Dengeki Hoppy coverage of the Tamashii Nations 2022 event: https://hobby.dengeki.com/event/1740962/ Not really anything that excites me a lot. The Deathscythe but it is too warm in color to what it looks in my mind. The rest of the Metal Build we had already seen before. I’m excited for the Providence Gundam. Glad this is not dead, but uff, it is massive: More flyers to equip Strike Gundam reissues with:

Funny that you mention LEGO since I also have the feeling they are way past their prime in the 2010s . With their excessive focus on collector sets neglecting the growth of their core audience (i.e. kids). Their sets are tailored to a single build (the one on the box) preventing kids from building their own toys due to the excessive use of small, specialized pieces (i.e. the reverse problem the sets in the 2000s had but with the same result). If you are a "Master Builder" you can come up with impressive builds; but kids don’t have this level of experience yet. If I would have to introduce LEGO to a kid nowadays the only line I could recommend wholeheartedly would be the Minecraft sets because they allow you to build your own worlds in an easy way… …but that might be a discussion for a different thread.- 17164 replies

I was having the same thought regarding Hasbro’s upper management. What we are seeing now is the second to last wave of products that were developed under the old leadership (if we assume toys have a 2 year development cycle). I don’t know how big of an impact Brian Goldner had on the direct development of the Transformers brand personally, but a CEO can create an environment were creatives can strive and not everything is focused on maximizing the profit to the detriment of the product. Anyhow, @mikeszekely I got an email from Zavvi today that the release date for HasLab Victory Saber is 11/25/22 so I assume he will be out before the beginning of December. I’m excited.- 17164 replies

Is the parts count higher or lower compared to the original toy? I've never owned the original toy but it looks like a replica of it to me.

I hope you (and I) will win the WC lottery with Star Saber. Over at TFW a few more images were posted from the Chinese copies that got send out early by mistake. Some of them seem to have massive issues with cleanliness of the the paint applications: https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/transformers-haslab-victory-saber-revealed-crowdfunding-campaign-live.1219492/page-1013#post-20781227- 17164 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Scyla replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think you are out of options. There is not really a Star Saber that goes well with the mainline toys. On top of all that the unofficial transforming 3rd party versions are all varying degrees of terrible (Star Blade > Kadmos > MP Star Saber). The best version of Star Saber is the non transforming Flame Toys Kuro Kara Kuri Star Saber which is stellar but it is also in the IDW style. I have written rants about the available 3rd party options: IronTrans Star Blade and PlanetX Kadmos. You can find them in this very thread. I could dig up some links if you are interested. Honestly, I would wait and see if the aftermarket prices for HasLab Star Saber stabilize and buy one on the secondary market if it needs to fit into your collection of other mainline Transformers. If you are interested in Kadmos I would also buy their Victory Leo called Nemeios. It comes with a new head for Kadmos which is one of the biggest flaw of the original toy. Be aware that my Kadmos has super weak knees that can’t keep the toy stable so hopefully you would get a better copy (or maybe someone will release an upgrade for them). I doubt any copy of Kadmos out there will be able to stand up with Nemeios attached. If you just need the best Star Saber toy there is and money is not a problem buy the Flame Toys one; it is spectacular and one of my favorite pieces in my collection. Sadly he is also unable to be combined with their Victory Leo.- 9275 replies

Backers of Haslab Star Saber are getting notification mails that they should check if their addresses are still correct wince shipping is close. If you backed the project via Hasbro Pulse you should check if your shipping address is still correct. But the new MP Starscream alt mode looks like the cartoon: I think that was the main goal of the designer: Maximum toon accuracy in all modes. I’m sure they could do a real life F-15 if they want to. [edit:]- 9275 replies

While I think that spreading tax money around is one reason another one is probably available resources. If Lockheed has available resources for engineering and building planes but the NG workforce is blocked with other projects you might get your precious late. Which is an important point especially if the current generation of gear is approaching its EoL. Plus aircraft engineers probably don’t grow on trees especially when you are talking about defense related projects.

Holiday Prime looks good. A nice divergence from the regular shtick. I would totally buy a Nemesis Prime version.- 17164 replies

I just noticed that, with the Metal Build Hi-Ni Gundam in hand, the Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher will be ginormous. Not as big as the 150 Gerbera Straight but still massive:

You are right. Usually AE is pretty good with putting the preorders up. So I hoped I could be done with it today.

