  1. So after a long (but merry) holiday with my family, I come home and turn on my computer for a little Skyrim time. To my shock and horror, the computer asks me to insert a proper boot device. To be on the safe side, I unplug my external hard drive (even though I've booted fine with it inserted before), and I unplug the only other piece of newish hardware installed (an Azio USB Bluetooth adapter that I've also booted fine with before). Nope, still asking me for a boot device. And of course, I can't remember the key to get into the BIOS, and my monitor is one of those ones that goes to sleep the instant there's no signal but takes forever to wake up once it's found it. Hitting F8 brought the startup menu, though. I pointed it at the right hard drive, and it booted fine. As near as I can figure, the problem seems to be (and I'll double check on this when I finish running a hard drive scan and can reboot) that I have two hard drives, one with Windows and most of my programs, and one for my downloads. Somehow, the non-bootable storage drive jumped ahead of the Windows drive on the boot order list. My questions would be how, why, and how do I prevent it from happening in the future?
  2. I guess by now it's more "what did you get" than "what do you hope to get." Me, I got a Logitech K750 Solar Keyboard for Mac. It's nice that, after owning my Mac Mini since August, I finally have a Mac-specific keyboard. Not that they're that different from regular keyboards, but my first Mac was a laptop. I learned the OSX keyboard shortcuts, and if you use a regular keyboard, option and command are inverted. Now I need a new Unifying Receiver-compatible mouse...
  3. I played Star Trek Online for awhile, and I know a number of other board members did. I canceled my sub, but I plan on playing again when it goes free-to-play in early 2012.
  4. I love the Lonely Island. The first album was better than the second, but the second was worth it for "Jack Sparrow" and "I Just Had Sex."
  5. I've listened to plenty of kpop in my time, but quit because it seemed like every boy band wanted to be H.O.T, Sechskies, or G.O.D and every girl band wanted to be S.E.S, FinKL, or Baby VOX. (And every solo female wanted to be BoA). This is the first act I've heard that has me rethinking that.
  6. I'd say just try and get a copy of the 20th anniversary DVD. Most reviewers though the remastering was a huge improvement (although it does tend to pinken some of the reds), it's got full screen and widescreen, it's got 2.0 and 5.1 audio, and tons of bonus content.
  7. I wasn't aware of the blu-ray, but I have the 20th anniversary DVD. It's pretty good. As you've likely heard by now, it's remastered, with a widescreen version and the theatrical version, which was apparently 4:3. The colors are a little over-saturated at times, but on the whole it looks pretty good.
  8. A poll that fails to include Zaku III is no poll worth considering.
  9. Semi-spoilery concept art for Fall of Cybertron. I must have a FoC Shockwave. Get on it, Hasbro.
  10. Best Album: Patrick Stump's Soul Punk. I'd have never guessed that the lead singer from Fall Out Boy would release a solo album of material that is so different from FOB, and so good. Best Game: I was thinking Deus Ex, but them I played Arkham City. Which, in turn, is supplanted by Skyrim, which I'm still playing. But despite the hours I spent on those three games, the most fun I had playing a game all year, and indeed in a long time, was Super Mario 3D Land, so I'm going to have to go with that. Best Anime: Gundam Unicorn. The gorgeous UC mecha really make up for the fact that I don't think I understand the plot. Best Movie: Nothing stood out as being out and out amazing, but there were a couple of movies I enjoyed. I'd probably say Thor. Toy: MP Hot Rod. It's either him, or one of the Generations deluxes that came out this year. Best shows on TV, I'm saying a three-way tie: How I Met Your Mother, Community, and The Big Bang Theory. The latter, I'd actually put off watching for awhile, because I thought it was something regular people watched to laugh at us nerds. I was missing out for far too long. More than stuff, though, I think 2011 is really memorable for all the life-changing stuff that went on. Wife started a new job. Then a friend of mine got married. Then I got a promotion. Then close friend of mine (who is conveniently married to another close friend) bought their first house and had their first baby. Then I bought my first house. Followed by a third friend buying his first house. It'd have really been great if I could find a new job too, but hey, gotta save something for 2012, right?
