New Shadow Chronicles Screen Caps
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
yeah but there was a lot noise by fans of the old who initially wished the show had retain the feel of the older show. One example is how we saw mainly humanoid cylons instead of the typical robot looking cylons. Big change there. And how the main character was changed to a female who smokes cigars for the sake of it. (maybe they are aiming at the 50 percent of the population ie females who tend to shy away from sci fi shows due to the geek factor?) Wasn't the excuse that they could NOT show these shows because there were not enough episodes so they had to mash them together? We may have gotten the original shows if they were not forced to mash the shows together and tie them all up as one big show. And so now that they've been mashed together there is a big mess: a huge robotech fanbase that wants more, (aware of the originals stories that it spawned from but who genuinely like the RT story built up from all the novels and comics and stuff) while others have moved on and found out the real stories of the shows but because the shows are so old, there is now no continuation of them due to age. (so the newer generation of anime fans focus on newer mecha shows because they are embarassed by the crap animation of older anime. There was one example of a guy trying to get his friends to watch macross but because it was so old, people tended to not care even if it was good for its time) -
So how much is jetfire really worth anyway?

Err biggest understatement of the century. DYRL destroys the tv series in terms of quality animation and detail. Ahhh still after so many years this thing has aged well. As for Robotech: give it a chance, it might be good. We all thought BSG was going to suck because it didn't stick to the original but came to like it over time. Maybe HG gets it right this time and a new generation of fans catches on? If we see a mospeada sequel and all the haters of robotech who bought toynami alphas to make HG prosper end up buying and liking it, then we have you guys to blame anyway..mwaha I'm going to hold off judgement until the thing is finished. Maybe there is a technological reason for spandex or something and that measuring the electrical impulses from the bodies of the pilots increases the responsiveness of the mecha or something so these suits are design to fit against thier muscles tightly? (sort of a advancement from the mkinney novels' thinking cap control system?) Remember how in macross II when those emulators had thier bikini outfits glow with power when ishtar sang that song and thier feelings in thier body changed to her music in response? And people, don't forget aquarion. They have suits that are tight in that too. The pilots get orgasms just by combining. I know cheesy isn't it? Just don't take the mecha show so seriously and you might enjoy it. -
So what happens to all the old stuff? I gather that more space means prices for things are cheaper at the big places. But if it means the makers of those things lose out and thier products lose thier market value so quickly that is kinda sad you know? I want the people who make the stuff to be rewarded on the greatness of the thing they made (me buying them at a price where most of the money goes to them rather than the middleman) rather than the item not being made because the market is flooded with too much other stuff that if the series isn't popular it no longer is made or is available at a store. This is probably the biggest barrier for the little kid who can't find his fave thing in the toy store anymore and being forced to buy online. If little timmy can't find the rare tf cuz star wars is new, that right there = lost sales. And only the adult fanatic of the series who has access to a car, loads of cash to buy the rare stuff and resell on ebay, is able to gobble up what is left and create whatever artificial shortage he can.

