  1. The CD single actually contains both the game version and the full length versions of the song. Game version = stupid Full version = good.
  2. Gaaahh!! Here we go again... OK, I remember clearing this up about two years ago. This is NOT an animation error. It has nothing to do with Animefriend. In fact, it is a bit of an irony really, since the whole point of this was to avoid confusion, yet it produced more confusion than it solved. Ichiroh Itano noticed that in this scene, which was all drawn and ready to go, Max destroys an enemy recon vessel with one shot. Yet in the previous episode, Hikaru had gone up against the same type of ship in his big-ass Armored Valkyrie and still hadn't managed to destroy it even after his huge attack. So Itano worked his ASS off drawing craploads of missiles to fix this one implausible split-second scene and make it more believable. He figured that giving Max's valk the firepower of a GBP-1 ought to do the trick. Now that's dedication to one's work! He put in so much effort to the point of exhaustion, and you guys call his bloodwork an "animation error"... tsk!
  3. Euch!! Mylene Beat was absolute pants. You seriously enjoyed it more than Trash?? Well, fine, if that's your opinion, but in my view Beat actually was pure TRASH. Stupid story, crap art, and to top it all off, NONE OF IT MAKES ANY SENSE!! Funny how none of these earth-shattering events with the Evil Series creature and whatnot not only go totally unnoticed in D7 the anime, it just DOESN'T HAPPEN! So? So, there's a serious continuity mess-up, 'cos D7 and Beat CANNOT both be canon, even though they are supposed to be. By the way, my theory why Macross Manga not only *wouldn't* but in fact *doesn't* work, as has been proven, is that you can't have music in it. And you can't have Macross without music. Trash actually tried to solve this problem by releasing a drama CD, focusing on the "Minmay Voice 2046" contest story arc of the series. Unfortunately, I think I'm the only one who ever noticed its existence, because the only review of it, or indeed any info on it I could find was written by.. er, me.

  6. And, in turn, Tatsunoko parceled off much of the animation duties to the "lowest bidder*" in order to keep as much of the money as possible. At least, that's my opinion. *the lowest bidder being Animefriend, who probably produces sheap, yet crappy, work. IIRC- Studio Nue (or Artland) probably produced some of the best animation you'll see early in the series. Simply because they were the creators and wanted their baby to look as good as possible, although time constraints considerably dulled their attention to detail and quality later in the series. The next step down is Tatsunoko themselves. A more experienced company with skilled animators, yet lacking the heart and desire that drove Studio Nue. In the end, the simple inability of Tatsunoko's animators to correctly interpret Studio Nue's intent led to minor consistency errors, along with the expected continuity errors. Animefriend got tossed the rest of the animation, possibly after it was decided to re-lengthen the series to 36 episodes. Their quality was sub-par, and animation, proportion and simple artistic mistakes are readily evident. In the end, the original macross series is a frankenstein monster that has it's great, it's good and it's bad parts. I don't know when this whole thing about Animefriend being the crap studio began, but I would like to see the source of this information. I've tried to set the record straight several times, but I admit I don't have all the facts. To start with, Studio Nue isn't actually an animation studio, it is a creative agency which outlines projects which are then pitched to others so they can get made. In this case, Nue did all the pre-production and Tatsunoko Pro was supposed to take care of the animation. Now, it is my belief that Animefriend did its job just fine, but notice in the credits of episodes such as "Spacefold" (the first crappy-looking one), the studio credited is actually "Star Pro". No keyframe artists are credited, as I recall (possibly to avoid death-threats by MW members like myself 20 years down the line..?). I think Star Pro was just a cheap overseas studio, which took care of the outstanding bulk which couldn't have been made with the debts Tatsu and Nue were carrying. By the way, you can't even tell that Animefriend worked on DYRL, can you? But they did. Therefore, it is not Animefriend who did the ugly episodes, for the record.

  8. Wow, where did you get all the titles from? I own the CD and they are not written on it, as I mentioned before. Are those the official titles, and what is your sources?
  9. Oh, god, it's been a while since I've seen an MPC. Seriously, that thing just looks like one of the old Bandai kits I used to make. At least with those I could blame myself if I built it and it didn't look right. Eeuchhh! "Nice video, shame about the song".
  10. It's a previously-unreleased and untitled track (they all have codes, "M-12", "M-54", etc.), and you can find it on the third CD of the 1992 "Macross The Complete" box set. Don't know the track number off by heart, though, but since it's DYRL it'll be towards the last half or third of the CD.
  11. tut tut tut..... he only HALO's in the american version of the game. In the original Japanese version he enters the same way he does in all of the others, by water. The two games are similar, but have differences. American version: -Enters by parachute -Dual gunners on top of building #2 -WTF is General "Vernon Kataffy"?!?!?!? (sounds like a devious bad guy to me...) <_< -You fight an evil.......... super computer??? It puts up SUCH a hard fight... <_< -Password protected (really friggin LONG and annoying.. how many times in my youth did I copy a code down incorrectly?) Japanese version -Enters VIA water, like all other official metal gear games (so far) -Hind D helecopter on top of building #2 -Transciever screen has an image of Solid Snake -You fight Metal Gear itself, which DOES fight back.... -Save-game capable The maps of the two games are similar but a couple of areas are different (don't really care to mention them here, but if you've played both, you'll know what I mean). The one area where the american version has an advantage is the color pallete. The Japanese version is done completely in dark, drab colors, where the US version has a little more depth and detail (sprites look the same, just different colors) He parachuted into the jungle in the Gameboy Color Metal Gear game, "Ghost Babel". I am not sure where that game fits into the continuity, but it's definitely after the original game, and before "Solid" on the PS.

