That Unicron is pretty boss, and I'd definitely get him if I didn't have one already. But I picked up the Armada/Universe 2.0 reissue, and I really can't convince myself that I want to spend the money on a more move-accurate repaint, especially with his colors so muted compared to the Takara release. I mean, I think it looks better than the Takara version (the Takara version was too dark and too orange compared to the on-screen version), but I think it's less distinct when compared with the Armada version.

I wish it was. And you'd think I'd know better, too, what with having owned the first three versions of Street Fighter II (I missed Super Turbo), and having figured to wait until Third Strike for SFIII. I think I'm just done with Street Fighter. They haven't done any DLC characters yet, aside from the preorder bonuses, have they? Just costumes. I could see them releasing an Ultimate MvC3 Super Turbo Plus Alpha that has Megaman, in the hopes that the fans who wanted him in the first place will buy the game for the umpteenth time. For the record, I'm pretty sure twelve new characters have been announced for UMvC3, and I'm pretty sure they're Vergil, Firebrand, Nemesis, Strider, Phoenix Wright and Frank West on the Capcom side, Ghost Rider, Nova, Iron Fist, Hawkeye, Dr Strange, and Rocket Raccoon for Marvel. So still no Megaman. -

Yeah, I already sold Street Fighter IV to buy Street Fighter IV Turbo, and now they've got Super Street Fighter IV. And I got MvC3 near launch, and I'm not real thrilled to hear that they're re-releasing it already. And still no Mega Man! -

Thanks for the input, Az. I am seriously on the fence on this one. One thing I forgot to mention, though, is that I'm pretty much stuck buying it from Best Buy. It's a financing thing. I was really hoping that Best Buy would actually sell off their old display unit, since it'd likely be reduced for being open box and then stacked with a coupon for another 10% off of any open box item. And since they don't have it hooked up to anything, it's not as beat up as some of their other displays. On the other hand, though, I might get more use out of the extra processing power than the optical drive, since I do have a USB one. And the mini's hard drive is a pain to swap out. Either way, I'll have to Newegg some extra RAM for it. -

It's been awhile since I owned a Mac, and I'd been thinking about getting one. It's hard to explain exactly why... in addition to a pair of laptops and a computer I use as a media box in the bedroom, my my computer space is an L with my main computer (a Windows 7 tower) on a 27" monitor and a second Ubuntu computer on a 22". I want a Mac in the space as well, and a Mac mini should fit in and share the 27"er without too much fuss. As I previously mentioned, the Windows tower is my main machine, and I use it for media, games, internet, the works. The Mac would be used for light media and mostly web browsing (as I wasn't very pleased to spend 9 hours cleaning a virus of the main computer awhile back). I do have a bunch of older Mac software from my previous Mac on CDs and DVDs. Since this isn't going to be my main computer, I'm not looking to spend a lot. I've basically got two options. Option 1: the newly refreshed Mac mini. The big pros here is that this one sports a larger hard drive and faster processor, as Apple bumped it to a 500GB hard drive and a new 2.3GHz dual-core Sandy Bridge Core i5. It also has a lower retail price at $599. I was shocked to see that it's still only sporting 2GB of RAM, though, and went back to integrated Intel graphics (HD 3000). They also eliminated the optical drive. I have a Memorex USB DVD burner, but I definitely would have preferred to have a drive in the unit. Option 2: try to find the older model. I'm trading down to a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo and a 320GB hard drive, sure. But what I'm getting back is the integrated dual-layer DVD burner and a GeForce 320m. Same 2GB of RAM. The main deterrents would be that they'll be harder to find and probably more expensive. Apple's retail was $699, and Best Buy currently lists them at $664.05. If you guys were in my shoes, what would you do? -
Sorry, A7. Guess you'll have to settle for the silver medal. Anyway, I think I've a touch of ADD, and I have a hard time sitting though a lot of movies. Sometimes, if I really enjoy it, I can watch a movie, but I very rarely re-watch them, and in a lot of cases I'll get bored and won't even finish a movie the first time. So what do I remember about The Island? I renting it with my wife, getting bored maybe an hour in, and leaving my poor wife to watch it by herself while I ran to Burger King. I think my wife liked it, though, but she's kind of the opposite of me. I get bored watching most movies, but she can watch and be entertained by almost anything.

I'll give you kudos for using the search and not creating a new topic, but five years? That's gotta be some kind of record.