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Nope but being the most-developed of the gundam universes isn't it time to move on from constant war over the same issue? Maybe they could implement aliens in the SEED series. We've already got what looks like a transforming valk in Seed. (those orb mecha) So already I'm seeing macross/robotech themes. (pop idol, gundam that looks like a valk, "genetic engineering going out of control" theme) You know how they showed that alien whale in the first series? (seed) This kinda reminded me of macross 7 when Basara is singing to the space whale. Now what if they combined the genetic engineering humans have been doing with alien life to make an entirely new race of people? All this would bring into question the importance of retaining the rare extinct species of human (old types will be like the endangered species) and how 1 race (co-ordinators; even though they are humans too) can be thought of as being a natural "predator" to another race due to thier ability giving them advantage over the other species robbing them of jobs, attention, and making it harder for naturals to compete in the jungle let alone make a unique path for themselves. In SEED Destiny the whole theme was how there is no fate or destiny because nobody can predict or plan for every single factor for complete control. Random things happen (like Athrun getting with a different women as opposed to being destined to be with pink haired girl or cagalli which we were all expecting as an audience to be "the perfect match", but instead he ends up with another girl altogether) so you can never tell if actions you take no matter how well thought out, will result in everything going according to plan. Now in this new era of experimentation and humans having all this technology, what I want is for some experiment to go wrong and the human race to make an even better race of human, which eventually backfires on both sides for wanting to expand beyond earth and claim other planets as thier own. (usually advances in tech lead to wars that involve that advanced race using its power to increase its sphere of influence no matter what the war was about - humans are greedy phuckers and eventually want more. The world is not enough.) Man shouldn't always be right, and automatically assume because they are more evolved than another race they can just take and take as they please as all lifeforms have right to exist and it should be assumed that our genetic makeup is only a portion of our existence and that there is a spirit inside living things. So what you have is this new war against the earth by the aliens against them overreaching, and the human exploration involves discovery of ancient civilisations on other planets giving a warning to future settlers to stay on earth and not settle to other worlds. Of course co-ordinators are thirsty for more knowledge and ignore the warnings and start exploring and finding more and more things to study. All this tech becomes black technology which the government has been hiding and then leads to an escape at a lab of an alien-human hybrid. (project objective was to evolve humanity to a new level - bringing out the psychic powers of humans for use in war) Problem is these aliens are not merely physical beings (think of the mulians from rahxephon) and have a free will, so they; being pissed off decide to turn against co-ordinators for not heeding the ancient warnings and this leads to a new war between these spirits who've inhabited certain humans, and the united earth feddies and co-ordinators who are ill equiped to take them on. The only people who can save humans are the alien sympathisers who have given up thier freewill to be used in the experiments to find out more about the human race. These people are the true new types and it is possible that some of these people (having a good balance of sense of justice but feelings for lesser lifeforms) were once on earth long time ago and forgot this was thier original home. Some of them had planted seeds on earth and after generations forgot what they had planted (they were god to us essentially) and surprised to see what has happend to thier original creations. This explain why some coordinators have the SEED factor (a mode which lets them kick ass) and some humans don't. The less evolved people without seed factor were the native humans, while the humans with the seed factor (which has nothing to do with genetics) are tapping into thier god-like abilities which these aliens once possessed. (but who are now evolved beyond matter to become energy beings unable to appear to humans unless inside a host) The aliens conquer earth, but the human-sympathiser aliens fight against these evolved types with the belief that humans are thier own kind so it would be like killing your own children for breaking a law. Essentially the good aliens win allowing man to sin, and keep living on, while the bad aliens go underground occasionally let out to punish the human race when they get out of control as a form of crowd control. This is where the bad aliens purposely choose a host that has a lot of emotions of anger and bitterness since it will be easier to control them if motivated by revenge. It is still up to humans how they want to behave (they have the freedom to forge thier own destiny) but if the world itself is beyond saving that is when the bad aliens win and given more power and allowed to have thier way. (the humans' own mind is what determines how much control these spirits are allowed to have over us) What I would like to see is a science fiction series that depicts humans as more than the physical makeup and give a more spiritual meaning to life. To me the mecha themselves are just the tools of war, and to be honest it is tiring seeing only humans at war for stupid stuff rather than working together. The whole "evolved human" thing needs an answer as to WHY? HOW? did some of these guys have these powers while others don't? The "aliens possessing" people idea at least brings a new twist on the gundam mythos and maybe they can work this into the religion of blue cosmos. Maybe paint them as being involved in ancient rituals and old ideals and tradtions that have been kept for centuries due to warnings the aliens had left on earth before they evolved into a mind energy in a spirit world where they united as a single being or god. (rather than as a seperate being thinking individually, they made peace long ago and formed a single mind to communicate thought instantly like a brain) So this works as BC motivation for wanting to stop the co-ordinators from expanding into space for the sake of these ancient warnings, (co-ordinators are not in harmonic balance with nature) and explains the Blue Cosmos sabotage of genetic experiments to make humanity too proud and daring of itself for its own good and instead, focuses on preserving what is natural (since humans have thier own destiny to forge which should be unique from what the former inhabitants of earth was). This time they might be painted as 'good guys who are just extreme' rather than evil, and bring the balance back to the middle. (that there is a force in space with a will like in star wars but that is up to humans how they wish to use it)- 3814 replies

Robotech and HG license debates

So as long as my dollars go to whoever made the thing I will be happy. Modding has never been a prob for me. As for dvd, most people I know have multiregion player anyway. -

Wow that was quick... you sure it wasn't an april fools joke? -
Thanks for the pics. I keep checking this thread every once in a while for new pics. Some of them I save to my HD and drool at later. I'm kinda sick and obsessed about it.. 160 on a 160.. hehe. But this toy in some ways is better than a 1/48 vf1. Did you hear about how the improved the landing gear, gave us a rotable seat, and other things? It's roughly the same size as a 1/48 AND has about 1/48 quality.

