  1. Yeah, Made in Abyss and Princess Principal are easily the top of the lot this season. The rest are all pretty flawed. I always need to balance my watching with some old school stuff. After watching They Were 11 (fantastic stuff), I'm doing a rewatch of Nadia of Blue Water, but now in glorious BD quality! What a beautiful show this was.
  2. I've come a bit late to this thread. But between the interesting tidbit about HG's rights to Macross possibly lapsing due to it's deal with Matsumoto in 2021 and BW making moves in Europe, I'm for the first time in years, not absolutely convinced that we'll never get some Western releases of Macross stuff.
  3. Yes, indeed "anime of the season". Sorry, I spend too much time on anime forums it seems Got my hands on an old, old classic, They Were 11. Haven't seen it in over 20 years so I cannot remember a thing other that it was real good (then). Looking forward to it.
  4. Quite an enjoyable series. Was the biggest surprise for me this season after Made in Abyss which is AOS together with Owarimonogatari.
  5. Was very pleased with this finale. After episode 5 and 6 and the all too convenient superspeed travel expedition beyond the wall mini-arc, I was afraid the writing would be subpar, but they really tightened things up. GoT is at its best not with battles and chases, but those great one on one scenes like when Tyrion faced his sister or even the conversation between Jon and Theon. 3 things though.
  6. Finally got my BD from having backed the Animeigo Kickstarter for Riding Bean. Kickass stuff! Fantastic old school detailed animation by Sonoda-san, cheesy 80's soundtrack and random nudity and ultra violence. Oh and the MC is alpha as hell. They don't make them like this anymore for sure.
  7. Again, are they lacking money? It's one of the most succesful TV series in history. But if we take your argument for gospel, I'd much rather have less fancy explosions and dragon scenes and have a better story and script. I think most people who got in GOT might feel the same way.
  8. Probably in some sort of ONA form like Koyomimonogatari.
  9. Yeah, they really messed up with the crazy pacing and travel times this season. It wouldn't have been issue if they hadn't given us the first six seasons, but they did and now we're used to a certain sense of depth, of sheer scale and mass. Why rush it with seven episodes? It's not as if they're lacking money! Anyway still enjoyed myself. I've always enjoyed the action in the north best for some reason.
  10. Yeah, if I had to be critical, they could be handled better. Too much darkness for a story that's all about different shades of grey. The OST will never be topped. The way LOGH used classical music was amazing.
  11. I think they're going to crank the bishounen angle to 11 in order to appeal to the fujoshi audience. I don't rule out that they would change the gender of a couple of characters too.
  12. There's a lot of fear from anime production committee's in messing up. That's why the majority of stuff is adaptations of manga or light novels, making sure there's an audience already out there for the product. Remakes have the same effect. The LOGH remake worries me the most. How in the name of all that is holy do you top the masterpiece that Noboru Ishiguro created?
  13. Doubt it. Vary’s has been shown to have shifting allegiances. He wants what’s best for the people and Jon for all his battle leader skills, might not be the best choice. Additionally, a lot has been made about Daenery’s subjects CHOOSING her to be their Queen. I wouldn’t be surprised if the show ends up with some kind of more progressive form of monarchy, with the current feudal system being replaced or at least, decisively weakened. Having said that, having her burn the Tarly’s for not following her seems to contradict that, not to mention OOC for her. Let’s see what consequences it will have. I can imagine Samwell Tarly being adamant that his friend take the throne after learning both that Rhaegar was Jon’s legal dad and that the Khaleesi killed her family.
  14. I was a tad surprised that he was so open about his Baratheon heritage. I called them The Expendables, but they could very well be the Inglorious Bastards. What a ragtag group.
  15. Second season of Owarimonogatari had some seriously great stuff and revelations. And another great
  16. We seemed to jump from one set piece to another. Odd pacing but it seems that will be how this will be in the final stretch. A couple of observations. observations: For all the mad skills Arya has, she still cannot match the lord of intrigue, Littlefinger himself. It seems that she might inadvertendly set into motion what will trigger the Northern lords stripping Jon of his kingship and passing to Sansa (who looks uneasy as it is). And the little reveal of Jon being a legit Targaryen was pretty sweet. Not that Samwell was paying any attention though. I wonder how long before Jon finds out though. The Expendables got all together at the end. That's some serious fighting power, although having Gendry there is a bit odd.
  17. Was on holiday at a place with a crappy wifi and could only watch the episode now. Fantastically entertaining stuff from start to finish (even though we suffered from the 'teleporting armies' phenomenon that is commonplace in this shortened series). I'm just in doubt about something from the scene in the cave. Didn't we learn in previous seasons from the Bran/3 Eyed Raven arc
  18. I'm hoping that they fix the pacing/lack of story issues that plagued the series in the film. Alas, they will not not do anything about the Knights, the most boring and substanceless antagonists in Macross history. Redo/recap film followed by new series?
  19. The problem with the triangle in Delta vis a vis Frontier, is that the characters were simply not as well fleshed out and put together. There was a certain tangible feeling to them, that Delta characters didn't have. Frontier had more solid writing and directing from top to bottom.
  20. Enjoyed the movie. Pretty unique in its delivery. No Germans, hardly any French, no generals, no politicians or big maps. It follows only the rank and file in a very microscopic way., which kind of lacked the conveying of scale of the evacuation.
  21. Not gonna read/watch the spoiled content yet. I'm enjoying this season, but must admit the instatravel that many characters are exhibiting is starting to feel a bit silly. I don't know how much of it is related to them cutting down the number of episodes.
  22. The only problem with a dub is that they'll have to hire the entire male corps of english language voice talent. Legend of the Galactic Heroes has so many characters that the name of the character gets shown onscreen for the first couple of times they appear. My big fear is that we won't get a physical release, just the Hi-Dive stream.
  23. Have the BD set wrapped in cellophane waiting for me to have the time to watch it again. Haven't seen it in over a decade. I'm afraid that Amazon might get more and more shows and simply muscle Crunchyroll out.
  24. I don't think you can expect that from a Macross production. The series in general can be pretty camp as it is and I would expect any LGBTQ characters to behave in predictably stereotypical over the top ways. I think that the intention of Kawamori and the writers this time around was precisely not making her an asskicker. Every member of that family we've seen behind the stick has been a natural (even Mylene flew well), and this time around they some emphasis on how Mirage not only isn't anything special, but probably never will be. She's a 'try hard and give it all you've got' kind of character and I think that threw a curveball to most old school fans who expected a Jenus to be a genius.