Assault Survive suffered for deviating too much from the basic formula and being TOO grindy. Like I said, I liked that you only needed to roll one pilot to play all the missions. And I didn't mind that you could buy mobile suits (it worked in the Frontier games) as an alternative to unlocking them. But as I said before, the multi-map missions sucked. It left you with fewer missions overall, and made some of them downright punishing. It sucked that you could be playing a mission for a half an hour only to die and basically have to start over... especially on a portable system! And while buying mobile suits was ok, buying parts and developing mobile suits by using crappy ones over and over (on a limited number of missions), only to have to buy the result (often at ridiculous prices) was a pain. I hope Keith is right. I think a next-gen Vita or PS3 version with better graphics, more campaigns, and progression more like the Frontier games or GBU would be ideal. I just hope they don't pull a 3DS and give us a weak sauce version that has less content than GBU or AS. -

I don't know. I thought that Ultimate Frontier was a major improvement from Ace, but from Ultimate to Triangle I was pretty minor. I'll give them credit for not recycling half a game like they did with the Gundams and serving up some new missions, but progression was pretty similar and some of the units I was hoping for were still missing. As for Gundam, while I'd love for them to ditch the multi-map thing, I liked that they were still including more of Gundam and that you didn't have to create three pilots to play all the missions in Assault Survive. I think there's still plenty of material left to farm. They could still add campaigns for Unicorn and Victory... if they wanted to go all out, they could add campaigns for Wing, SEED Destiny, X, Turn A, and 00 Season 2, with the Extra missions mostly focused on manga and side story material. And I'd love it on the NGP, if the thing stays region free. Or even a PS3 version would be great. -

I'm not sure about gameplay or mission structure, but there's only maybe a third of the mobile suits, focused on the Gundam and Z Gundam movie trilogies plus Char's Counterattack. There's a few Unicorn MS in there too. It sounds a bit rushed, honestly. As for Gundam Memories, I don't think it's an Artdink game. From what I've read, it's not supposed to be very good. -

Why is it that Namco Bandai only occasionally localizes a crappy Gundam game, and never the good ones (aside from maybe Dynasty Warriors Gundam, but doesn't Koei have some say in that one?)? Case in point, the fantastic Gundam Battle series. Each one is a fantastic game. I often find myself replaying Gundam Battle Universe. Gundam Assault Survive was good and had some good ideas (like allowing access to Federation and Zeon missions with the same pilot and partners), but combining missions into single multi-map missions kind of killed it for me. Replaying GBU again got me thinking that it's been awhile since I've heard of a new Gundam Battle game. Turns out, there is a new one, but Artdink switched systems on us. Gundam: The 3D Battle was released for Nintendo's new 3DS in Japan. Well, I figured I'd get a 3DS sooner or later, and a new Gundam Battle game would justify it (since I'm pretty sure I've spent more time on with the Gundam Battle series than every other game I've played on my PSP combined). Except the 3DS is region locked. And there's no plans for a US release at this time. -
Might be a bad example. Gravity was considered a law (Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation). The law of gravity fails to explain perturbations in Mercury's orbit, though, and was superseded by Einstein's theory of general relativity. And relativity doesn't work with quantum mechanics, leading to quantum gravity theory. Or loop quantum gravity, if you want to try to reconcile quantum mechanics with general relativity.

The Amazing Spider-Man, on Blu-Ray/DVD Nov. 9, 2012

The more I see it, the less I like the new costume. -
See, I don't buy this argument at all. Can you imagine someone saying back in '06 or '07 that they shouldn't use the designs that you now claim to be "finely engraved into the mainstream society" because they're too different from the G1 designs that were not just the mainstream image of Transformers, but to this day deeply embedded in popular culture? And yet, despite giving Transformers a radical new look, it and its sequels have all gone on to be a huge box office successes. In fact, despite fair-to-poor reviews and coming off as sequel to the almost universally-panned Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon is only $45 million or so away from surpassing the first film. The lesson to be learned from this is that people will pay to see giant robots smashing stuff. I don't think the "mainstream" cares as much about how said robots look as Transformers fans do. Besides, a reboot with a new look would give Hasbro a chance to sell more toys instead of hoping that people will buy yet another Deluxe Bumblebee, and experience tells us that Hasbro will gladly kill off a cast of beloved characters to make room for new toys.

