The Rock Band 2 vs. Guitar Hero World Tour Thread
mikeszekely replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No Van Hagar = not a good Van Halen game. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was their best album. Waits patiently for Guitar Hero: Chickenfoot. -
Yeah, I'm picking and choosing too. I picked the Transformers seasons, and not the G.I. Joe ones. Don't know why, but as a kid, I never really got into G.I. Joe.

Yeah, but a multitouch Windows 7 tablet netbook would kick ass. -
I picked it up for $16.99 at Target. I'm not sure what extras are going to wind up exclusive to the Matrix box set, but I just don't have $140 to drop on it in this tight times, let alone a place to stick it. I can swing $20-$30 here and there on DVDs that'll fit in my normal DVD shelf, though. I guess I'm just going to pick them up individually. Does anyone know if Shout Factory is going to be doing any Transformers other than G1? I haven yet, but might still pick up the complete Engeron and Cybertron sets from Rhino. It'd be nice if SF could do complete sets for RiD and Armada.

Honestly, David, I wouldn't worry about driver support. From a clean install, Win7 RC1 detected all the hardware I had installed in my computer, including the monitor. Only two devices I've plugged in haven't had drivers: a color laser printer (Samsung CLP-300) and a Windows Mobile smartphone (Samsung Omnia i910). In both of those cases, Windows asked if Windows Update could connect to the net to look for drivers. I gave it permission, and it found drivers on its own. I haven't had to download a driver or install a driver disc yet, and I've been using Windows 7 not on some spare computer I use for testing Linux distros, but my main desktop gaming rig. In fact, I've been so content with Windows 7 that when I ordered new hard drives, I decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 instead of going back to Vista. You can read more about my impressions of Windows 7 here and here. But suffice to say that, barring any unforeseen problems between RC1 and RTM, I think Windows 7 should be a definite upgrade for both the Vista users and the XP holdouts. -
Maybe Call of Duty just isn't your thing? I know I haven't really liked a Zelda game since A Link to the Past. But I know I'm in the minority, and if someone was asking about good games for the Wii, I'd probably recommend Twilight Princess anyway, since most people seem to like it. I certainly couldn't say that it's a bad game. And most people do like Call of Duty, both Modern Warfare and World at War. I'm sorry that they don't live up to your standards of perfection, but I don't think it's really fair to call them bad games. If the person they're being recommended to hasn't played them yet, odds are better that he'll like them than he won't.

Knight Rider the Movie (and Series)
mikeszekely replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
While I suppose it's possible they bought a stock Ford Mustang and kitted it up to look like a Shelby, as far as I know they used at least one Shelby GT500KR. I think he means in the original they kept a few extra Trans Ams around to trash during stunts because they didn't have CGI. -
Because we totally disagree with you? I played CoD4 on both the 360 and the PC, and I think it's still probably one of the better split-screen multiplayer games on the console. As for CoD5, which I only played on PC, I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed it, even if it was Treyarch and not Infinity Ward.

Knight Rider the Movie (and Series)
mikeszekely replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
True. I was thinking more of the CGI, and the fact that while Ford Mustangs aren't too pricey (depending), Shelby Mustangs are. The GT-500KR, in fact, is around $80,000 last I looked, and figure that they'd need a handful of them... -
Knight Rider the Movie (and Series)
mikeszekely replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not me. I mean, yeah, the show was full of cheese, but I grew up watching the original, which was just as cheesy. I'm not surprised they canceled it, though. I know I was in the minority, and KR had to be one of the more expensive shows to produce. -

Anybody else try out the Opera 10 beta? I've never really felt a strong urge to abandon Safari on OS X, but on Windows I dumped IE for Firefox a long time ago. I've been mostly happy with Firefox... it's not perfect from a fresh install, but there's plenty of ways to tweak it until it's what you want. Back when I was looking at IE alternatives, I tried Opera (I guess it was maybe around Opera 6?) and I never cared for it. The Wii version didn't do anything to change my perception, and the Mobile version on my Omnia is caught in this gray area where it's a lot better than most of the other WinMo browsers I've tried, but I'm not quite satisfied. Somehow, though, I got it in my head that I needed to try the Opera 10 beta. And I gotta say, I kinda like it. I think it has a more modern look than Firefox, and I really like the Speed Dial thing. While there are similar add-ons for Firefox, like Fast Dial, I wasn't a fan because the browser always opened to Fast Dial instead of my home page. Opera still opens to my home page, and only displays the Speed Dial stuff if you open a new tab. EDIT: scratch that last bit, I fixed Fast Dial. But still, I gave it a second try because I liked Speed Dial in Opera, so... -

There's probably a reason you're only reading this at this Fast Game News instead of a more respected gaming news blog like Kotaku or Joystick. The picture says it all. -
SecuROM is the worst thing to hit PC gaming since piracy. It drives people who'd actually spend money on games away from the industry, and does nothing to curb piracy. If anything, it encourages it... who's going to pay money for a game that comes with a glorified rootkit when you can get the SecuROM-free version via Bittorrent? Still, I do prefer games on PC. It's easier to play some games with the ol' mouse/keyboard combo, I've got a wired 360 controller for the ones that don't, my wife won't kick me off my computer to watch some lame show, and with my hardware some games look better than the console version.