Robotech and HG license debates
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Roy Focker's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Big west should just release an english version of DYRL in japan, then everyone imports copies from japan. Release english versions of macross games in japan, then everyone imports them from japan. And then in exchange all japanese fans of robotech can just import robotech games and dvds from the us. Man, sooo sickening. If they'd just come up with a deal we could all be playing macross games on our game systems, buying yamato valks from retail, (hehe) and US fans of macross can watch future macross series (if there is going to be any). The losers in the end are the fans. -
New Shadow Chronicles Screen Caps

I will still watch it despite the characters. I watch all mecha shows for the mecha though.. After roughly 20 years this might fall into the war of the old school vs the new. Remember star war Prequel trilogy vs the original trilogy? I'm going to pretend that I'm just a kid again and enjoy it and watch mainly for nostalgia. I just hope they finally come up with a detailed definition as to what protoculture is with nice easy to understand diagram for the laymen. As for titties. I don't see what the problem is: I loved how in macross II the aliens dressed up the women in skimpy outfits and all of them were hot. No fat ugly chicks or old people with sagging skin in site on the aliens side. (the results of centuries of refinining thier genetic modification techniques and anti-aging creams?) -
MasterPiece Collection v1.1
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Dangard Ace's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Imagine if they made a banpresto style alpha for really cheap? I'd buy that. Make them roughly the size of thier vf1 PT toys. Don't worry about detail yet. Don't ask me how it will transform. Just an idea. If it breaks? who cares? you will always have spare parts. (still haven't actually broken any of my banprestos yet though. It comforts me knowing that every parts of the toy is detachable so you can mix pieces up beyond just the swappable head) I think had I not stumbled upon the yamato macross stuff, I would have already owned 1 or 2 alphas myself. So I kinda feel a bit sad if this will be the last of the alphas we ever see. (ie due to not being popular in japan as well as the toys getting bad reviews) As a kid I liked the whole idea that the alpha could dock with the beta as well. A smaller less detailed toy might not put so much strain on the pocket either. -
I agree. Toy hunting has wasted so much time. I gave up and caved in to the scalpers and got used to it. But for those little kids it must really suck that thier fave figure is now rare thanks to being either short supply, sold for insane price by some fat dude who rushed out to make it rare and wants a higher price for it, or the company didn't distribute something evenly enough so you have this struggle between the haves and have nots. Pretty much toy forums have a "sightings area" for people to post where they saw a specific figure and in which store to help eliminate the travel for the collectors but still I would rather see an abundance of the toys than to have to resort to hunting for everything. The time alone puts strain on the person. Sometimes I wish I had a pocket sized fold booster from macross to fold the toys I could never find to my house.

haha That is for real? That should be the macrossworld front page image.

What's wrong with my Yamato, Bandai, etc.
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Maybe they should make the holes bigger, and make the base of the missiles magnetic so you don't have to squeeze them in? -
That's good news. If you ever get some other toynami toys (ie the 1/100) I would like to hear your impressions of it. Because if they release some other mecha like a qrau or some destroids I will be interested in these. See I think what toynami should have done all along is release stuff that was PT but not limited edition so that valks were more affordable to begin with. The impression I got is that the box is so nice, but when you finally open it, it just doesn't feel like a high quality toy worthy of the asking price. More like a "leave me in the box and never touch" thing. With yammy 1/48, even with the prices you feel as if the money went to good use and you are getting what you pay for. (sure some can say that it ain't full of diecast like the MPC transformers, but ultimately that works in its favour when you consider putting GBP on, fast pack on, etc and the thing still manages to hold whatever pose you put it in and won't scrape the paint the more you transform it - increasing playability, and durability and holding its value over a long period of time in the likely chance that you would want to sell it on ebay and get the best value you can for it due to keeping it in relatively good condition. no loose limbs, paint chips, stress marks due to sheer weight causing wear and tear etc) for example: If I were to ever sell my yf21 FP there is no way I can claim "good condition" due to the scrapped paint on its legs now, can I? I've transformed it too many times, and the damage is too noticable.

