Not bad. Not bad. The thin pillars/roofline look like they'd offer little to no rollover protection, though. -
Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time

True, it was a needless expense--the distributors wasted time and money doing the re-dub. But that movie kicks arse, no matter what accent the characters speak in. -
The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
reddsun1 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
There's a youtube interview clip, with the producers of the '86 animated film. They actually regretted that, stated they "had no idea it would have such a big impact on the kids." Said if they had it to do over again, they would NOT have killed off Prime. "...we were just getting rid of last year's toy line, so we could have a way to introduce the next line of figures for season 2..." or something to that effect. Can't believe I'm even following this. Finally watched TF movie on cable last night; reaction was "meh" at best. Couldn't help being disappointed at how dumbed-down-for-the-lowest-common-denominator it felt. That, and the overwhelming impression that I was watching a 90+ min GM commercial... Could have been so much better a film... -

No sir, I don't like it. -
I remember collecting the first couple dozen or so comics in the series. Never did get an iss. #1--LOL, I remember thinking $40 was too much, and that was just a couple years into the running of the series. I've seen where an iss #1's gone for as high as $800 on evilBay--but then again, amazon dot com also has new issue #1's for about $3 bucks; so, take it with a grain of salt. It's been about a decade since I've collected a comic book. I remember collecting some of the early McFarlane Toys figures, and being somewhat disappointed with them because of their limited posability, i.e.: don't call 'em action figures when they're frozen in one stinking pose and only have 3-4 points of articulation! Last I'd heard--and this may well be some years ago--McFarlane was being villified as guilty of the very same dirty practices with artists that he claimed were the impetus for his leaving Marvel to start his own line? Not compensating artists fairly for character rights, that sort of thing? Did some sort of legal dispute ever come of that?

Sa-weet. But I'd take mine with old-fashioned white roundels for the numbers. I'd love to see the wind tunnel tests to see what the airflow looks like around the C-pillars [with those "winglets" vs without]. I always thought that was a bit of an odd design, separating them from the rear window like that. -

Yes, one gorgeous car. But I can't help but wonder just why new cars have to be designed with such extremely high rear deck lines? Gives them the overall wedge-like proportions of a door stop. But to quote the immortal Franco Bertollini: And now my friend, the first-a rule of Italian driving. What's-a behind me, is not important. -
They're really starting to crank up the promotion machine for this one, just hyping it up like mad. "See THE movie event of the summer!" Probably means it's going to suck donkey balls. But hey, perception is reality, eh? I've long-since given up on Hollywood ever actually staying remotely close to a comic creator's original story/incarnation/concept of a character or title. I understand that the nature of the comic medium requires that long-standing characters/stories must evolve-or-die if they're to remain successful--but sheesh, gimme a break. It's like the studio hacks just take the approach of: Nah, just use the ___ name--it's got brand recognition so saps'll pay good money to see it; just make up all the rest of the details as we go. "Sorry folks--there's profit to be had!"

Meh, the rear quarter windows and rear flanks look a bit too 370Z-ish. For all that $$$, seems like they could make it look less like a Nissan... -
I always liked the Cobra Rattler and the Dragonfly and the V.A.M.P. 'cause they reminded me of real vehicles, like the Lambo LM002 and of course, Cobra gunship and A-10, etc. etc... errata: NOT the LM002, but actually more closely it's predecessor, the Lamborghini Cheetah

Saw the first 4(?) chapters that were posted on adultswim dot com. So far, so good--not without its flaws, but pretty good all the same. New character designs will take some getting used to. Think I prefer the "Real American Hero" char designs from the 82-85 cartoon. Guess it's because that encompasses my frame of reference for GI Joe in general--watched it as a kid back in the day. Mind you, I'm NOT saying I prefer the show--with it's hokey dialogue, nonsensical plotlines, or blow-stuff-up-but-nobody-gets-hurt action--just the char designs. The pseudo-anime feel to the new ver is just a bit "off" to me. I get it that they want this version to be "not the GI Joe you watched as a kid." I understand that they want it to come across as grittier, more sophisticated; okay, no problem--I'm with you so far. But geez--you think they could get more than 3 or 4 actors to provide voices for all the male characters in the f'in show? One thing that really stuck out as a "are they kidding?" moment was the beginning of Ch 3. Scene opens with a shot of the U.S.S. Flagg, still making her way under her own steam--and STILL ON FIRE. Meanwhile, everybody's casually lounging around down in the comm room, holding a briefing. I'm no sailor by any means, but: HEL-LO? Isn't fire the single-most dangerous hazard to any combat ship at sea? Why the hell isn't anybody trying to put that sh*t out, man?!