That may be true. And, as has been pointed out, we're not going to get a reboot. There are just those of us who hoped, with Bay gone, that we might get a reboot, needed or not. And you're not alone in liking them. But there are a lot of people who hate them. I number myself among them. I think they look like crap onscreen, and make for lousy toys to boot. Because the potential for a reboot, no matter how quickly shot down, is the best shot at getting new designs, turning the discussion from "should they/shouldn't they reboot" to "they should reboot and come up with better designs/they shouldn't reboot because the current designs are awesome". Unless you think that visual standard looks like model vehicles run through a blender and then glued back together in vaguely humanoid shapes with insect heads. Then a reboot with new designs is a great idea. I'd say it's both. Let me put this out in the open... I still don't like the designs from Animated, and I collected few of the toys. But you're absolutely right, Animated was very well-written, and most fans would have preferred another season of it to the new Prime cartoon. And certainly if the Bayformers movies were written better with memorable characters, then yeah, they'd be entertaining movies that'd make the designs easier to swallow. But I still wouldn't like them. Conversely, Robots in Disguise had a weak story, silly characters, and juvenile jokes. The Bayformers movies are, faults aside, more entertaining. But it had some great designs, including my second-favorite Optimus Prime. Not keen on watching the show ever again, but I'd gladly fork over my money for re-issue or "Generations" versions of the toys.

I'm not saying that technology shouldn't advance, or that we have to be 100% faithful to G1. The IDW G1 series did a great job of updating the alt modes of most of the characters (the Seekers as F-22s, Prowl as a 350z, etc). What I'm saying is that you can update the characters while staying true to them at the same time instead of slapping a G1 name onto a random character with no resemblance at all to the G1 character. The Bay movies only even attempted to give maybe four of five characters any personality whatsoever, and of those characters only Prime and Bumblebee (and later Shockwave) bore any resemblance to the namesake.

If I were to get a pony car, I'd get a black on black Mustang ala KITT from the 2008 Knight Rider before I'd get a black on yellow Camaro. I think the Mustang just looks better. But what do I know, I prefer Japanese compact sedans. Hence my Lancer. -
The DC Animated films have been kind of hit or miss, but Under the Red Hood was excellent. I have high hopes for this.

Trukk not munky!!! I kid, I kid. While I prefer the concept of giant robots that turn into vehicles, Beast Wars had some really good writing, and I do enjoy it. Condensation? Condescension? ...SPELLING! *shakes an angry fist*

My big complaint is that some cgi turds, lacking in personality and occasionally even names, beating on each other while stuff explodes in the background, is the first thing people are going to think of now when they hear "Transformers." See, I don't actually have a problem with that. To each his own, right? But I could do without the condensation or the derision of those I generally get along with but happen to disagree with on this point. I liked Beast Wars, Animated, and War for Cybertron. I'm open to new directions and takes on Transformers if they don't suck. But it doesn't mean that I am going to like whatever crap they stick the Transformers brand on any more than I'm going to like bacon-flavored dog treats in place of actual bacon.

"Ironhide is popular, right? Let's put Ironhide in our movie. What's he turn into? A van? Van's are lame, he's a truck now. A black truck. Ironhide is red? That's stupid, no one drives red trucks anymore. Black is the new red. Now make sure he doesn't look like a robot that turns into a truck. No one will believe that. Make him look like you put a truck into a blender. Like that will it blend guy, he's hardcore! And this guy? He's... um... screw it, the suits at Hasbro can name him. Just call him Fred in the script. It doesn't matter, none of these guys have any personality anyway." You're right, it's so much better now. We have the same number of toy lines (two). We've had Universe/Classics/Universe 2.0/Generations/RTS since 2002, and that line has run concurrently with whatever the current show or movie was. We actually have fewer right now, because we used to have Alternators and Titanium. And that assumes we still count Generations as active even though I've seen exactly one new figure on the shelves in six months as most retailers prepped themselves for the inevitable glut of movie crap. Shows? Animated got canned, and was replaced by the more movie-ish and much duller Prime. Comics? Dreamwave got the Transformers license in 2002, and IDW started their G1 series in 2005. Sure, IDW publishes comics based on the movie-verse, but we've been enjoying Transformers well before the first Bay film. Books? We've got six, three of them movie adaptations. iBooks (the publisher, not the Apple ebook store) published at least four books set in the Dreamwave G1 series. And games? I'll grant you that there's more, but more isn't always better. None of the movie-verse games are better than the PS2 game based on Armada. And while Hasbro might consider War for Cybertron part of the Prime universe, it definitely took its design cues from G1. It's good because, in addition to being a solid shooter, it's everything that the movie-verse is NOT.

I'm hoping Bay stays gone, and we get a reboot. A live-action Transformers movie where a cab over engine truck turns into a boxy robot without a mouth. Where characters that aren't named "Optimus" look like their G1 counterparts... or at least have the same color scheme! A movie where none of the characters look like 100,000 bits of scrap metal randomly glued into a vaguely humanoid shape.

Don't know about most of the Titans, but I got Duo up to a level 4 friend by playing through the "Those Who Fight" story with Frontal.