Well I think it would be cool if they just did a movie version of Zero for crying out loud. perfect timing: -yamato toys coming out -the increased exposure of zero -fill in those gaps. (how did aries get hurt that she was bleeding?) -different ending! (let the monster kick ass but have it so that the afos does the same trick as the protodevlin and destroys these in a way that doesn't pollute the place - environmentally friendly aliens) -the low visibility VF1 appears in the last episode in a "what happens months later" vision explaining the events after the disapearance of shin -leave the ending open ended (maybe show something to explain why ivanov was thought dead and have an anti un soldier communicate with a mysterious figure about the failure to capture the alien mecha. Maybe point to this idea that there are plants within the UNG who are still working to get revenge and who have sympathisers within all parts of the world) then.. ..maybe lead that ending into a series all about the first space war told from a war veteren aboard macross 7 who lost a friend, telling the story to his grand kid. Of course maybe this will be a way to get more history on global and hayes and perhaps some secrets about the alien technology will be revealed: there were alien ruins with details about transformation long before the ASS1 hit earth but the crash reawakened a desire to fill in the clues about what was already found on earth before it hit. (leading to the reasons for uniting earth to control that flow of information, which is the very reason the anti un fight so they can have it. Perhaps they have transformable vehicle designs before the ASS1 crash but have been hiding what they know from the UN all that time from the discovering of underground ruins. ie DYRL PC city under the sea. This might even explain some of the problems in the tv series about the fold drives disapearing: perhaps it was an "engineered accident" by one of the scientists who was blackmailed by anti un to tamper with the ship before it left off from earth.) The series would be telling a side story of SWI but in the future. (where all the 50 years old secrets are revealed between the two sides - anti-UN vs UN, painting neither as the good guy, but showing how vf1 and vf0 came to be and why robot modes were thought so necessary and why such a rush for variable weapons. It would add filler to the existing macross Zero OAV that couldn't be included for time reasons. Maybe there were other experiments on the dead bodies of giants and programs to make an "organic robot" of some sort? This failed (too controversial for religious reasons? Not able to digsuise the technology amoungst the masses?) and they decided to incorporate transformation of fighter craft instead, and viola! We get the reason for humanoid robots rather than "cloned giant soldiers" which is the path the Protoculture went down. None of this secret technology in the tv series appearing due to having to be underground experiments of course. All those futuristic energy weapons you see in ep1 of SDF:macross will start to make more sense then.)

Roy or hikaru 1S plus a set of FP of course. Although I think the black skull and bones looks cooler so I would go for roy.

I think what he should have done on the bit where max transforms into gerwalk and shoots milia with his gunpod is make the gundpod noise really loud. Because you can barely hear anything when he shoots. Maybe show a closeup of the gun and shake it around a little.

1/60 Vf-0d Vs Vf-0s, Which Do You Want More?
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
I guess the point of it all is to prove that people want a valk that isn't like the ole' vf1. Since the market is flooded with vf1, the vf0S might not have the same appeal based on this "OMG they are releasing the same thing" factor. I reckon the only reason they started with 0S is because it is similar to the vf1. (it may go in order of difficulty) If it isn't difficult to make a 0D and we finally do see more two seaters (that includes attempts at vf1 two seater) the people waiting for it will be happy they didn't have to buy something they didn't really want, to get it. (ie the non-completist people) I think the order will be in terms of difficulty: 0S (just like a 1/48 vf1) 0A (easy to do the head) 0D (if the sales of the other two make the risk worth it) I proposed that maybe yamato should include a checklist feedback card in the box of thier toys and on this registration card you tick box for what you would like to see. This way people can directly say what they'd buy, what they wouldn't buy and eliminate some of the risk. Don't like the variable monster or Qrau? say so and put down how much you would spend for something you would buy as a way to help predict what would be popular. Finally they could see the yf19 demand from the feedback card and justify redoing the M+ line with 1/48 vf1 and 1/60 vf0 quality. (hopefully by this time we will have even better grade ie poseable hand with individual finger articulation) -

I think the toy looks good but for me the best 1/72 was the vf11 fp -Light (mainly plastic except for legs - I bitched a lot about paint chipping on yf21fp so ever since then I have been a plastic whore) -easy to play with (won't fall apart when you put it upside down) -the greyish color looks cool -gunpod can be attached underneath. (even the bandai mac 7 one had this...if you shaved off some plastic on the gunpod handle so it would sit close to the body) -easy to pose in any mode with stiff ratched joints (unlike the yf21 with floppy limb and dangerous gerwalk mode) -

1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
If I could only have one: 0D Two seaters look cool and the wings look great in fighter mode. I am more a fan of the 0S head though. Maybe they should release a custom 0D with 0S head turret? But I bet the only reason Roy came first was due to his exposure from the original tv series. So it goes by a popularity/recognisability thing. -
Yamato should pack them that way officially. just kidding. Now a gbp equiped valk plus fast packs all in the size of a normal box. Would this be possible? Imagine the savings..
-
Or a feedback card asking what the buyer would like to see in future? (they tick the box and send it to yamato) I figure if people can say dirctly what it is they want and have the wallet to back it up, through provding feeback and a history of existing purchases made, it will save a lot of time and limit the risk factor of the unpopular release that doesn't sell. I for one would love to see the bad guy's mecha done for once. Ivanov is after all Roy's teacher. I reason if Roy is a popular character, than ivanov being his main rival should have fans out there too, and fans of the vf0 would want a rival mecha for it to fight against or display near a vf0. (ok so shin was the focus of the OAV but roy has the name from SDF MAcross which everyone knows) The sv51 should be to the vf0 what the 1/60 Qrau was to the 1/60 vf1.
