Yes, I had noticed that too. If my guess is correct, it means the background was reused for the "finalized" Mikimoto version. I still think the "hanken" version came first and probably was used for early teaser promo purposes. Then Mikimoto completed his illustration and the "hanken" was tossed to the side. If Mikimoto ever comes to the Chicagoland area, I will bring it to him and ask him if he remembers anything about it! Yes, the Mikimoto version has definitely more of a "damsel in distress" vibe than the "woman in charge" look. But then again, that's Mikimoto's look for any female character during that period of his art career! ....not that there is anything wrong with that!

@Vifam7...good review, I look forward to the sizing comparisons to the KC VF-1S.... The tail wings do seem over-sized to me, but only when looking at it from it's profile. Can you also compare the pilots on your next post? I think this was supposed to come with a standing pilot also, no?

So I had picked up a set of Genga and Douga for a character from Macross Digital Mission VF-X and was searching the webs trying to see if I could find a good pic for her character from the game or from a screen grab of the game.....still searching for that....but what I ended up running into was the image of Sylvie from the "hanken" I picked up a few months ago and posted here....although I did not find the page where I originally encountered the Sylvie pic, I did find "the pic" and it appears, in all places, on the Digital Mission VF-X game manual page 17... .....I have searched everywhere for this pic and I cannot seem to find it used in any other media...book, poster, flyer....nothing...other than the Japanese site where I initially ran into it.....and now on the Digital Mission VF-X game manual! Here is an close up of the Sylvie pic shown above.... ....and here is a pic of the hanken.... Mystery solved! Well, actually, what is still a mystery is why was this hanken was even made? Why didn't they just use the "Mikimoto" version of the same Sylvie in the same pose on the VF-X game manual? In any case, it would seem the "VF-X" Sylvie hanken has more or less vanished from the interwebs, replaced by the now famous Mikimoto version....

According to the VFMF VF-4 Lightning book, the VF-4A should have different dimensions compared to the VF-4G...PO cancelled!

Other ideas for 1/60 mods..... Swept forward wings.... Swept back... Spiny wings???.... Standard FP adapters?...

If FextHobby can steal the VFMF VF-4 strike pack designs with no impunity...I say go for a 1/60 version of it!

Fixed! More here.... https://ourstarblazers.com/vault/megaro/ And they fill in the spaces really well on Destroids too!

correct.... ....you'll need to take it up with the original illustrators...

I'm going to say the "engrish" is part of the overall nostalgia created for this release...regardless of whether it was intentional or not!

So I went and bought one of these. I can't say much about the toy that hasn't been said already....I probably will just leave it MISB as I am sure there are zero improvments to the actual toy...not sure if they tossed in pilot figs, but that would be the only thing I would want out of the box. I have another GBP from their "stealth" set, which I believe was another SDCC exclusive...and you would not be missing anything by not owning one. The only reason I or anyone else half-way interested in these releases would be the nostalgic factor...and by that I mean the obvious nod to the old-school Takatoku boxes and box-art. For the box alone, Toynami does go all the way and executes the look flawlessly. The box basically is a "what-if" look at what could have been a Takatoku 1/100 release of their 1/55 VF-1S GBP combo set... Anyway, it is an awesome recreation of the old-school Takatoku boxes...the illustrations, the text, the fonts...right down to the textured feel of the actual box. Again...this is pure 100% nostaligia heroin shot straight into your veins. With more similar packaging announced for the rest of their tired lineup of 1/100 VF-1's....I may be hooked enough to continue buying these...I'll definitely get the Retro VF-1S Super Combo set now... I have no idea where any of my HMR GBP's are at the moment...so hopefully someone else can see if they fit into these boxes.

LOL...thinking the exact same thing....afterall, this isn't the first rodeo for some of us https://suprememecha.blogspot.com/2014/11/arcadia-160-vf-0d-phoenix.html

So looks like Toynami is re-releasing their 1/100 VFs with retro Takatoku boxes..... And Destroids apparently....think I'll wait and see what Kitz Concept does.

yep, depending on proxy used, you can get one between 250-300 USD. Hopefully that number will keep falling as we get closer to release day.
-
Yeah....still after proxy fees and shipping you are still looking at 250-300 usd....but still better than than what they spiked to immediately after the PO madness night

Never liked the Lion Voltron.....I have always preferred the Vehicle Voltron, but more so for the sum of its parts rather than the whole....I like those funky vehicles and always kept the old toy separated rather than combined... This was the first non-Macross toy I PO'd in a while....hope it's worth it

What do your Fanky books say about the Asuka II?
