  1. You should be alright if you reset the router. The worst-case scenario I ever had setting up a network for anyone was that when I tried to use the password the router generated for a key, the computer gave me an error connecting. But I got around that by manually typing in the entire long key. As for the TV cable, were you trying to play a game, or a video? Videos should be fine either way, but if you were trying to play a game on the TV there are two absolute musts: -You must have a component cable for the PSP, not a composite. -The TV you are connecting to must support progressive scan. If you're meeting both of those requirements, I don't know what the problem is.
  2. I think that's just for OS X Server. If what I've been reading is correct, the regular $29 version is a push toward 64-bit only, which was the cause of most software incompatibilities. I just checked a few things, like if I had any incompatible apps, then shut it down. The MacBook was great when I had a job working open to close at the mall in a store that had a wi-fi connection, and all I was using it for was to browse the net, watch videos, and read comic books, before I was really into PC gaming. I do game now, though, and I don't work at the mall anymore, so I do 99.9% of my computing on my self-built desktop, and I gotta run Windows on it. I will say this much. While Windows 7 is the best Windows to come around in ages, and while everyone will use Windows because that's what comes on their computer when they buy it, or because they game, or whatever, I do think OS X is probably the best OS around for just screwing around on the internet or popping on a video. To that end, I really wish Apple would release a 10" MacBook, sans DVD drive, for maybe a third of what the current cheapest MacBook's going for. Windows might be the best choice for my gaming rig, but OS X is perfect for netbooks.
  3. I just installed the final RTM version of Windows 7 Professional. Aside from the fact that it says "Professional" instead of "Ultimate," and aside from the lack of a build number watermark, I'm not really noticing a huge difference between it and RC1. Despite the fact that it's not really different than RC1, I think it's a step in the right direction for Microsoft, and I'd honestly encourage everyone to move to it. It's enough of an upgrade from Vista to be worth it, and it fixes enough of Vista's problems (real and imagined) to please the XP hold outs. I also just finished installing Snow Leopard on my MacBook. The MacBook is one of the original Core Duo (y'know, before they added the 2 between "Core" and "Duo") units so I don't use it much anymore, so I'm not sure how much difference I'll notice. Leopard was a big improvement from Tiger, but so far Snow Leopard seems pretty much the same as Leopard. I guess I'll notice more as I use it. Unless you have a lot of apps you know aren't compatible with Snow Leopard, or unless you're still rocking a Power PC Mac, I guess you might as well still upgrade to Snow Leopard. It's only $29, and although I used it as an upgrade from Leopard, I'm told it installs fine over Tiger.
  4. I gave up on IE years ago. IE7 and IE8 haven't lured me back at all. I use Firefox 3.5 as my primary browser, and Opera 10 beta/release candidate as my backup. Firefox is still mostly more of the same, but I was surprised that I really like Opera 10. And I HATED Opera 8 and 9.
  5. Totally! I think I'm a minority, but I actually really liked House of M, mostly for its take on Spidey. I don't know... I recall several stories about them getting stressed, but I don't remember MJ leaving, at least not for more than an issue or two. A previous split would have been just more grounds for a permanent divorce. And really, with a divorce rate around 50% in the US, a Spidey-divorce could have been a great story. One of the reasons I've always liked Spider-Man more than, say, Batman, is because even though Spidey's got powers and Batman doesn't, it's always been easier for me to relate to Spidey. He's always struck me as one of the more human characters in comics.
  6. If Norman killed her, that'd just be rehashing when Norman killed Gwen Stacy. I think the best option would have been a divorce, plain and simple. Some great stories, like Spider-Man: Blue (written when Loeb was still good), have dealt with the fact that Gwen, and not MJ, was really Peter's true love, and a part of him has never gotten over her. We've also seen how much stress it is for MJ to be at home while Peter's out doing the Spider-Man thing. That marriage was doomed to fail. As for life post-MJ, I think they've actually been pretty careful to avoid sticking him at home with Aunt May. He was sharing an apartment with a cop who's presently in jail, and his current roommate is the cop's sister, whom he got drunk and slept with during Aunt May's wedding.
  7. PS2 compatibility never coming back to PS3.
  8. I just finished Shadow Complex... and I mean that loosely. Yeah, I finished the final boss and saw the ending, but I only found 62% of the items and explored maybe 80% of the map. Anyway, if you own an Xbox 360, you should own Shadow Complex. Simple as that.
  9. The worst thing about One More Day was the way Peter and Mary Jane's relationship was ended, and the way they made Peter's identity secret again. It was cheap and gimmicky. The execution was poor, but the results aren't half bad. After 20 years of stories about Pete and MJ struggling to pay the bills (even though MJ is supposed to be a model/actress) and Pete's home life was more stale than the pizza crust under a frat house sofa. Getting rid of MJ opens a world of possibilities for Peter... too bad they can't seem to think of anything interesting for him to do when he's got the mask on...
  10. Um... thanks for the update? I don't really buy single issues anymore anyway. TPB's are easier to shelve.
  11. Yeah, I don't really buy into their line of reasoning. I can think of only a handful of Gamecube or Xbox original games I still feel like playing, but I can think of a crap ton on the PS2 (Onimusha, Devil May Cry, the MegaTen games, the Fatal Frame trilogy, Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3, the Ratchet & Clanks, Ace Combat 4, 5, and Zero, the God of War games, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, and Mega Man X Collection, just off the top of my head...). Some games, like Persona 4 and Devil Summoner 2, are relatively new games. I don't know how much money Sony's saving by not including BC in the PS3, but it seems like it couldn't be worth it. Unless they expect people to buy PS2's? As far as I know, PS2 sales are actually still very strong.