No Dynames preorder on anime-export yet. Luna Park seems to have opened up but it is a ¥9000 markup. Preorder is 10/31/22 right?

Thanks, I will try that. [edit:] Is there a way to will the old Tamashii Nations release calendar back into existence? After the redesign is seems unusable to me. Does Bandai not have enough money for a UI/UX designer? Also do Japanese smartphones scroll sideways for some reason? https://sp.tamashii.jp/item_schedule/

Finally got my MB Hi-Nu and it is massive. He has so much more mass and presence that I probably have to change my display so he is not dominating it. The suit even dwarfs the Strike Freedom that is currently sitting next to it. Couple of thoughts: I don’t like how limited the head movement is. Maybe I’m overlooking some joint but with the high collar he can’t even look left and right properly. Attaching the Fin Funnels is a pain. I wonder what solution Bandai would implement for a MB Nu Gundam (can’t be the one for the MG Ver. Ka). I also don’t understand why the effect parts for the beam sabers don’t fit into the beam rifle or the gun in his forearm. The tolerances are just a tiny bit off. Something has to be said about the general design of the Metal Build Hi-Nu. I was on the fence when it was first announced, derivating too much from the source material (and my beloved MG Ver. Ka kit). Having the piece in hand it is absolutely stunning. However there has to be said about the sculpt of the Ver. Ka. Katoki Hajime managed to marry the blocky, functional design of a war machine with the sleek roundness of a high performance Formula One car which makes it special. This is something that the Metal Build didn’t manage to capture.

You right, I forgot that a lot of units are already allotted for the Japanese market (other than the Ghost Rider set). Personally, I just don’t see the value in the set. However I hope it gets funded for the people who backed it already. I might be salty because the next HasLab project is not G1 Overlord.- 17164 replies

I don’t know if this will be a success. I probably won’t buy it and I did order Star Saber. In my mind the value ist just not there for $180. This should have been a Commander Class release imho. Plus inflation is a real thing (at least in Europe) and Christmas is coming up so people probably will spend their money elsewhere- 17164 replies

I‘m aware of how the video game market in the US developed after the crash and how Nintendo dominated the market until the arrival of the Sega Genesis. In Europe it was probably similar. As I said knew someone who owned a NES and saw them in stores. However I grew up In a rural area so computers weren’t that present in the households (I got my first PC in 95). And I wasn’t particularly interested in gaming because most gaming systems I saw were arcade machines. My mom would never give me money to play and the prices were much too high to spend my scarce allowance on an experience that might be over in a couple of seconds (I tried it once or twice). I don’t know the exact prices but one game was expensive. Maybe 2 to 3 times the amount of my weekly allowance. Other places with arcades were Billard parlors but they were off limits since you had to be 18 or over to enter since they sold alcohol and people smoked in them. However that all changed when I brought back an original GameBoy from a trip to the states with my parents in 1990 I believe. I can still remember going into a ToysRus taking the little slips of paper for the system and Super Mario Land to the cash register and retrieving the console from the booth. The GameBoy was released later that year in Europe and suddenly all my friends had GameBoys too and I could trade games and talk to people about it. What really got it going was the release of the SNES in 92. The biggest grocery store in town had one unit on display were you could play Super Mario World. I would spend hours after school (or even during school hours) waiting for my chance to play the game. I had to have that system. To me it looked as good as any arcade game I‘ve ever seen at this point. (the NES never looked that good) And you could play it at home in color (only my grandma had a color TV; we still had a black and white one); imagine that. So I begged my mom to get me one for Christmas. It was an insane request to make. Never would my mom spend this much on a single present. The price of the system was three times the amount of all my Christmas gifts combined. But somehow my mom had pity with me and gave into my begging. So I was gifted an SNES as a combined birthday and Christmas gift from my whole family when the Super Mario All-Stars bundle came out in 93. My life was not the same afterwards. And again suddenly all the kids at school had one. You could buy the games in local stores and magazines were available covering what happened in the video game world, like the equivalent of the Nintendo Power. This was something I never noticed with the NES. So maybe I was too young for it or just not interested.

I think the Jeremy Parish NES Works series is excellent. But I have a hard time paying attention since my systems as a child were the original GameBoy and the SNES and I have no nostalgia for the NES or any of its games. Maybe with the exception of Ice Climber and Xevious, games the mom of a friend played when I came over playing with his He Man toys.
