and Smokescreen, and considered myself done with that mold. Nope.
  25. Misa Hayase. I think she was the most complex character in all of Macross. She suffered the loss of her lover, lived in the shadow and disapproval of her father, occupied a high leadership position rife with enormous pressure in unprecedented circumstances, was captured, poked, and prodded by giant sex-fearing aliens, and began a relationship with an indecisive guy with baggage of the cute singing variety. I like that she was a strong competent leader, but she was also human, and her frailties were also explored. Hikaru chose wisely in the end.
