Transformers the Movie

It's nice to know that Transformers and Chevy have joined forces for a cross-marketing Chevy sales event. Oy... -

Local news is saying that the police are investigating it as a homicide, but that could easily be procedure in such bizarre circumstances. Initial autopsy results are expected tomorrow. I remember back in Madison, WI when I lived with this guy Kelly and he was really into wrestling. So Monday nights, before we went to the bars (I was a bartender myself and so I had odd nights off), we'd watch Raw. I made a joke and kept pronouncing Benoit's name as "Ben-Oyt", because Kelly grew up in Milwaukee and there is a town nearby called Beloit (pronounced, you guessed it, Bel-Oyt). One of the few wrestlers I remember, so this is kind of hard to take. I tell you, though, this is some crazy stuff. I'm curious what the hell happened. -

I don't know man. Is that for real? No real news site is showing anything about that, and CNN is still flashing the fact that (who?) the singer of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" has passed away. If it's true, that sucks, and condolences to the family. But if it's a WWE marketing ploy, I'd be kind of pissed. -
...and, apparently, Universal dropped the project. Man, Hollywood is never giving the love to the anime projects they should be!!!

The Dark Knight Thread

That is exactly what I was thinking. When Al Roker said "Bat Pod", and I saw the wheels, I thought: "Escape pod for the Tumbler, yo." -

They had that in Today this morning on NBC. Al Roker called it a "Bat Pod" while Meredith Viera straddled it. That was a disturbing site. -
Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
the white drew carey replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I sure hope SK doesn't have the legs stored away in the belly and then pop out when it tranforms like the YF/VF-22... That is one of the wonkiest, and most disappointing, examples of anime magic in VF transformation. -

I like the fact that none of the preliminary sketches of the heads show any "faces." -
I'm thinking of re-reading the book, then watching all three movies in a row. Then decide which is best.

I would say that the Omega Man is loosely based on I Am Legend (novel). They made a lot of changes to it. But Ginrai is completely right that the novel influenced a lot of movies, either as adaptations or otherwise. You chould check out how many of Richard Matheson's works have been adapted, many times with himself as a screenwriter.

Yeah, Charlton Heston was in some pretty good movies, but he wasn't the reason they were good. In fact, his "One Trick Pony" acting method usually brought a bit of campiness to serious roles.

Need help ID'ing a submarine
the white drew carey replied to the white drew carey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Looks like Wiki is out of date: http://navysite.de/ssn/ssn586.htm Last sentence before General Characteristics: "Towed to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard at Bremerton, Wash., the TRITON is awaiting her turn in the Navy's Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program since then." p.s.- Here's what I believe to be the SSN-23 USS Jimmy Carter in drydock, with some Ohio class subs tied up at the piers. I'm making this assumption because it is a bit longer than the attack subs, and we all know the Jimmy Carter had a large section added to her hull for special ops, which makes her about 100 feet longer than the other two Seawolf Class boats. -

Hmmm... I may have found an answser: The SSRN-586 USS Triton. The only sub fitted with two reactors AND a presidential suite. It's awaiting a drydock check and then will probably be scrapped for good. -
Need help ID'ing a submarine
the white drew carey replied to the white drew carey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If it's an SSBN, it's gotta be way old school. I didn't include it in the image, but theres some SSBNs nearby, and their shape in the water is the same as the SSNs in this picture (rounded at the bow and stern). What gets me is this one comes to points at the bow and stern as it sits in the water, which indicates a much different hull shape than the type U.S. has used for nearly half a century. It's cool, because you can also see the SSN-23 Jimmy Carter in drydock nearby. -
Hey fellow MWers. I was putzing around on Google Earth, checking out the naval base at Bremerton, WA, and found this oddly shaped submarine. I was curious if anyone know which sub it is.

Cool. I read somewhere that you can use the PS2 component cable for the PS3, so no worries there. Thanks Team MW!!! -

Well, hey! Thanks Vince and Gaijin! That helps. I have no worries running my sound through optical audio. Gaijin- Question: You said component will be less of a hassle if HDCP is finnicky... can I still get HD through my component cables? (Like I said... i am dumm with this stuff). -
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - <<Season 1>>
the white drew carey replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
To me, they just look like Seed designs all over again. Maybe it's the "flexibility" that the suits possess in the bit we've seen, but the dynamic poses are definitely Seed-inspired. I'm already guessing that I'll pass on this one. -
The PlayStation 3 Thread!
the white drew carey replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
OK. I'm a real idiot when it comes to this HD stuff, so let me toss out a question and see if my fellow MWers know what's up: I've been reading some vague, and contradictory stuff on the web (not from sites themselves, but rantings and ravings from end-users) about the PS3 working on my TV. I've got a Westinghouse LTV-32w1 flat-screen LCD which is "HD-ready" via a DVI-HDCP connector. 1) Will this give me the HD if I hook up a PS3 to it? Some things I've read say no, while others say yes. 2) I've also seen someone say that while the games work, blu-ray movies don't. Anyone know what may be up with that? Any help you guys can give would be great. Or, if there is an article or site which I probably have missed that can provide answers, you can point me that way, as well. Thanks!!! -
Battlestar Galactica Discussion
the white drew carey replied to HoveringCheesecake's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Yeah. It's good that there is a plan to end it, but it still stinks because very good shows are hard to come by and when BSG leaves there air, there will be a void that is going to be very, very hard to fill.