  11. Oh yeah, I do kinda remember having this discussion when MP Hot Rod came out. You need to post more so I remember you. Hey, I'm allowed to be anti-social. I worked at that mall for five years! The worst was when I worked December 23rd, 2006. Left work at 5:00, couldn't manage to get onto 30 until 5:45. Yeah, I don't really recall finding any Generations or RTS figures at Marshalls before, but I figure it's worth a look, since Marshalls and TJ Maxx are the same thing, I think. And it's not like I've never found any Transformers there. Besides, I work at the Staples in the same plaza.
  12. You live around me? Cool! I'm probably avoiding the mall until after Christmas, but I'll give it a check (it's a TJ Maxx, BTW). There is a Marshall's in Greensburg, it's by the Sam's Club. I can check there tomorrow after work. As for Junkheap, not that it does you a lot of good now that you've already got him, but I've seen him at Target. I think the one in Greensburg, but it might have been the one in North Huntingdon.
  13. I doubt he cares about that, since Cisco's not a Japanese company. You want sales, you do one or a combination of three things. You innovate, you make a superior product, and or you sell your product for less. At some point, those "great old Japanese giants" stopped doing all three. Sony's televisions are a great example. They've failed to innovate, they've charged more, and they've done so without the benefit of being able to claim a superior product. That's not to say that Sony's TVs are bad, mind you... there's just no compelling reason to pay more for a Sony when the quality is as good on an LG or a Samsung. You work hard for your money. Do your research, and buy what you feel is the best value. Don't waste money on brand loyalty, and if you do find yourself inclined to support a particular brand, do it because they make a good product, not because they're based in the same country your anime comes from.
  14. I dunno. Of all the Classics/Generations/Universe figures to be released in the past several years, the only one I never had any opportunity to buy was Perceptor. Two TRUs, two Walmarts, two K-marts, three Targets, and a Kohls, and I never once saw a Perceptor. Bummed as I am, that still means that I was able to find the rest. That's a pretty good track record, and it means that if Hasbro released a combiner team as separate pieces, I'd expect good odds to find and collect them all. The trick is, instead of giving us kind of crappy combiners (Bruticus being the best of the three Energon combiners), give us limbs that are solid toys outright. Make me want them on their own merits, and make the combining thing a bonus.
  15. They should do it the old-fashioned way. Instead of releasing one big expensive set, release five individual Combaticons that are solid figures in their own right (maybe five deluxes, or four deluxes and a voyager). Collect all five, and stick 'em all together. Seriously, I don't know why Hasbro hasn't done it already. They do it with their Marvel figures all the time. Buy five X-Men, get the parts to make Apocalypse, etc.
  16. WfC is like $20 on Amazon, and a 79.45% average score according to Gamerankings. What are you waiting for?
  17. Hey, I was just coming to post that video! That's what I get for working late today.
  18. Universal chargers don't always play nice with Dells. I'd look to see if you can find an OEM charger first.
  19. I tried the Voltron demo. It's kind of... meh. If the demo is any indication, it looks like you spend most of you time in a single lion (with co-op play), and it's kind of mediocre twin stick shooter. The demo was sorely lacking in actual Voltron. On the plus side, I love the cartoon clips.
  20. I was seriously thinking about picking up the Metal Gear Solid HD collection, but I realized that they included Peace Walker instead of The Twin Snakes. I'm glad the Peace Walker expands on the story from MGS3, but without some version of the first game in the series, the collection feels incomplete.
  21. I dunno. I've had mine for... I guess at least three months, since I bought it before I moved. Mine's held up fine. I played with him quite a bit, and have transformed him several times.
  22. And how is it? I did pick up Dead or Alive today. And I noticed a lot of placing are selling Ridge Racer 3D for $20. I'm going to have to add that to the list. While Ridge Racer 6 and 7 were pretty forgettable, I loved Ridge Racer on the PSP.
  23. I saw the new episode of Unicorn. I'm having a hard time following it, though. Too much time between episodes; I forget what's going on. Banagher and the Zeon captain were in the desert for some time before I could even recall how Banagher wound up with the Grancerias crew in the first place.
