  1. Funny how Robotech fans always say things like "well with Robotech you get much more episodes to enjoy cause its edited from three shows into one giant show" Yet they never bring up that its been this single three part series for 25 years while Big West has made 3 original seires of their own from scratch in the same time span. Or that the overal episode count is: Robotech: 1 Big Series or 3 separate (however you): 85 episodes Macross: 3 Series 36+49+25 = 110 Episodes Yeah, Macross never borrowed from American comics and Vice Versa... http://fortresstakes.files.wordpress.com/2...w=497&h=288
  2. Serious business like that is for the UN Spacey's Judge Advocate General's Corps to decide. "Following in his sempai's footsteps as a Naval aviator, Lieutenant Commander Hikaru Ichijo was shot down by friendly fire while flying his transforming tomcat in combat over sea. Diagnosed with night blindness and visons of flying bicycles Ichijo was transferred to the UN Spacey Judge Advocate General's Corps, which investigates, defends, and prosecutes the law of sea and space. There with fellow JAG lawyer misa Hayase he fights in and out of the courtroom with the same daring and tenacity that Robotech fans want to believe made him a top gun in the air."
  3. Yeah Sivil couldn't possible freak anyone out with her nipples that look just like Medusa's vector snakes, the green spirita sucking jewel on her forehead, or those shark fangs of hers. Unlike Ariel she is also complelty original and was in no way ripped off from tales of Succubuses, DBZ charaters, or Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo. Indeed. Robotech mecha are just simply better then anything Kawamori made in Macross. Kawamori may print "US Army" on the feet of all the Macross mecha he wants, but he can never make a truthful claim that the mecha was "made in the USA." Since Robotech team made Robotech in America though the Robotech mechas were truly "made in the USA." That is why Robotech mecha are simply so much better then their identical Japanese counterparts, "US Army" mecha belong in an American show should be piloted by real American heros like Rick Hunter.
  4. Only cause he was too attracted to the hot alien chicks.
  5. Well, I always thought Gloval was black in Robotech, even after learning that he was an Italian in the OSM. And no, I never said he was the only black male in Robotech period, I said he was the only black male that wasn't attached to the Grant name.
  6. Well they say no man is an island. As for Robotech charaters that have no further relations I can only think of Captain Henry Global. He is apparently the only black male in Robotech that isn't a Grand and its nearly impossible to argue any family tie to her after choosing to save Lisa. Whats more since Macross Frontier already had the SDF-4 Gloval, everyone is occupied with Rick's SDF-3, and since nothing new ever really happens with Robotech anyway I doubt there will be a SDF-4 Global anytime soon. I wonder though. After Gloval landed the SDF-1 and Macross city was set up in Alaska did he ever see his Russia from his house?
  7. I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the Alice Holiday episode. Come to think of it though didn't Ozma Lee or some other charater in Frontier say something like "Sheryl is just another Alice Holiday"? I could just be imgaing it though so I'll have to take another look. How dead? Dead as in you can't boot it up or dead as in its mechanically inoperable? Personally I have yet to see a computer virus on its own physically damage a harddrive. You should be able to slip it into a hardrive enclosure and hook it via USB up to your new computer and transfer files that way. Since your laptop is old I am guessing that it's likely pre-2003 and has a PATA hard drive and not SATA. Either way its easy to find cheap Hard drive enclosures that support PATA and SATA connections. On the other hand the PATA only HD enclosures are even cheaper because everyone is trying to sell out yesterday's technology. As for partitions they won't do any good when you can't boot the computer. If you can hook up the hard drive though an HD enclosure then you shouldn't have a problem accessing either partition and all your old data. Also wanted to add: Frack that green monitor. I wasn't able to edit it out with Gimp . Still I got a new avatar that is much smexy then James Cameron's blue furies will ever be .