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time

There's also the plethora of War of the Worlds adaptations that were foisted upon hapless viewers the same year as Spielberg's blockbuster hit. War of the Worlds, aka "H.G. Wells' 'The War of the Worlds'" (2005): this one is touted as a much more literal translation of the original story. IIRC, it's also been touted [on MW and elsewhere] as one of the most awful pieces of shite to ever grace a television screen. It's rumored to be so bad it's good, kinda like worthy of cult status or something. I passed up a chance to pick up a copy on DVD at a CVS once for about $9 bucks. Sometimes, I regret it; sometimes I think I should be thankful. Anybody here ever suffered through it? Can the rumors be verified? War of the Worlds, also aka "H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds" (2005): starring C. Thomas Howell. Another straight-to-video crap-fest. Like Spielberg's ver, this one also uses a contemporary setting as the backdrop. I even seem to remember this one airing on the Sci-Fi Channel--I couldn't bear more than 5-minutes of it before clutching for the remote. Apparently, someone thought it was good--or bad--enough to warrant a sequel War of the Worlds 2: The Next Wave (2008): it seems C. Thomas Howell reprises his role and comes back for more viewing torture. Who the hell does this guy think he is? Doug FU**IN McClure?!? -
LOL, isn't Brad Pitt originally from like, Missouri?

That may have been his lesson, ironically. Looks like he had on gloves + helmet, so it was probably a bona-fide track-day event. I don't think they'll let you out without an instructor at one of those until you have at least a few sessions under your belt, or an existing high-perf/competition license, etc. The audio after the impact points towards his passenger being the owner rather than an instructor though... The vid with that is out there, almost worth the search that's still priceless: Please don't hit the wall, please don't hit the wall! *WHAM* FUU***K! -

Imagine: upsized go-kart, with an 800+ HP Chev V8 bolted to it.... Yeah, drive it--if you've got the BALLS Acutally, it's a Can-Am car; McLaren M8, sans fiberglass bodywork. -

BINGO! I presume you guys are referring to the Audi crash clip, from VIR? The driver most likely did lift for the right-hand kink, and I'm guessing that only exaggerated the effect. That section is an uphill section--but it's not a constant grade, more of a stepped grade. The track levels off briefly, right at that little right-hand kink; so it's almost like going over a "hump," right at the apex. I think the mid-engine layout made it a bit more sensitive/susceptible to the circumstances. I don't know if it's more of a "perception" thing, but yes--you DO feel like you speed-up when you get onto the grass. I think the car came out of it remarkably well, under the circumstances. When in a spin, BOTH FEET IN! -

Well, I'd say: if it has to happen, much better it be at a track-day event than out on public roads with everyone else. It's sh*theads that go rocketing up and down the highways and boulevards in regular traffic that are truly retarded. That track is notorious for catching out the unwary, especially in the benign looking of spots, like "snake's back." -
Meh, I'll always like the original costumes the best. Well, except for the guys' boots. The whole thigh-boots-on-a-man look just doesn't work. If the men on the team didn't look like they were wearing stripper-boots, the suits would kick a$$ and take names. Now Jun on the other hand--it's all good baby. Work whatcha got. Something more in an officers or calvary boot length would work so much better for the look of the suit? Not quite so, er, androgynous?

Hmm, it will be interesting to see what this movie does for values on 72-76 Gran Torinos--wonder if there will be a "gold rush" of schmoes going out trying to snatch up any of the relatively few rust heaps left lying about, and bling-em-up? Pretty much universally regarded as: overweight; underpowered; dog-sh*t handling--the 72-and-up Torino can be considered a product of Detroit's "dark ages" when it comes to performance cars. -
yes, there is something decidedly disturbing about watching cute and fuzzy animals [and it's obvious they've tried to make them so] cappin' each other in the brain pan... Eng ver of Apocalypse Meow manga avail to read online here: http://www.mangavolume.com/serie-archive/m...pocalypse-meow/
