  1. Actually, the new one isn't being developed by Monolith, so you can't blame the lack of Shogo on this one. Speaking of, in anticipation of the new one, Steam is selling the whole series thus far, including expansions and DLC, for $10.
  2. I guess it goes to show that the individual technicians and even store management can have a bigger effect than corporate policies. I'm not defending Staples as a company. We ourselves have had issues where we found ourselves loaning employees to another store because they had a backlog of work orders, some of them over a month old. But in our more immediate area, we actually have the exact opposite experience as you. That the Geek Squad at our local BB is rude, incompetent, or both. (For what it's worth, while I don't deal with my local BB's Geek Squad, I do shop there frequently and have found most of the staff to be pleasant and helpful, and have maybe twice in 10 years come across a dumb kid who was obviously bullshitting me without realizing that I knew more than he did). And of course, at my Staples I pride myself on timely, professional service. Tech services have grown at our store to the point that corporate reclassified our store and gave us a remodel. I'm thinking that it might be advertising. Best Buy's done a better job establishing the Geek Squad as something different than the blue shirts, and then advertising the Geek Squad's services. Aside from job titles, Staples doesn't really have the same distinction between the resident technicians and the salespeople, and I think the recent commercial for a promotional data transfer was the first time that Staples has really advertised tech services outside the fliers in the Sunday papers.
  3. I liked Modern Warfare quite a bit. I liked World at War, which was surprising because it was the first non-Infinity Ward CoD I liked. I thought Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops were both boring as hell. Modern Warfare 2 was especially contrasted with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 that came out around the same time. Needless to say, I've got no interest in Modern Warfare 3. CoD is pretty played out. Shooters in general are kind of played out. The only FPS that's really on my radar at all right now is FEAR 3, and even that I doubt will be as good as the first two.
  4. Best Buy? Why not Staples? In the interest of full disclosure, I'm currently working as a technician at a Staples store. I'm not implying that Best Buy's services are worse or that Staples is better, just curious why Best Buy seems to come to mind for a lot of people first.
  5. I don't think anyone really doubts that it is or that it fits the definition. I just foresee the government wringing their hands and treating it more like a couple of kids breaking a few windows and spraying graffiti. But this is obviously much more serious, and I think taking a step as severe as putting cyber terrorists in Gitmo would set a precedent that frightens off the kids who are involved because they think it makes them cool or rebels.
  6. I don't disagree, and I wasn't being facetious. I'm hoping that if we catch a few of them and put them in Gitmo we'll scare more of them straight.
  7. Have the government equate cyber terrorism to regular terrorism, declare Lulzsec terrorists, and toss 'em in Gitmo. EDIT: No one's been named or taken credit for it, but Bioware's been hacked now too.
  8. Bungie has to have something else in the pipeline... they don't have Halo anymore. Bungie split with Microsoft in '07 and now has a publishing deal with Activision Blizzard, and Microsoft kept Halo in the breakup. The Halo HD remake and Halo 4 are being doing by a team at Microsoft Game Studios called 343 Industries.
  9. Anyone try the El Shaddai demo yet? The gameplay feels a little weak at the moment (there's basically a button to attack, a button to block, and a button to steal an enemy's weapon when you've beaten on him enough), but the visual presentation is quite stunning. My personal favorite moment in the demo is a short 2D platforming segment that has you jumping along waves.
  10. Unless I can kill a buddy from half a map away with the pistol, I'm done with Halo.
  11. I really don't like the mecha design for this.
  12. It could have been a cliffhanger, and undoubtedly the new studio will pick up on it and run with it. Personally, I always saw the ending of Halo 3 as a subtle "Halo could be the prequel to Marathon" sort of thing.
  13. Bungie might have done all with Halo they wanted to, but Microsoft without Halo is like Nintendo without Mario. When they've run out of ideas (you mean they haven't?), when other FPS franchises are consistently better (which has been the case since before Halo 3), Microsoft will still be pimping Halo.
  14. There's a box. It plugs into the TV, and discs go inside it. That thing you're looking at is just the controller. Think of the Wii U as an HD DS, where the top screen is your TV, and the bottom screen is on the controller.
  15. Have you seen the new controller? I have a soft spot for Nintendo. I figure I'll probably get a 3DS when they come down a little, or when there's something I really want to play. Because I grew up with Nintendo systems, and I like Nintendo's first-party franchises. But I didn't play with the N64 as much as the PlayStation. The Gamecube would have been totally unremarkable if not for the first-party stuff. And I've played with the Wii even less than the Gamecube. I'm at a point in my life where my cash flow and free time don't really support three consoles, PC, and two handhelds (not counting smartphones or tablets). Unless the future of Xbox and PlayStation start to look crappy, it's the gimmicky consoles with the stupid names (Wii U? Seriously?) that are going to be the first to go.
  16. PSP2/NGP announced at the PS Vita, $249 At that price, I think it just went from a curiosity to a purchase for me.
  17. I don't have more than one account. And I already own Wipeout HD, which would have been the only other one of the five that interested me. Thanks anyway, though.
  18. Finally got in, grabbed LBP and inFAMOUS for PS3. Haven't looked into the PSP stuff.
  19. If it's priced anything like the Universe version was, it should be no more than $49.99. As for RTS Prime... not a single Walmart (checked two), K-Mart (one), Target (three), or TRU (two) ever stocked any RTS Tranformers. Not a one. I lucked out and found Jazz and Tracks at a Kohl's, but it doesn't look like they stocked anything beyond that. I'm not happy about that. I was especially looking forward to Thundercracker, Scourge, and Wheeljack.
  20. Yeah, I don't know. I like that he's colored more accurately to the G1 version, but I have the Universe re-release. I don't know if a new paint job is worth the price.
  21. At that price, I'm sold. I guess Hasbro figures they can't charge too much for him or people like me would bitch that he doesn't have the trailer and import the Japanese one. Yeah, the Japanese one is expensive, but a big selling point was that he's Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime. Hasbro can call the US version Rodimus Prime until they're blue in the face, but no space winnebago means it's MP Hot Rod.
