  1. Are we gonna get a BD of the concert or is this another one of those cruel in-person exclusives?
  2. They're cranking out those 1/48s like the mold has an expiration date or something The re-release for January is 1/72 VF-1 Super/Strike Valk http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/17-2/
  3. huh, I somehow completely missed the news of the 1/72 one. Neat.
  4. I disagree. Bandai Visual's Gundam releases are notoriously overfiltered and oversaturated. It's honestly a surprise that SDF ended up being unmolested.
  5. The color balance is fine. Nostalgia for incorrect and washed out analog video colors is silly. But the post-war arc is the best part of the original.... Either way a remake would be a giant waste of everyone's time. Both the creators' and the audiences. The original series is not only fantastic, but historically significant. Sure the animation quality is very uneven, but the high points are so high that they left a permanent mark on the entire industry and inspired an entire generation of new creators. Plus any attempt at a remake is guaranteed to be extremely cheap and lazy. Out of all the digitally made Macross projects only the 2nd Frontier movie put in an above average effort into its character animation so any prospect for future projects doesn't look good.
  6. It's probably gonna be a very long wait for Hasegawa to do any 1/72 Patlabor, if ever. HMA Garage has done both the F-16kai and the F-15kai in 1/144 last year with Kawamori's supervision, so that license might be occupied
  7. Well, Basara in a fishnet tanktop is 100% canon šŸ˜›
  8. Making a vacuum former isn't really that complicated. A lot of Japanese hobby guide books usually have a chapter where they build one out of dollar store parts. A plastic box to plug the vacuum cleaner into, a grater over it as the work surface, some basic frame to hold the plastic stock and heat that over your oven. Heck, depending on the shape of the part sometimes they don't even vacuum it. They just heat it and pull it over the "buck" From Scratch Build Manual 1: From Scratch Build Manual 2, building the box out of dollar store MDF scraps: The important part here is once you actually get around to making your vacuum former, get the "buck" done and start pulling parts off of it, THEN Hasegawa will announce the actual kit to spite you. Someone has to bite the bullet so the rest of us can get the kit šŸ˜›
  9. shop2000 is a bunch of scumbag recasters. The original kit is by Frameout Models
  10. I'd honestly rather wait a bit more for the BD. Streaming bitrate is still grossly inadequate.
  11. So definitely 2022 at the earliest for a home media release for us filthy gaijins. Ah well
  12. So I've been ignoring this for a while, but now that I check on it again, the movie still has no concrete release date? Only the nebulous "Autumn"?
  13. October announcements: 1/48 VF-1 Super/Strike Black Aces http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/65874/ Repops are 1/72 YF-19: http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/9-2/ 1/72 VF-1A Super Battroid: http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/13-2/
  14. September news, no new Macross announced, only a single re-release with the #26 Super/Strike Gerwalk
  15. The only financially viable path to go is VTubers :P
  16. Based on this screenshot from the article it looks like they got access to the raw film scan, before it was denoised and color corrected for the Japanese BD release. It's way grainer and way brighter. Though if any of that grain survives is yet to be seen, since despite what Funi says about preserving it their history of filtering it flat is a big source of hate for DBZ fans. What should be the same frame from the Japanese BD Box (there's 3 frames total with those cels, this one matched the best as far as random film artifacts went but I could be off):
  17. Tamiya started introducing lacquer bottles in late 2017, initially coming out with 15 color batches ever few months then slowing down to adding 5 colors at a time
  18. My issue with scalemates is the lack of quality control for entries. There's way, waaaay too many resin kits on there attributed to filthy scumbag recaster websites instead of to their actual manufactures/sculptors. Lack of proper credit to artist is already one of the highest crimes. Redirecting people to thieves websites is a whole order of magnitude worse.
  19. Reanimating it would be a waste of time for both the creators and the audience. It already exists. Put that production towards something actually new. Sure the quality of the series goes up and down and while the down parts may not be to your liking, the up parts are quite literally groundbreaking and historically significant to the progress of the animation industry. And really, given how Frontier and Delta went I'd expect any remake to be more outsourced than the original series was.
  20. Analog video, especially consumer grade analog video was always trash. Awful colors, awful contrast, often frame bleeding and other artifacts. There's really no reason to ever go back to something that could never properly preserve the image quality. The HD remaster for SDF is absolutely fantastic, it's the best the show has ever looked because it's the most care that was ever put into a home media release for it. If you think it reveals too much don't worry, the old analog masters were often not cropped properly instead relying on your CRT TV's own overscan to do that. So you get stuff like Roy's not fully painted head while loosing image detail everywhere else in the frame.