  8. The OVA was like a 3 part B-movie with mostly action and only glimpses of the classic Gatchaman story. I liked a few of the changes they made such as implying the source of Dr. Nambu's amazing technology and the reason for the bird theme, but other changes like turning Sosai X into CG eyeball were unforgivable. As the English dub. Urban Vision dubbed it with Harmony Gold's backing. Its got a few familar voices from Robotech who did give good performances: Lynn Kyle was Ken Kimmy was Jun Ben Dixon was Ryu/Rocky Rolf Emerson was Dr. Nambu. Just like Robotech they angelized the names and even hard Subbed over subtitles written in Japanese in one scene: Just like BOTP though the Urban Vision/HG English dub tried to make it more Star Wars like: - Bird Missles became Proton Missles - Galactor ships sound just like Tie Fighters - My favorite though is Berg Katse's (Solaris in the English dub) electric whip was made to sound exactly like a light saber even though its nothing more then a fancy taser. Also wanted to add that Imagi has this same whip in their concept art only it seems to actually cause stuff to explode: Personally I believe that it could help Gatchaman's case. Battle of the Planets and G-Force are still liked by many Gatchaman fans and they are more accustomed I guess to seeing very different reinterpretations of the franchise. It also helps that the original Gatchaman creators were heavily inspired by American Comic books, which is something Imagi has seemed to taken advantage of by hiring Paul Dinni of Batman TAS fame to pen the script, making the Gatchaman franchise very well suited to Western Reinterpration. EDIT: First two images resized to take up alot less forum space.
  9. Yeah, the Anime Network's biggest flaw was that you had to pay extra to subscribe to the channel. If ADV had made Anime Network a 24 hour Toonami channel available to users for free solely through commerical sponsershio then I believe it would have been much more successful. As a subscription based anime channel though it was out of reach for the many young fans who didn't have access to credit cards and of course wouldn't ask their parents to subscribe to the Anime channel so that they can watch anime when they should be doing homework.
  10. Kissplayer sounds like episode 1 of SD Gundam where the unconsious hero gundam is magically reactivated with a kiss, from a male mecha otaku of all people. Macross wasn't the only victim by any means: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main...asteTranslation
  11. Figures, nearly every male main charater in anime seems to turn out to be a lolicon. When ADV was around I believed they showed Robotech and/or Macross on their subscription based Anime Network channel. If WB or some one else every does bother re-releasing Robotech on DVD it will probably be done as a tie in with the RLAM.
  12. Yup, Kawamori designed Battle Convey who was renamed Optimus Prime. Was Battle Convey nearly as iconic and popular in Japan as he was in the States though? I mean I am sure he was popular with Daiclone fans, but he was competing with alot more super robots then just "Voltron" over there in Japan.
  13. Optimus Prime a Sheryl fanboy? And here I thought he was just your typical asexual robot that only listened to Stan Bush. You sure it wasn't Rick Hunter who said that while he was piloting Jet Fire?
  14. 1. Optimus Prime would never condone the exploitiation of underage musicians for child porn. 2. Optimus's first spoken line ever was "Unless a new supply of energy is found, nobody is going to win this war." He needs Robotech's magic biofuel not Macross's extinct alien culture. 3. No transformers has ever been shown killing a being that was flesh and blood in anything that didn't have Michael Bay's name on it, and all of them learned to aim from Stormtrooper academy and are only accurate with harmless laser beams. Againist any Macross foes besides the nonliving Ghosts and Sharon Apple Box, the Transformers would just waste our time with a laser show.
  15. Who would buy that ancient hand-drawn piece of child-porn trash when you can watch the modern RSC with all its hot legally aged babes with Brazilian Korean butt lifts immersed in the best Cinematic CG environment pre-Avatar for free on Hulu... ehh... I mean 1. They don't have the rights to DYRL 2. Its Macross, Robotech is HG's #1 concern anime wise. 2. American Retail Chains, TV Networks, Hulu, Movie theaters, etc only deal with animated movies that carry a 5.1 sound track in English and HG would never pour money into dubbing Macross DYRL cause: a) Creating Robotech: DYRL would be a waste of money that would only appeal to the small number of Robotech fans and it would tarnish the credibility of Robotech's "Macross-Less" sequels and reimagining for fans unaware of the legal situation. b) ADV is out of business and other anime companies are going to be heistant about following their footsteps of dubbing and distrubiting classic anime titles. The fact that Macross DYRL is often cited as the most popeular fansub of all time doesn't help its case either.
  16. Thanks. This pretty much sums up my weekend. One day I am posting links to NSFW images of Joe the Condor to the facebook profile to a girl I barely know. Then the next day I am posting images of Mylene's butt, for Pete's Sake! Dam. Do use Firefox with "No Script" and update your "hosts" file to block connections to known malware by chance?
