Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
Fortress_Maximus replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
one thing i've often wondered about is how shayla after jeopardizing the crew so often w/her selfish actions kept getting away with it. this was evident when she stole the gundam (almost getting herself killed & the gundam captured) looking for char. and again when she went found char in texas colony... and again in jabaro... it seems bright let her get away pretty easily while punishing amuro (referencing the solitary confinement in the second film) for doing everything in his power to help and to stay alive since day one. i understand how the military may not want to recognize individual efforts but seriously if it was not for amuro's efforts and developing skills, white base would've easily been destroyed much early by char. any thoughts on why shayla kept on getting off easy and was given so much screen time? her contributions to 0079 was pretty insignificant imo much like in the z series.- 3823 replies

DO IT Solscud007!!

And as strong as the Strike was I do not think it is stronger then the NuGundam from Char's Counterattack. The bloody thing responded to mere thoughts and still allowed the pilot to stay sane unlike the Camille's Zeta (which I think is stronger than the Strike). As for the 00 Raiser vs Strike, hard to say we haven't seen the full capabilities of the Raiser yet.

Cosmos Pink Shock - 1986 OVA (Subtitled)
Fortress_Maximus replied to Area88's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Classic Toshihiro Hirano! Love his character designs!! AWESOME stuff, pity he doesn't lend his character design talents to any more animes. The last ones were the classic Dangaioh OVAs and Iczer-3 OVAs. -
I got a bunch of posters some are full sized and others are from fold outs magazines like Animage from the 80s. I better start taking some pics!

Yes and no. The way I saw that scene is Saji is MERELY beginning to realize his selfish actions have adverse consequences on others; but, he still does NOT realize that he cannot remain so bloody naive and isolationist about his actions and views on the war. IMO Saji needs to mature, the child seriously does not understand how there is no ideal solution(s) to resolve the conflicts w/the war and how reuniting w/Louise will not "solve" anything. If the writers follow the character trend from Z Gundam for Katz Kobayashi's "doomed relationship" with Sarah Zabiarov, Saji will end up dead sooner than later.

Cool additions BV! This thread reminds me I got to scan my cels that have been piling up.

Yes but don't be surprised if they use that cliche. I just wish Saji would grow some balls he is such a bloody wuss who fails to acknowledge he has so much blood on his hands directly due to his own selfishness. He is such a damn hypocrite preaching like he is above it all and how everything would be solved if he just got reunited with his love. What a stupid child. Louise is tragic for sure but she is already mentally unstable and a borderline basket case. My money is on her getting mercy killed like Rosamarie from Z Gundam or best case like Quess who was Bright's idiot son Noa in Char's Counterattack. Why does it seem that in almost all of the Gundam series there has to a stupid kid who ends up getting themselves killed over love or unrequited love? Overall I definitely like the direction they are going in pitting each of the strategist against one another so it isn't just mindless battles one after another. So far the 00 series IMO is much more well written with good character developments compared to the teen angst ridden, shojo horny ladden series Seed. I am really interested to see how the writers intend to develop the growing conflicts between A-Laws and the Innovators. So far so good!

Actually I don't think it is the US wirework that is necessarily ages behind HK per se. Rather I think it is the actors ability to perform believably in their physical roles. Did anyone really believe Keenu in the Matrix remotely came across as a martial artist? LOL! IMO part of the responsibility needed to make wirework work also falls on the shoulders of the fight choreographer, the director and editors. Sure it helps that some not all of the HK actors possess some acrobatic, dancing or martial arts background. But wouldn't you agree, just possessing those traits alone do not make an action role/film believable? -

I get the same error too and I am also in the US. Dude if you can post a new link we'd appreciate it! I am sure others are interested in the vid b/c the peter pan flying BS just falls flat and gets really old, fast. Thanks Garou Kuroryuu! -

Yes. I for one would like to see fights that actually look like fights and not some Peter Pan BS. Lets be honest, not all video games translate well into movies, especially if the action is the primary emphasis in the film and the storyline/character development is a distant secondary. However, with some creative martial arts choreography, the fight sequences at least do not have to be colossal disappointments! For Chun's gravity defying move, one idea is to creatively use capoeira as a good starting point. Most of her other moves can be “enhanced” with skillful use of wirework but not overly exaggerated, which has become the Hollywood norm. An excellent example of how wirework can enhance a well choreographed fight sequence is the film Sha Po Lang. Watch it and see how the wirework was seamlessly incorporated and tell me that the finished fight choreography does not look and feel better than most Hollywood attempts at a martial arts type film (i.e. Kill Bill or DOA). Feel free to disagree with my stance that fight and martial arts films should actually look somewhat realistic. But there is definitely something commendable and worth reexaming when a film like SPL wins the “Best Action Choreography” at the Hong Kong Film Awards. -
Well you know what they say... "behind every great man is a greater woman". I think Sheryl for all of her emotional outbursts was the most mature of the three Frontier protagonists. She was altruistic and completely supported Alto to do the right thing. If anything Sheryl was the true hero in the Frontier series because she took the pivotal role that Hikaru represented in the classic DYRL movie. She alone “inspired” Alto to save Ranka and her unselfishness saved humanity.

I diss KB b/c it is a horrible example of how Hollywood has butchered martial arts films and turn everyone into a freaking expert like Uma, Keanu etc. UGH. -

Nah, KK is too small at the top, buns and thighs to play CL. I am sure there are other unknown Asian actresses that can fit the look and sizing needed for CL. But unfortunately, Hollywood needs named actresses to draw the target teen and young male audiences. And yes this will be wire-fu pathetic just like Kill Bill. Lame. Hollywood needs to learn how to do martial arts films without relying so heavily on wirework. Some good examples to research are Sha Po Lang, Tiger Cage, Ong Bak and Once Upon A Time in China just to name a few.