  14. Haven't seen it, but apparently it's a re-edit of the TV thing. Hey, is the show any good, BTW? I've only seen a couple of episodes.
  15. They'd be perfect if they had tighter joints and some die-cast. But on the whole, I thought they were cool, because no-one else was bothering to make cheap, small-scale valkyries. They're more fun than 1/60 Yamatos, at least, and the whole head-switching gimmick is a cool novelty, too. Plus they remind me of the old-school pencil sharpener valks of the 80s, aka "The Most Bootlegged Valk Toys Ever". I hate the bloody FAST pack versions, though. Arm parts have to be taped on.
  16. It probably would have survived even if it had hit the pavement! Hey, do you know what this thread has done?? Well, it's actually made me even MORE of a kid. Yeah, that's right. I was going through some boxes -- where it seems all my old stuff will PERMANENTLY remain -- as I keep moving around, and I came across a whole batch of old toys, TFs and stuff. I think I'll start another topic about the version of Prime which I found... Anyway, I got out my old 1990 Super 1S reissue, and I compared the "Fireability" of its gunpod to that of the recent reissue 1/55s. I was impressed with the 1S, but the Hikaru 1J and CF were incredible! They made fat dents in the polystyrine packaging, and when I shot at the closed door the missile ricocheted right over to the other side of the room! Now THAT'S a TOY!! Gotta love the might of the 1/55 Gunpod. Best. Toy. Evarrr.

  18. I can just see the whiteboards at Yamato - the new Max Jenius VF-1S. With vibrating kung fu action. Coming fall 2004. (BTW, thanks a lot - I'll never look at my toys in the same light again). Heck, why do you think Kawamori designed the SV-51 with those little spines around the nose cone! 'Ribbed for her pleasure' One way or another, I bet the SV-51 toys are going to be played with a lot. Graham Dude.... Stop this..! Anyway, personally, I prefer the 1/55s to the Yamatos. I like the clicking ratcheted joints and the fact that it's all one-piece and I can transform it with my feet in half a second (in theory). My VF-1J 1/55 reissue was given to me for Christmas by my girlfriend the very week it came out and you can be sure I played with it for ages after that. It was the first 1/55 I had gotten in years... The 1/60 Yamatos, while they look cool, are not really that much fun at all. You can't even move their arms properly because the chestplate gets in the way. Their heavy legs swing around all over the place, and then just fall off. And don't get me started on the bloody missiles that never stay on. I am getting my first 1/48 soon, and it better have the same level of lastability and playability as the 1/55s. There used to be an old thread on the boards called "the 1/48 funny pose thread", which I enjoyed looking at. If one can really have fun with their 1/48 that way, without it disintegrating in your hands, then I'll enjoy it. But I don't want to just put it on a shelf to look at. FUN comes first. That's what hobbies are all about.
  19. Really? Well, I never saw the DVD, but on the Japanese VHS release I don't remember seeing any of that. Anyway, I'd be happy if you're right, but where would the fansubbers have gotten that version of the film to subtitle, then? I would've thought they'd use the DVD, but there was no animation at the end. Hhhmm...

  21. First of all, I am going to assume the US and the UK DVD versions are identical. Now, I have seen the movie in three forms -- I rented it on VHS in Japan, and the end credits roll against a black background. I have also downloaded it from the internet, which I assume was a fansubbed version of the JP release, since the opening title read "Tengoku no Tobira" in Japanese and not "The Movie", in English. This version also had a black background during the end credits. However, the big-screen release which I attended in London featured some extra scenes that ran through the ending credits, so that there was at no point a black background. These included Faye losing at the races, for example. So here's my question: on the new DVD release in the West, do these scenes appear in the film?
  22. Wow, that looks awesome! I want to see more pics of the low-vis with all those stickers. To be honest... I am starting to cave in as well. I am THIS CLOSE to ordering one. The thing is, I just hapened to be in Japan for a month in August when this thing first came out and I decided not to get one, 'cause I was really busy at the time. I held it in my hands and said NO!! But now I regret it.... so I guess I've got to get one now. It'll be my first 1/48!

I never noticed the "Privacy Box" thing, though... interesting.
  24. Hey Graham. You know what would really make my day? A low-vis VF-1J. That would be perfect. Or maybe a Koenig monster. But for some reason I'm just not that excited about the actual upcoming stuff. Man... That new 19 better look REALLY good, 'cause they have had four or five years now to improve the old design...
