  1. Considering that the best word to describe FSS mecha designs would be "complex," I'm not sure why it's any surprise that most products are tiny and/or expensive. Easy-to-produce FSS designs would look like, uh... L-Gaim?
  2. Was it playing at the cinema in Mori Tower? I think Tochiro and I watched Kawamori's OVA Kenji's Spring there a couple years ago. Also, pretty impressed a Japanese theatre audience applauded after a film.
  3. I'll probably make it to the Yardhouse, unless there's something else going on that I need to cover or something comes up.
  4. Hiriyu, I actually saw him the day before I bought the GTS. Guess he's been keeping himself busy by making his 2002 even more insane and buying a bike. I don't have much of a preference as to coupe vs. hatchback, but everything else about the car seemed right so I jumped on this one. For a while I think the hatchbacks went more because of the Initial D bullshit, but I guess at this point they both go for about the same. I don't have much in mind for it, yet. It's been mildly modded about how I'd want, so I'll probably just buy an extra set of tires and start autocrossing it. Mechanically it's been running great, aside from the clutch which is starting to go but still very driveable. My biggest priority is getting rid of the rust on the roof/quarter panel, as it's getting pretty bad in one spot. Took it in for an estimate today and they said it'd be around $1200 to cut out the cancerous part on the 1/4 panel and replace it, fix the surface rust on the hood and repaint it. Expensive, but it doesn't seem outrageous. The hood also needs to get get repainted or replace (carbon fiber?). I'm in California, so my hands are still pretty tied despite the age.
  5. I checked out some YouTube videos and it looks like a longer, high speed autocross -- way fun. Hiriyu, how many runs do you usually get at this event? I think I'll try and convince some friends to caravan down for it next year.
  6. It's probably not feasible for me to make it out this year, but I might give it a shot next year. What exactly is it? A high-speed autocross or something cooler?
  7. That looks like a ton of fun. Are you participating?
  8. Yeah, I'm back in the US. I've been back for about 6 months, but I've been without a car until now. I paid $4k for it. It wasn't exactly a steal, but also not terrible considering what they go for. It's a shitty market for them, no doubt. This was actually the first (and only) one I looked at, so I think I lucked out. These days a decent condition SR5 will go for $2-3k, and a lot of people have ghetto hybrids where they've put a 4AGE and a GTS rear end onto a SR5 chassis. A guy recently put an unmolested 1986 GTS with 65,000 miles on it on Club4AG and wanted $9k for it. It's really hard to find a GTS that hasn't been molested in some way. I went for this one because it had the stuff I would have wanted to do anyways (mild suspension stuff, an exhaust), the previous owner had daily driven it (which I intended to do) and it had a super clean CarFax. Most GTS' you see for sale have had the A/C and power steering units ripped out, this one didn't. What's Lone Pine?
  9. Haven't been around here in months, but I figured I might drop in to put up some pictures of my new car. A few months of hemming and hawing about what to buy, and I realized that in the time/price frame I was looking at (early 2000s, $10k or under) there wasn't much of interest to me, largely because I really, really did not want a FWD car. Almost bought an '03 BMW 540i Msport a friend's relative was selling, but it needed a bunch of work. Ended up buying this instead: It's a 1985 Corolla GT-S coupe, something I've wanted for a long time. Has a Japanese front end, and some minor modifications to the suspension and exhaust. 200,000 miles on the odometer with the original motor (which is still pretty damned strong). The interior is about as clean as you could hope for in a car of this age; aside from some serious wear on the seats it's in really good shape. Everything inside works fine: inflatable lumbar support, power mirrors, even the A/C blows cold. The biggest issues is the paint, which has some serious peeling going on. Also has a couple of spots of rust I need to get fixed up, but otherwise there isn't too much to complain about. Once I get it sorted I'll probably start autocrossing it, seems a waste to keep a car like this relegated to just daily driving.
  10. Considering how many aspiring pedophiles got into all the moé garbage that was in Frontier... I stand by my statement.
  11. That's ridiculous. A janky Ford built in 2006 is never going to be a collectors item.
  12. It's pachinko, man. It's always targeted at a wide demographic.
  13. The first episode of this is now fansubbed, so all you Kawamori-philes should check it out. http://nugumin.mistakesofyouth.com/ If you liked Frontier, you'll probably like this a lot too!
  14. The Halo story is pretty overrated anyways. Just play through for the gameplay. Both the original Halo and Halo 2 has pretty crappy single player campaigns and they're not worth going back to now unless you're really trying to be thorough.
  15. Itano might be an anti-semite, but he's 100% correct on this one. I disagree about needing to watch the entire thing to badmouth it. It's pretty obvious after the first 7-8 episodes that Frontier is garbage.
  16. Yeah, between NCSX and Play-Asia, I tend to go PA. Asked some friends and they recommended these places, no personal experience from me though. Might be worth checking out. http://www.renchi.com/index.jsp http://www.japangamestock.com/ http://www.paletweb.com/
  17. NCSX is also a good shop and they've been around forever. Their prices tend to be higher than PA's though. Cheap import games are pretty rare, short of finding them on clearance somewhere or perhaps on eBay.
  18. Uh, I'm guessing you're new around here. Welcome to Macross World.
  19. Pretty impressive considering he died 20 years before the anime film was made and probably didn't speak Japanese.
  20. Given the unquestionable success of all the other MOSPEADA toy lines, I don't see why Yamato wouldn't make a new version of the Legioss and Tread. Why they'd be crazy not to.
  21. Pachinko games are huge money, and they've done them for series far more obscure than Macross, so no, this does not equal a new TV series or anything of the sort.
  22. Er, easily the worst season in the past couple of years. An adaption of 2001 Nights.