But I'm pretty sure that Steam does provide a one-time transfer of a license. At least you can play Fallout without GFWL, right? I know that if you want to save, you're have to use GFWL. Still, in the long run, I prefer tying a game to a service like Steam or Games for Windows Live to crap like SecuROM or limited activations. That's the main reason why I haven't bought the new Riddick, and the reason I passed on a box copy of Far Cry 2.

People buying the 360 or PC expansion packs on discs are getting screwed, because yeah, the first one has Operation Anchorage and the Pitt, and the second one will have Broken Steel and the fourth DLC. The only way to get the fifth DLC is in the GOTY package. I've been waiting for the DLC on discs, so I hadn't bought any yet. Given that the DLC has all been $10 a pop, and the GOTY edition will be $50 on PC, I figure I'll just wait until the fall and buy the GOTY edition. To that effect, I'm thinking about selling my copy of Fallout 3 to a buddy, if only for a pittance. Does anyone know if I can do that if I already registered the key with Games for Windows Live?

"Tiffany Blews" is one of the catchier songs off Folie à Deux, but I can't say it's ever made me think of robots...

Final Fantasy VII is the single most over-rated thing in the history of over-rating things. Horrible graphics, lame plot, and characters with all the depth and personality of tofu. Aeris/th dies? Maybe I'd have cared more if I'd actually had her in my party for any length of time beyond when I was forced to. Cloud a badass? Try Cloud an emo crybaby. Sephiroth? Bishonen in a goth trenchcoat. The only FF I liked less than VII was II, to say nothing of the other RPGs that are better.

I've just never really got the need for a gaming-specific keyboard. I don't do any MMO's. Mostly I play shooters, and I don't want to move my hand off the WASD keys to hit their special "gaming keys". Instead, since I have a Microsoft mouse and keyboard, I used Intellipoint to set the two side buttons on my mouse to replicate the keystrokes for "G" and "V", then make sure I always set "G" for tossing a grenade and "V" for melee in the games. Maybe someday I'd like to get a gaming keyboard or a gaming mouse, but only if it the mouse has extra buttons to map to "G" and "V". -

True, but progress needs to be made eventually. Hopefully everyone can get on board with Windows 7, and Windows XP can finally be laid to rest. -
It's not just funny that this "exclusive" probably won't be. It's funny because this is the one time people probably don't even care if it's exclusive.

I'll second that. At minimum, it was the best of the PlayStation trio.

I think you're thinking of last year's show. For the record, my PS3 gets the most use, but as a media player. I do most of my gaming on PC or Xbox 360. And my Wii has more or less collected dust since last year, when Brawl came out. Sony had an okay show. Not sold on their motion controller, and the PSP Go is too pricey to replace the one that actually plays the UMDs I own. No PS3 Slim, no price cuts. Some decent games coming out, but most of them were expected. The biggest surprise, FFXIV, is an MMO, which kind of dulls any excitement over it. Microsoft had an okay show. Like Sony there are plenty of games coming, but it's mostly expected stuff. Some interesting new stuff like Last.fm coming, but what about the rumored Hulu service? Natal seems to be the big thing from their show, but again, I'm not sold on playing games by actually moving. Nintendo, on the other hand, not only announced some unexpected games, but games I desperately want, especially the new Metroid, New Super Mario Bros Wii, and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Granted, SMG2 won't be out until next year, but those are hardly "casual BS." If NSMBW is as good as the DS version was, it could be a GOTY.

Glad to hear you're liking it. I just ordered a pair of SATA 3.0Gbps hard drives to replace a SATA 1.5Gbps and an IDE, and in anticipation of doing a fresh OS install, I figured I'd give Windows 7 a try on my gaming system (3.0GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, GeForce 9800GTX+), before going back to Vista when the new HDDs arrive. My main goal was to see how games would run, since I only did Beta 1 on a netbook. I'm actually so pleased with it that I've decided to stick with Windows 7 as my main OS until it starts nagging me about expiration, or I get an RTM copy (assuming that my contact that provided me with my XP Pro, Vista Business, and Office 2007 VLKs can get me one for Win7 Pro). In a nutshell for anyone else interested in trying Windows 7, it's the best features of Vista with some serious tweaks and a few new features that make it all around better. You can get Release Candidate 1 from Microsoft directly, and it's good until July or August of next year. -
Waggle, no matter how amazing it looks as a demo, is never good in reality.

I don't know how it went from the system I haven't touched since Smash Bros Brawl to the system I want to play with the most... oh wait, I have an idea. Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (out now). New Super Mario Bros Wii Ju-on: The Grudge Super Mario Galaxy 2 Metroid: Other M