  17. http://io9.com/5429572/british-court-storm...belong-to-lucas The British Court of Appeals considered Storm Trooper designs "industrial designs" rather then art and thus ruled their copyright void after 15 years by British Law. I am sure Robotech fans will be looking at as something for Harmony Gold to potentially exploit for using the Macross mecha designs as both the US and Japan have this 15 year clause with Industrial Designs. Though I wouldn't be surpised if this ruling is overturned in the future as Lucas plans to go all the way to the Surpreme Court and he will probably bring some arguement about it is art and how this ruling goes againist international conventions of copyright.
  18. Yeah, it does have some resemblance, but for everything that resembles the M7 Love triangle the X-men triangle has something that is a bit different . For instance when would you ever see Basara and Mylene like this? Come to think of it though Love triangle or not the X-men mythos with its heros and villains painted in shades of grey, conflicts between man and mutant, and the rivalry/friendship dynamics with Professor Xavier and Magneto is the closets thing in American comics to Kawamori's ideology that I know of. If I ever get a chance to meet Kawamori I quess I'll have to ask him if he is an X-men fan. Dam that annoying green moniter, but don't worry I will use my "gimping" skillz to edit it out
  19. It is actually an interesting take, that I never thought of until I saw your comment. In fact I was about to make a sarcastic remark that the Macross crew was just fans of the music of "Wolverine the Musical" until I realized that X-men the animated Series debuted in Japan in the early 90s as well. I have also found some interesting screen grabs of X-men and Macross 7. And of course the X-Men LOVE TRIANGLE! I am sure I will find more X-men/Macross7 comparions as we get further along in the series. You know who I feel was missing out on beach attire? Flower Girl! It would have been nice to see her in a white swimsuit instead of that white victoria outfit that she always wears. Someone should warn Macross parents that if they name their boys "Michael" they will be destined to grow into a big blonde perverted dork with glasses. In Michael's defense we all know the real reason he was checking her out was to give the viewers fan service. It is unfortunate that he is stuck as the Mayor's aide. With his humougus muscular built he could have easily landed a job as a boucner and be surrounded with hot girls in night clubs, until he goes crazy from hearing the same techno remix of ""Planet Dance" over and over that is...
  20. Hollywood movies are a whole another leaque from Anime movies due to the corprate nature of Hollywood. Anime is profitable with such small turn outs because they don't have the overpriced A-list celebrities that charge millions, expensive set building, or the huge logistical costs that come with filming Hollywood films. With Anime the major production costs are just staff and art supplies.
  21. Have you seen the remastered verison of Plus or only the Manga release? I always had this feeling that Plus and Seven were really really old because the video quality on the original rips were absoultely horrible. Then I saw the remastered verisons and it was like watching a whole new anime for the first time because the difference in video quality was so striking. So yeah, if you have only seen the horrible manga release of Macross Plus then its going to look like a really faded old anime compared to the video quality of the crisp clear Macross 7 remastered release.
  22. I remember seeing an image of Nora on somewhere that turned out to actually be a photoshoped image of "the boss" from Metal Gear Solid 3 as she reveals her scar shaped like a snake. Which was really clever considering their strikingly similiar appearances and nearly identical scars.
  23. Better yet who do I have to pay to see Comicbook Superheros/Macross crossover? I want to see Tony Stark turn a Valkyrie into a Zentradi sized Iron man suit, the Black Hawks fly Valyries with Skull Squadron, Lady Black Hawk give Sheryl flying lessons, Gambit take Gamlin to a bar, and of course have Aquaman telecommunicate with Space Whales and Vajra for aid while Superman flys around the earth to travel back in time to save Louis from boarding the Megaroad to interview Minmay and to prevent Robotech from ever ripping off his movie theme song.
  24. I wouldn't be surprised if the Macross 7 crew were paying a small homage to the X-men animated series which was dubbed and broadcasted in Japan. The series debutted in October 1992 in the USA and by the time M7 rolled out two years later it is very likely that Japanese viewers had already seen the first season of X-men and were familar with Wolverine's hairdo and the Xmen named Gambit. Interesting. That puts a whole new spin on things. I had always thought that M+ was completely done and already completely aired when they made M7.
  25. "PROTO-CULT-URE shou me!" Indeed. Macross has hot mecha and chicks, Robotech does not. Well HG has the international distribution rights to distribute Macross outside of Japanese territories and China has not been a territority of Japan since WWII...
