The History of Robotech by Toy Galaxy
tekering replied to no3Ljm's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm not sure what purpose YouTube videos like Toy Galaxy's are meant to serve. I know fans love to make 'em, but who are they intended for? As someone intimately familiar with Robotech, I found the information summarized in their "History of Robotech" videos to be mostly accurate, but a little oversimplified. Facts come fast, images appear and disappear even faster, so interest is maintained despite already knowing the story presented... but I'm obviously not who the videos are intended to educate, since there's nothing new for me. As someone largely ignorant of Voltron, I found the information summarized in their "History of Voltron" video to be confusing and nonsensical. Facts come too fast to process, images appear and disappear without context to establish their relevance, and I'm left with more questions than answers... so I'm obviously not who the video is intended to educate, since the presentation is not sufficiently informative. So if these videos fail to educate curious onlookers or entertain hardcore fans, what purpose do they have?- 72 replies

Thanks! As expected, it's obviously supposed to be "Thunder Hammer." Japanese love to use foreign languages, but can never be bothered to spell-check anything.

This looks like a rejected early design for the GBP armour. Where does this "Thunder Hummer Armor" come from, anyway?

NOVA is considering doing a limited release expansion set for The Ubiquitous in Autobot and Decepticon-themed colors, so I've been asked to produce some color samples. What do you think? -
Shoji Kawamori's Juushinki PANDORA (Spring 2018)
tekering replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wow, the abundance of CGI in the trailers really clashes with the simplistic, 2D character animation. Is this a low-budget production? Recent Gundam projects like Thunderbolt and Unicorn have done a much better job of integrating the computer animation... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qE_UMethK0 This Pandora looks like outdated crap by comparison.- 134 replies

Something original? Not much chance of that, I fear. After The Last Jedi, it's unlikely Disney will let Abrams do "something original."

MOSPEADA 1/48 LEGIOSS RESIN RE-ISSUE
tekering replied to captain america's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Resin is just another type of plastic. The parts may require more putty and sanding than your average model kit, but the same tools and modeling supplies can be applied to a resin kit. The primers, enamels, and acrylics I use for Moscato Hobby kits are the same as I use for painting Gunpla or Transformers. You may need to use metal rods to reinforce connections or stabilize the model, however, depending on the pose you choose... Resin kits are substantially heavier, and require more support than injection-mold models do. -

Neither, really. The skin tones are a perfect match, so it doesn't really matter where you cut it... so long as your cuts are in a consistent place on both figures, of course. I just cut at the base of the neck, where a neck joint usually appears on an articulated figure.

Sadly, there's little competition there. I think it's a shrewd choice, encouraging us to order Minmei because we want the Rick figure produced. Minmei would undoubtedly not sell as well if it were the other way around, nor would sales be as high if they'd bundled them together and charged nearly $100...

Solo: A Star Wars Story, in theaters May 25, 2018
tekering replied to Dobber's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Unspeakably awesome. Paul Johnson has taken the best of Macross, Gundam, and Legend of Galactic Heroes, and applied it to Star Wars. The sound mix is a little jarring, though, with voices that sound like radio transmissions (but shouldn't), voices that should sound like radio transmissions (but don't), and a slightly anachronistic reliance on new music applied to the original trilogy... but it's great music nonetheless. Edit: Wow, I see there's no end to Star Wars fan films on YouTube. Guess Lucasfilm's attitude hasn't changed, despite Disney ownership...? -
No need to search online, the so-called "recycle shops" here are full of 'em. Removing the cap simply requires some heating with a hair dryer, so the vinyl's soft enough for the glue to separate. It only leaves a small notch in the top of Minmay's head, which is easily puttied and painted over if you're so inclined... I simply haven't bothered yet. It's more CR Fever than Mikimoto, but it's still the best Minmay face I've seen on a figure.

Precisely correct! A simple custom, and the figures only cost me $5 apiece.

Hell, I'd love that playset myself. Over a meter high! -
Actually, I think this Minmay figure is far better... ...but it's not Robotech. I'm looking forward to pre-ordering Rick as well.

Well, I would argue that Titan Comics is trying to do something different, with new designs and a different story, and that's gotta be a lot harder than simply reproducing what already exists in animation... ...whereas all Comico had to do was reproduce exactly what appeared onscreen. With all the animation reference, storyboards and model sheets available to them, how did they manage to fail so badly? Thirty years later, and I'm still dumbstruck.

Still better than Comico... ...which may be the saddest qualification I've ever had to make.
