If nothing else, the Xenosaga series had some amazing boss battle themes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCTvSX4d-ck I still don't how to pronounce Metempsychosis; Ω Res Novae was at least mentioned in-game many times. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAF3k7ak55U (it doesn't get *really* cool until 2 mins in)

Hi-Def and Home Theater Thread 2
David Hingtgen replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
LED backlighting seems nice, but I don't see a massive jump--it's still not implemented as well as it should be. Should basically give an LED to each pixel. THEN it'd be impressive as heck. OLED is still "5 years away"--which is what they said 5 years ago, and I think 10 years a go...- 376 replies

I think the semi-gloss screens are the best compromise. Really gloss=reflections, but really flat=any light it picks up gets spread over a large area of the screen. Screen "shine" was a pretty big consideration when I picked up mine. (I don't like the glossy-black Samsung remotes either, but it's remarkably fingerprint-free---deals with them 10x better than a PS3 does) (Samsung changes their screen glossiness a lot lately--I think I got one of the last models with the "good" type of screen---even other models from that year had the newer-but-worse type)- 376 replies

I'll try to recall/revisit some this week and see if I can find a "perfect example". Still, about the whole "at least something happens/character growth/small plot point" every ep comment--yes, but the rate is absymal. Many eps seem to be 50% reycled footage, with about 1 sentence of new plot or character growth. You could chop out groups of episodes, take the 90 secs of "important" stuff from them all, and make 1 good ep out of the bits. It is darn near "annoying" to watch a half-hour ep to only get a moment of "new" stuff about a character or the plot.

Yes, Future brushes better than anything else on the planet--but it's not just "gloss-like" it is the glossiest gloss there is. New cars aren't as shiny as a nice coat of Future. Also, in my experience, "flattening" Future doesn't work well. You can cover it with flat coats, but mixing in a flattening agent to try to make it dry flat either makes it turn white or splotchy. (I tried many ratios, none worked well or consistently)

Use a mix of radome tan and white, but use more white---and add a bit of yellow IMHO.

The All Things Video Games Thread!

I posted that about a dozen posts ago. -
It's matte? Hasn't looked that way in the pics. (I'm still on the hunt for one--seems to have been found in quantity in every city in the state but mine)

Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition

I kinda saw something along those lines in one of the posts linked above. You know, I actually prefer the flightsuit... -
No, but I rewatched almost all of it a few months ago, as I hadn't seen it since the very first time with old, poor-quality copies. I found the opposite--it was more filler than I remembered. Entire episodes had "disappeared" from my memory as there was basically nothing notable. (and I like M7 more than most of the people here AFAIK, and am a big Mylene fan)
-
Really, after the first couple eps, most could be skipped until the early 20's, then much of the 30's could be skipped, then watch the 40's. It'd have been a much better series if they tossed the many filler eps, and just made it a single season with the same storyline.

I take it Grace showed up for 30 secs and looked exactly the same? -
The paint job's a lot different. A whole lot more purple, and it's a more G1 lavender purple instead of the deep magenta-purple. Silver instead of gunmetal. Red accents in the intakes. Also all the striping is painted on. No "no steps" all over.

The F-20 was not intended as a heavy bomber, it is the fastest-scrambling interceptor ever. Even the F-22 could not beat it in the first 5 (or even 10) minutes. (If Ace Combat scenarios were real, every air force would be scrambling over themselves to get some) Also, the F-20 can still carry most any typical bomb, and Mavericks for precision strikes. Just not a whole bunch of them. The "lowest-hanging" arrangement on an F-16 (or just about anything) is a triple-rail Maverick. Most weapons don't need that much clearance. And with even the A-10 not usually carrying Mavericks that way, it's kinda pointless. As for engines---the F414 would fit. 1.4:1 combat ratio with that.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III
David Hingtgen replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
What, you thought they were going to stay on board the Galactica forever? -
Not how I meant it. As Takara made it, MP TC is mostly blue, with dark blue accents. Or you could call it mostly dark blue, with VERY DARK blue accents. Either way, I meant the feet/fists etc. They should be black. Takara didn't make that so.
-
I would assume US MP TC would have black tailfins and silver intakes. Probably change all the dark blue to black (like I did). At first glance MP-07 looks about the most G1 of the 3, but up close it's no better than SW, if not worse. Of course, Hasbro could go for anime-accurate and ruin it with pale flat sky blue. (I still don't know what they were going for with the US SS----orangey scarlet accents on nigh-white base? SS is GREY with nice deep crimson red accents) Of course, that's been my complaint about most all Hasbro red TFs for years---it's all that same scarlet plastic, never a deep true red. True red is what a 1/48 Milia is made of. THAT is red plastic. Hasbro only ever gives orangey "almost red".

I wouldn't be surprised if we do basically get a Hikaru in the cockpit---I'd be very surprised if we get a nice new 1/60 Milia sculpt.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III
David Hingtgen replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Ooooh, the very end of season 2. Probably my fave moment in the series. -
US MP TC---not for a long time, if ever. Grimlock is coming next year.
-
Oh yeah, was just reminded of something that I myself always forget. For all Sukhois: It's Su. As in, Sue, or Soo. Not Ess-You. MiG is "mig"---not "emm aye gee". Same for Su. F-15 is "eff fif-teen", but Su-27 is properly "sue twenty-seven". Of course, what does that mean for An-72 and Tu-95?

Or more likely, a list of characters you may absolutely despise in a season or two...
