    We've mostly been discussing Lower Decks in the Picard thread, but I think the show is worthy of its own... certainly more than Picard turned out to be. I do agree the characters got more likable as the series progressed. I was disappointed how much humor got sacrificed in the finale for over-the-top action instead, however, especially after the action-packed movie parody the previous episode was. "No Small Parts" pretty much turned into exactly what "Crisis Point" was parodying. Oh, but what a glorious love-letter to the Star Trek films "Crisis Point" turned out to be! What could've been just a bunch of geeky shout-outs turned out to be a well-structured character arc for our protagonist, introduced the hilarious ship's counselor Dr. Migleemo, and featured some of the most inventive visual setpieces in Star Trek lore... without forgetting the geeky shout-outs, of course. The in-joke reference to Xon was the deepest cut yet. In fact, I'd say "Crisis Point" was the best Star Trek has been since DS9 ended. By separating the principal leads at the finale, I got the distinct impression there wouldn't be a second season... ...but I suppose it's irreverent enough that they can walk back any changes without skipping a beat.

    Neither, actually. It's a studio-scale resin kit I've made extensive modifications to. The full-sized Y-Wing prop was a little undersized -- not as much as the Falcon set, mind you -- but that's what I've based the measurements on.

    That was me. The problem with Hasbro's Falcon toys (and Kenner's before them) is that different sections are at different scales, which completely throws off the overall proportions and makes scale largely irrelevant. Many other vehicles suffer from the same problem, the AT-ATs and Y-Wings in particular.

    Silverbolt, yeah. The others look like better jets, but it's the combined gestalt I'm really taken by.

    That "Ver.2.0" label is so disingenuous... after MP-3, the "Anime color" release, and MP-11, this is at least the third version.

    Screamer3. Screamer2 was MP-11. Screamer1 (MP-3), was all about the alt. mode.

    The effects work is way beyond anything seen in the previous 50 years of Trek on television -- or most of the films, even. And I would say the same of the main cast, a very powerful ensemble of top-notch acting talent.

    I guess that's why feature-length crap like First Frontier gets completed and uploaded without incident, despite blatantly ignoring the "rules" imposed on fan films... It's so unwatchably bad, it makes Picard look like high art.

    No Valk at all, actually. Not in anything DYRL-related. Maybe you're thinking of video game promotional art...? No, that specific load-out is only seen in the TV series.

    1. Queadluun-Rau - speed, firepower, looks; it's the whole package 2. Ghoss/Gosu - huge, imposing, fast and highly maneuverable in flight 3. Bioroid Early Type II - a beefy, armored look that belies great speed and agility (but definitely needed better weaponry) 4. Garmo/Gamo - high-intensity beam cannons, long-distance flight capability, and a bulky, tough look 5. Humanoid spies! Strangely enough, three unrelated mecha shows from the early '80s (with three completely different alien societies) all include the same concept of spies infiltrating the enemy military forces using cloning technology, from genetic manipulation (Seifriet's brain alteration) to micronization (Warera, Loli, Conda) to evolutionary experimentation (Aisha). If any of these alien foes had committed fully to this course of action, they could've taken down humanity much more effectively than employing their costly (and ultimately ineffective) war machines... ...but that's probably not the direction you intended this thread to go, so I'll quit while I'm ahead.

    Re-releases don't render previous purchases any less legitimate, whether it's Arcadia reissuing Yamato molds (at significantly greater expense) or "Premium Finish" variants (at an even greater expense); minor improvements aside, it's still the same toy, and the upgraded versions usually cost more than the originals did anyway. However, when the same company produces a completely redesigned toy at the same scale as their previous series -- like Yamato's 1:60 v.2 line, or Bandai's VF-25 Renewal series -- it's certainly more galling. You're stuck with a whole line of inferior toys (that can only be sold at a significant loss), and the cost of replacing them all is daunting. Nonetheless, your initial purchase of Yamato's 1:60 v.1 line was not a stupid decision. At the time of their release, they were a significant improvement over the old 1:55 Valkyries, and they produced variants like the VF-1D that Bandai had ignored. They were the best VF-1 toys for their time, and cost less than vintage "Chunky Monkeys" went for on the secondary market, so there's no need to regret buying them... ...unless you'd bought them as an investment. The situation is far worse for Star Wars, Marvel, or Transformers collectors, whose core characters receive upgraded toys at least once a year. Earthrise Optimus is an improvement over Siege Optimus, which was an improvement over the Power of the Primes Optimus, which was an improvement over Combiner Wars Optimus; Endgame Captain America is an improvement over Infinity Wars Cap, which was an improvement over Civil War Cap, which was an improvement over Age of Ultron Cap, etc. etc. When minor fixes and upgrades are applied to reissued figures that sell for the same price the originals sold for, it can make your initial purchase feel like a stupid decision, sure. The moral of the story is, "Enjoy your toys when they're the newest and best, or don't buy them at all; either way, there's always a better version coming soon."

    Those guys are owed a public apology for War For Cybertron: Siege. Choosing to employ non-union voice talent insulted their craft and betrayed their legacy.

    Most assuredly. Well, I'll be damned... There it is, in black and white. I even have that book! I'd always assumed it was a Matchbox invention, since it never appeared in the animation. We must always be prepared to challenge our assumptions, regardless of how many decades we've held onto them... especially those Robotech has propagated. "One does not care to acknowledge the mistakes of one's youth." The same book illustrates considerable customization, however; at the very least, the head and chest are significantly different.

    That little detail speaks volumes, doesn't it? That's how much Michael Bay cares about the film franchise he created. That's why the only good Transformers film was directed by Travis Knight.

    No, that's part of the space retrofitting they designed for later in the series... Remember when they launched an attack against the flagship in orbit? It was never an issue in the animation.
