No, the Protoculture themselves weren't divided into sex's, just their stock of Zentradi soldiers. One side used males, the other side used females. And as already pointed out, the fact that they could create life from nothing (the Zentradi weren't evolved from any previous life form), let alone completely alter evolutionary patters of pre-existing life (Humans, & Zolans, amongst who knows how many other worlds in the Galactic Republic) proves that their technology spanned far past just simple replication type cloning.

Why did the Protoculture keep both sex's in the Zentradi army? Simple, the males fought on one side of the civil war, while the females fought on the other. This is also outlined in the difference between their ship designs. Mind you this is all moot once the Protodevilin come about, as the Protoculture combined their fire power in an effort to survive (which is why we have a mixed fleet such as the Bodolza fleet). Besides, the Protoculture couldn't have intended to fight eternally, and likely did plan to "decomission" the Zentradi, and absorb them back into their culture. In fact, we do know that they intended to re-absorb them. After the Protodevilin were sealed, the remaining Protoculture did attempt to "culture" the Zentradi. Unfortunately, due to the newer battle orders which allowed them to fight the Supervision Army (which included mind controlled Protoculture), they realized they didn't have to follow orders, and lashed out at the Protoculture's attempt to change them, whiping their remains out. Practice excersizes did occur to maintain battle readiness, but they also didn't keep soldiers satiated, or even interested (such as Kamjin's tendancy to kill his own men). I still stand by my statement that they use a style of DNA mixing, the Protoculture's technology was too sophisticated for them not to have.

Come on, the pills were undeniable the means by which Guld was surpressing his "fighting instinct." They wouldn't have been introduced otherwise. He uses them at an exact moment when he feels rage, end of story.

The numbering system in DYRL only exists in DYRL. All Zentradi in Macross, & Macross 7 have last names (Milia still remains Milia Farina Jenius, not Milia 639 Jenius, Veffidas last name is Feaze, etc). And while we never do see any Zentradi being "born," we do know from the Protoculture's handywork on both Earth & Zola, they are quite adept at altering & generating DNA. When you take into consideration the huge numbers of fleets, the hundreds of thousands of years that the Protoculture produced Zentradi, and the 50,000 years that the Zentradi roamed free after the fall of the Protoculture, there's no way in hell that they're simply copies of copies. Also accounting for the fact that there were no on hand medical technicians, no visable means of storing clone sample DNA, and the high unlikelyhood that they'd go back to retrieve blood samples once a soldier killed, just how would the perpetually copy themselves? Despite the large number of fleets, there were no two Zentradi shown that looked exactly the same in any series or movie. Therefore, considering the widescope of Protoculture technology, it's far more likely that they just mixed DNA as needed to create new soldiers from any two given soliders. This of course isn't getting into the command class, advisor class, or fodder class soldier specifications, which is a slightly different subject.

A word on Zentradi cloning: They are not carbon copies of each other, thier cloning methods would be more attributed to being "test tube" babies, where in dna is mixed then grown, not directly copied. If they'd be copies of copies, they would have all died out long before the start of the series.

Guld didn't rape Myung, this much is absolute fact. Guld did however percieve that Isamu did something to Myung, this I won't argue with.

It's a simple matter of battle experience. The Zentradi of 2009 haven't had very many opportunities to fight. The Supervision Army is all but whipped out, and aside from a casual run in, they probably don't fight each other very much. Humans however just got hot off the Unification wars. Beisdes, Guld had a superior fighter, but Isamu was a superior pilot.
-
Essentially, yes. Guld first grabs Isamu by his shirt before laying him out flat, and he grabs Myung's shirt as well, but instead of punching her, he goes into a deeper rage just before he see's himself & blacks out. It's an animal reaction to rip apart something/someone you're attacking. Hell, take a look at the battle scenes in Evangelion. Isamu wouldn't have "given up" Myung had Guld raped her, he would have killed him, that's the alternate scenario, don't mix the two up. The reason he broke up with Myung & felt sorry for Guld was because Guld went into a jealous attack rage. So yes, I can state it as 100% correct, as that's exactly the scenario that occurred. While on the flipside you have Guld, who did mesh his memory into Isamu having sexually assaulted Myung, and he in turn had a desire to kill him.

$400? Bah, wait a month or two, and the HK bootleg will be out. Only question being will it be encoded well enough to appreciate the remaster.

Just Started Watching Macross 7 With the GF
Keith replied to lebhead's topic in Movies and TV Series
Start with DYRL, then ease into the first episode of 7. -
Watch it BOMBA!

You guys are not going on for 6 pages over this are you? The simple answer is "no," Guld did not rape Myung. He went into a violent rage, knocked Isamu out cold, and then tore Myungs shirt. At this point he see's himself in the mirror, and most likely blacks out, blocking the true memory of those events out for 7 years. There was no intent to sexually assault, and if anything, gone fully unchecked, he would have strangled her to death, not raped her. Myung would not have been even remotely open with him, let alone slept with him, had he raped her. Isamu in turn wouldn't have simply bantered with him in their dogfights (as Isamu clearly had the skill advantage in a direct fight), and would have killed Guld before leaving Eden to join the U.N. Spacy. Both Myung & Isamu felt guilty for not recognizing Gulds feelings while persuing their relationship, which is why they broke up & parted ways in the first place.

I absolutely loved 7 from the very first episode, everything about it entirely blew me away. I watched half the series in 2 days....then had to wait 2 weeks for the rest of the fansub tapes to come!

My vote was "Other." Specifically, it goes to all the HK bootleggers out there! All 3 Yamato series, Galaxy express 999 up through episode 36 (I NEED THE OTHER 90+ NOW!!!!!!!), Robot Carnival, Please Save My Earth (haven't picked it up yet), , and great stuff from last year such as Orguss, Double Zeta, Victory, Macross 7, etc. They've been delivering more great nitche titles, with ever improving subtitle translations, and fewer watermark logo's. Definately the most improved this year! AnimEigo has yet to release Arcadia, which hurt their vote, Bandai pushed back Zeta to next year, which hurt their vote, ADV did decently with things like Mospeada & Mazinkaiser, CPM is pissing me off with the re-release of Dominion Tank Police with the worst subtitle font ever, and Manga has entirely dropped off the map (though thankfully Korea picked up the ball by releasing a great Giant Robo set, now if only they'd do Gunbuster too!).

Macross 7 will rock your world, buy it now!

Another vote for having a dedicated Gundam forum, how about it shawn?
-
Slash from Chrono Trigger???
-
Ah, but the white mustache of the Turn-A is suspiciously similar to that of one of the G-W scientists. Coincidence???
-
That's ok, I liked Wing too (actually finally just picked it up), enjoyed it much better this time after having seen Zeta first. G Gundam isn't by any means bad, it's just..different.
-
Recent??? Are you sure it's not Lala from MSG?
-
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the mecha or ship designs in 7, most definately nothing that CG would be needed for (though there already was a CG VF-19 in both the TV series intro & Dynamite intro).

How long until we can put our member titles back????

Are you going to pick up The Two Towers DVD?
Keith replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Psst, why pick it up & sell it? Just rent it, much cheaper! I'm waiting for the extended edition, it's only 2-3 months until it's out, and the video quality is so much better. -
Sad thing is, we won't see the end of Zero until a year from now....bah!!!

I say go for Victory Gundam, a very misleading beginning which turns into an excellent show.