  12. Ok, I bought it, and I have maybe an hour to an hour and a half in. The game's more Metroid than Castlevania, if anyone's curious. The only thing they took from Castlevania was the leveling. Everything else, right down the to items that increase your max health and ammo, is pure Metroid. The only thing I'm not really liking is the controls and the pseudo-3D gameplay. Games like New Super Mario Bros and Maverick Hunter X have shown how to make a classic 2D game with 3D polygons. Shadow Complex, on the other hand, forces you to play with the analog stick and triggers, and occasionally has enemies attacking from the background. It's frustrating that you can aim at them, but you can't move toward them. This is especially stupid in rooms with a staircase... instead of climbing the stairs, you have to jump from landing to landing. My complaints are minor in the scheme of things, though. If you're a fan of Super Metroid, definitely pick the game up. It's a steal at $15.
  13. Has anyone here grabbed Shadow Complex yet? I'm a fan of Metroidvania-style games, and Shadow Complex is currently sitting on a 90 score at Metacritic. I'm thinking about grabbing it this evening.
  14. God of War III and Final Fantasy XIII aren't expected to hit either NA or PAL territories until 2010. Sony's going to have to content themselves with the sales boost that comes from "slimmer and cheaper!" alone. I can't really think of any major exclusives for holiday '09... not that I see that as a huge deal. I can't think of any right now for the Xbox 360, either. All the good stuff's coming in 2010. We'll have to content ourselves with a new Call of Duty, Dragon Age Origins, and a handful of different Rock Band/Guitar Hero games this holiday.
  15. The original design was a bloated monstrosity, but it was a futuristic-looking bloated monstrosity with touch-sensitive areas instead of a real power button or eject button, and a shiny case with (in same cases) chrome trim. The new PS3 Slim? Looks like a PSP battery.
  16. So what the internet has known all summer is now official.
  17. I'm also going to chime in as having never experienced the red rings. Now here's the part that's going to totally blow your minds... ...it's a launch unit. Bought it at the midnight launch, brought it home, and stuck it on the shelf I'd cleared in anticipation. Since then, I've gone through three batteries packs for the Play 'N' Charge kit, replaced the faceplate with a Transformers one, and played a crap ton of games (enough that my gamerscore is 18,000-ish out of a potential 100,000-ish). The thing's still going. If I had to say which of the current crop of consoles is the most problematic based on my own personal experiences, I'd complain about the Wii. I'd read about the Wii24Connect problem just a few days after buying my Wii, but it was already too late. Now I've got weird sparkly vertical lines over every game I play. Fortunately, I don't play many Wii games. I'm going to rag on the DS Lite, too. That's another launch-day toy I bought, and like so many others, I got the hinge crack. I called Nintendo, who basically told me that even though it's a known issue, my DS was out of warranty so it was going to cost me $85. I told them to piss off, continued to use it until it fell completely apart, then bought a brand new one for $99 at Target.
  18. "Wrathchild" is really the only Maiden song I liked that didn't have Dickinson on vocals. Give me anything off Somewhere in Time instead. "Alexander the Great" is probably my favorite Maiden song.
  19. I probably wouldn't bother (do you see yourself often displaying them with the missiles showing?), but if you do bother, for some reason red just seems right.
  20. No Bruce Dickinson = not really Iron Maiden. Oddly enough, the last few times I've commented in this thread have been to mention Boston and Iron Maiden, two bands a lot of members will gladly admit to liking, but the most recent CD I bought was Cobra Starship's new album... a CD by a band half of the members here won't have heard of, and the half that has probably won't be as eager to admit to liking.
  21. I LOVED this show as a kid. Not sure I'm interested in the toys, since my wife barely lets me get away with some Transformers, but still. You know what'd be cool? A Ronin Warriors video game.
  22. It's already been determined that it's not real. The magazine that use the image took it from this guy's flicker. Which isn't to say that there isn't going to be a PS3 slim, just that it's going to look like the one we've been seeing for a few months, not this guy's fan-creation.
  23. "I have the coolest, most futuristic tape dispenser in the world! I wish my PS3 looked more like it..."
  24. I wouldn't worry about it. I expect the PS3 slim will look more like all the other leaks so far. I could have sworn I read on Engadget or somewhere that the image on the magazine cover was a fan-design.
  25. In my area, I only have three options for toys: Target, Wal-Mart, and Toys 'R' U. Target and Wal-Mart don't seem to carry them anymore here, and TRU has the same three we've been seeing since the movie first hit. I'm kinda bummed. I mean, I was mostly disappointed with the price, since there's a lot more plastic than die cast in them, but I bought both the Enterprise D and the refit Enterprise, and they're both good-looking, reasonably detailed little representations. The D even has the saucer separation. I was kinda hoping that even after stores stopped carrying the action figures that the ships could move into the Hot Wheels aisle and we'd see some more. I mean, I'm going to get around to picking up the Reliant, and I'd love to get my hands on the BoP, but there's at least a dozen other ships I'd like to have.
