  1. This will be the one "video game adaption that does not suck" movie.
  2. Saw it with the GF and I think it's a great medieval fantasy movie and doesn't pretend to be more than that. Vivid visuals, great FX (esp. the Troll) & costumes, loved Ravenna's castle, very good soundtrack. Steward and Hemsworth were the weakest links in an otherwise OK cast, and the elves' realm scenes had a bit much sugar coating, but Theron was perfect in her evil queen role. Even the dwarves worked well this time.
  3. What the American concept designers of today lack in robotic designs, their fellows from the 70s spaceship department had in abundance. The Buck Rogers Starfighter, Cylon Basestars, X-Wings (Basically everything from the drawing boards of Johnson/McQuarry) and the Syd Mead stuff are timeless classics and excellent examples how far you can get with basic shapes. I don't think that "form follows function" or an engineering background produce better designs. Is the Metal Gear Rex a functional design? Not really; but on an artistic level it produces a maximum of expression from a well-balanced composition of basic, blocky, mechanical elements.
  4. FYI the space cucumber (from the original maker) is on sale right now: http://stores.ebay.com/Scale-Solutions-Models
  5. Perfect sky + sun last weekend; some unprocessed shots from my compact.
  6. Looks like Bandai will re-release a bunch of other more or less vintage Macross kits in June. I spotted the 1/72 Battroids, 1/100 Destroids, Stormattacker Macross and Mac7 Valks at Hobbysearch listings.
  7. In ten years we'll laugh about what recent SF present us as the next technological level. Except that we still won't have flying cars then.
  8. They have some cool kits in their production line. Check out the Garland. http://mrd-3d.com/mp_a.html http://mrd-3d.com/anime/garand.html
  9. That is actually quite profane: I put the model on it's stand on a sheet of black cardboard on my kitchen table. Light its natural, indirect light from the nearby window. Adjusted contrast and blacked out the stand and background in Photoshop. I shot the model underexposed to get a good depth in the shadows, then emphasized the highlights back with graduation curves. Zoic must have done something similar in their postproduction. The metal effect comes from the Kosutte powder, but it's quite subtle and you have to turn the model against the light source to catch the specular highlights. The camera is a point-and-shoot Canon Powershot 220 HS.
  10. It looks like the Raptor rejects human lifeforms onboard. Somebody call Lieutenant Fukai.
  11. I hope those old kits won't kill them, Revell was not really successful beyond the die hard fan base with their re-release of the Monogram kits. - Chris, the kit was airbrushed with black paint in alle the recessed areas, followed by a base coat with dark sea grey. The armored areas then received a coat of heavily thinned sky grey + white (1:1) sprayed in an irregular cloudy pattern, occasionally highlighting individual panels. The red paint was dulled with grey, decals misted with the grey/white mix. I had to hand paint the colonial emblem, since the decal was unusable. Finally, the ribbed parts were metalized with Kosutte powder. I also put in some windows with a toothpick: Don't go crazy on mods & aftermarket parts, put your energy in the paintjob, and you'll have a great model.
  12. Thanks for the cheers, guys. You see, Zoic could have saved them a lot of the effects budget if they had just provided a proper 10" plastic model instead of that expensive CGI stuff.
  13. Thanks @all for the appreciation! Is it true that Moebius is planning a line of kits from the old series?
  14. You will see her in tank + panties in the end, unfortunately she has morphed into a space jockey by then.
  15. My Moebius Galactica just left the workbench dry dock. I posted some photos here
  16. Lemme revive this thread with pics of my recently finished Moebius Models kit - Ladies & Gentlemen, meet The Bucket. Not overly large, but a great display piece. Painted with Tamiya acrylics and metalized with Kosutte Powder. Now let's frak some Cylons...
  17. Let's hope it was a demonstration of their "active stealth" device.
  18. This is "Ridley Scott intense", not "Joss Whedon intense". - I just had the idea that the Prometheus crashing into the alien ship is actually David's work, not Janek's. You know, crew & ship are expendable. Especially when the corporate representative has jumped the ship.
